Can you believe it? The
competition season has
approached quickly yet
again! Make sure your
school is prepared for this
year’s competitions by
reorganizing and
reenergizing your
program. You may be
feeling stressed but stay
positive. We will help you
feel ready to face the
tasks at hand. The ICCA
Board of Directors will be
happy to assist with any
questions you may have.
Just ASK!
You can also check out
the ICCA website for any
additional guidance and
information. It may be able
to answer your question
first. (www.cheericca.org)
And remember you can
lean on other coaches
with experience as well.
We are all in this together.
We are all looking forward
to this year and hope you
are too. Here are just a
few quick tips about
starting a new competition
season out right. Set
goals! Having motivation
to set the bar is never a
bad thing but just keep in
mind the balance of your
team’s ability with their
potentiality. You know
your team the best, so be
safe AND smart. Promote
teamwork! The easiest
way for any team to
succeed is staying in
sync. A team that plays
together wins together.
Stay positive!
Cheerleading is all about
the SPIRIT. When times
are getting tough
remember to look on the
bright side. Your team
depends on you to guide
them. The more
enthusiastic you are, the
more responsive they will
be. And of course, have
fun! Don’t forget the
reason why you are
involved with
cheerleading. It’s about
the athletes and your
devotion and love for the
sport.
So here we go: the
season is about to start…

All-State
This program promotes the attainment of
higher
educational
goals
for
cheerleaders who have made positive
contributions to their school through
involvement in cheerleading, other
extracurricular activities and community
programs. ICCA provides scholarships
between $13,000 - $15,000 each year to
seniors who apply and are selected.
Senior cheerleaders can apply to be a
part of the All-State team. The
combined, amazing talents of different
schools athletes are showcased at the
IBCA All-Star game at IL Wesleyan
University in Bloomington in June. This
all-expense paid weekend includes an
awards luncheon and lots of free gifts.
It is an unforgettable experience!

ICCA and IHSA… Together
Let's face it- planning your competitive
season takes careful consideration and
time. You want what's best for your
team in getting them the experience and
exposure they deserve. The season
only has so many competitions
available and you want to make the
most of each year. It's come to our
attention that when making these
important decisions, some AD's and
coaches have gotten the false
impression that the ICCA and IHSA
either have conflicting goals or
conflicting schedules and, as a result,
they feel like they need to choose one
or the other. This is definitely not the
case! In fact, the ICCA works hard to
accommodate the IHSA's schedule and
to offer opportunities that can expand
knowledge and experience for coaches
and athletes alike.
When the IHSA Cheer State Series was
developed, IHSA and ICCA worked
together to develop a championship.
The IHSA staff administers the
tournament and interprets and applies
the rules set by the membership. The
IHSA’s goal is to run quality
championships, and the IHSA realizes
that the input of experts in the field is
necessary to conduct their numerous
state finals. Hence, the IHSA works in
collaboration with ICCA leadership
much like the relationship with other
sport/activity coaches associations.
Although the relationship is often
misunderstood, IHSA and ICCA are
cooperative organizations. Dual
membership is not only possible, but
encouraged. ICCA provides
opportunities for teams to gain

Creating Opportunities
• IHSA and ICCA have always
sustained a beneficial relationship for
secondary athletics.
• IHSA is the organization to which
member high schools in Illinois belong,
their respective principals acting as the
voting members.
• ICCA is a supportive coaches
association. The organization provides
resources to IHSA in the form of rule
interpreters, clinicians, liaisons, etc.
ICCA also extends important services
to coaches such as training,
conferences and competitions.
• IHSA and ICCA collaborations create
opportunities for coaches and athletes.
experience, and these opportunities
align with IHSA guidelines and annual
ICCA’s mission is to offer education
to coaches and their teams in all
aspects of cheerleading, from
instruction to competition.
Membership in the ICCA brings
experience in:
• COACHING EDUCATION &
MENTORING
• SAFETY
• SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
• RECOGNITION OF ATHLETIC &
SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENTS
• COMPETITION IHSA & NFHS rules
followed
schedules. In this way, ICCA is more
than a resource for sharing expertise.
It’s the grassroots of highly competitive
programs.

the ICCA website!

Though reasons for entering the IHSA
state series or ICCA competitions vary,
each IHSA member school can benefit
from the opportunities these mutually
supportive organizations produce. This
way, every high school can match its
competitive goals to its interscholastic
spirit program.
