DECEMBER 28, 2014
Letter From The Pastor
Dear Parishioners,
During the holy Christmas octave we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
The family is where progress in the Christian life, the way of ordinary holiness, finds its raw material. Whether
we choose to respond to grace - and develop the eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to accept the hidden
invitations to learn to love beneath the surface of that daily living - is all wrapped up in the mystery of human
freedom. Our choices not only affect the world around us, they make us become the people we are.
This upcoming year is a very special one for us as Catholics. The 8th World Meeting of Families will
take place in Philadelphia, September 22-27 and Pope Francis is expected to attend. The theme of the
gathering is, “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive.” Families from around the world will come
together for prayer, speakers, celebrations, and activities. The 10 months prior to the World Meeting of
Families have been assigned 10 themes based the 10 chapters of the Preparatory Catechesis Love is Our
Mission: The Family Fully Alive. The theme for December 2014 has been: The Mission of Love - God works
through us. We have a mission. We are in the world for a purpose — to receive God’s love and to show God’s
love to others. God seeks to heal a broken universe. He asks us to be his witnesses and helpers in that work.
Look for information in the new year about opportunities for catechesis that will allow us to grow in our love
and appreciation of the family that is at the heart of who we are as a people and community.
Thank you to parishioners Minda Cameron, Shirley Chaban, Anita Farney, Karen Fernandez-Valentine,
Fulvia Fiorani, Ann Marie Kirker, Dolores Korolevich, Patrick Lonegan, Norma Shively and Louise Wagner
who have helped to decorate the Church and Conesa Center for Christmas. We appreciate their good work to
honor our Lord.
May the Holy Family of Nazareth keep you and your families in love – Father Kovanis

CATECHISM CORNER
Article 437: To the shepherds, the angel
announced the birth of Jesus as the Messiah
promised to Israel: "To you is born this day in the
city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."32
From the beginning he was "the one whom the
Father consecrated and sent into the world",
conceived as "holy" in Mary's virginal womb.33
God called Joseph to "take Mary as your wife, for
that which is conceived in her is of the Holy
Spirit", so that Jesus, "who is called Christ",
should be born of Joseph's spouse into the
messianic lineage of David.34
32 Lk 2:11.
33 Jn 10:36; cf. Lk 1:35.
34 Mt 1:20; cf. 1:16; Rom 1:1; 2 Tim 2:8; Rev 22:16.

Many religions make contrasting claims about Jesus. Even
different Christian denominations can’t decide what they
believe. So how do we know what’s true? In this talk, Ken
Yasinski gets the heart of the issue by looking at what Jesus
said about Himself and the impact this has on us.
Tuesday Movie

Blessing of a Christmas Manger or Nativity Scene
God of every nation and people,
from the very beginning of creation
you have made manifest your love:
when our need for a Savior was
great you sent your Son to be born
of the Virgin Mary.
To our lives he brings joy and peace,
justice, mercy, and love.
Lord, bless all who look upon this manger;
may it remind us of the humble birth of
Jesus, and raise our thoughts to him,
who is God-with-us and Savior of all,
and who lives and reigns forever and ever.
R/.Amen.
