ECITB/CCNSG Safety Passport Scheme
The ECITB (Engineering Construction Industry Training
Board) facilitate the CCNSG (Client Contractor National
Safety Group) Safety Passport training programmes. The
aim of the CCNSG Safety Passport Scheme is to ensure a
basic knowledge of health and safety for all site personnel
to enable them, after appropriate site induction, to work on
site more safely with lower risk to themselves and others.
RRC are working in partnership with British Safety Services
to provide the following CCNSG Safety Passport Training.

CCNSG Passport Refresher
The ECITB/ CCNSG Passport to Safety is
a standardised health and safety
training scheme for contractors. The
Contractor Safety Training Scheme has
been adopted by BP, Corus, Dow
Corning, Elf, Esso, Gulf, ICI, Lindsey Oil,
National Power, Powergen, Shell,
Texaco and many other major industrial
companies.
The ECTIB/CCNSG Safety Passport
Renewal Course is a one day refresher
course for those who have already
passed the CCNSG Safety Passport
Course.
Old passports must be brought to the
course and handed over, these will then
be destroyed and the details passed on
to the ECITB register.

Course Content
The CCNSG Passport to Safety course covers the following topics:
 Session 1: Safe Behaviour at Work
Unsafe behaviours, Behaviour modification
 Session 2: Safe Place of Work
Hazard & Risk, Control of Risk, Permit to Work Systems,
Confined Spaces, Site Vehicles, Fire
 Session 3: Safe Systems of Work
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER)
1998, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations
(LOLER) 1998, Electricity, Energy and Hazard isolation, Manual
Handling
 Session 4: Safety Problems and Safe Solutions
Hand-Arm Vibration ,Noise, Reporting Accidents, First Aid,
Hazardous substances, Asbestos, the Environment, PPE and
Welfare Provision
The CCNG Safety Passport Refresher course interactively reviews
the following ten modules:
 Health and Safety Law, including Permits-To-Work
 Safe Working Practices
 Safe Access and Egress
 Accidents and First-Aid Procedures
 Fire Precautions and Procedures
 COSHH and Personal Protective Equipment
 Manual Handling
 Noise
 Working with Cranes and Heavy Equipment
 Excavation
Assessment
All candidates must achieve a minimum 80% in the multiple-choice
assessment.
Entry Requirements
The Course has to be taken within three months of the Safety
passport expiry date. If not taken within the specified time the full
two day CCNSG Safety Passport Course will have to be retaken.
Assessment
The assessment comprises 5 multi-choice questions per module
(50 in total) and candidates must achieve a minimum 80% pass
mark.

CCNSG Leading a Team Safely
The CCNSG Leading a Team Safely
course (Supervisor’s Passport) is available to
those who have successfully completed the 2day CCNSG Passport to Safety Course.
The overall objectives of the programme are
to equip and highlight some basic
‘management skills’ for the working
supervisor. This will assist them in controlling
all aspects of their work (including health and
safety). The course has been created to be
both informative and interactive, so assisting delegates to appreciate
that what they do does have an impact on health and safety within their
area of responsibility.
Course Content
The CCNSG Leading a Team Safely course covers seven modules:
 Introduction to course
 Roles and responsibilities
 Planning and time management
 Communication
 Behavioural aspects of health and safety
 Control of risk and accident prevention
 Risk assessment and hazard
Assessment
During the course there are four auditable exercises, plus an end
of course 10 question multiple-choice assessment. Candidates
must achieve a minimum 80% in order to pass.

Passports
Successful candidates will be issued with a
temporary passport in the form of a credit cardsized certificate which is valid for six weeks. The
ECITB (Engineering Construction Industry Training
Board) will issue a Permanent Passport within three
weeks, which will be valid for three years from the
course end date.
Details of the passport will be entered into the
database maintained by the ECITB.
