Year-End Banquet and Awards
The 2014 Banquet was held on December 8th at
O’Charley’s. A total of 36 members and one youth
attended. Following dinner, award certificates were
presented by Dick Cassel. Thanks to everyone who
made this a festive occasion.

Jeannette Finkelstein – We Miss You
Jeannette Finkelstein, a
long-time member of
WLA, passed away at
7 PM on November 26th at
Spartanburg Medical
Center. She was a dear
friend to many WLA
Upstate members.
Recently, Jane Hughston
spent most of her day with Jeannette, taking her
to a doctor’s appointment and then, at her
request, having a Happy Meal at McDonald’s
and then buying bologna for her as she really
wanted a bologna sandwich. Jeannette was
prone to say, it’s important to have a good
attitude. It has carried me through some of the
most difficult times of my life.
Jeannette was born to Samuel Davidson and Tina
Beinstock Davidson on May 17, 1919, in
Columbia and graduated from Greenville High
School in 1937. She married Jack Phillip
Finkelstein who was born in New York City on
November 5, 1917. Jack and Jeannette designed
and built their house in Spartanburg in 1947.
They had four children, Charles Finkelstein
(WLA Upstate member), Sam Finkelstein of
Canton, OH, Harriette Firestone of Myrtle Beach
and Ann Finkelstein who passed in February
2009. There are six grandchildren including
Jessica Wright (WLA Upstate member), and
eight great-grandchildren.
Samuel Davidson, Jeanne’s father, was a Russian
immigrant who came to the Upstate in 1903. As
a traveling salesman, he saved enough money to
start Davidson’s Department Store in Chesnee in
March 1928. When he passed in 1954, Jack and
Jeannette took over the ownership of the store.
Following Jack’s death in September 19, 1957,
Jeannette managed the store every day until her
retirement in August 2009. She was an active
member of the Spartan Chapter of the American
Business Women's Association and Temple
B’nai Israel, Spartanburg.
Jeannette was buried on December 2nd next to
her husband, Jack, and daughter, Ann, in Beth
Israel Cemetery, Greenville. See also:
