Hands-On Workshop
Learn the creative sewing process as you create an artfully

class. You will receive a full refund if

You know the basics of using a sewing
machine and you've assembled a basic
garment. Now take it a step further and learn
how to measure a pattern to your
measurements. This class will also focus on
making darts, putting in a sleeve, finishing a
neck line and the use of interfacing.

sleeve? You've tried the "two rows of
gathering stitches", "easing in", and "letting

gathered. In this class you will learn and
practice a method for perfectly setting in a
smooth sleeve. Plus you'll leave with the
confidence to go home and finish that special

Pleather jackets are a great basic for any
wardrobe. Unfortunately, most lengths end at
the waist and when you sit down you get a
cold draft in the back! This jacket is the
perfect answer to that problem. The length
ends at the lower hip. This jacket also has the
added feature of deep pockets. Learn some
tips on sewing with pleather and how to make
a self-lined pocket. This jacket has no lining,
just facings so you can assemble it quickly.

and how to thread a hand needle without tying

Hand Sewing Techniques *
We love the convenience of our modern
machines, but some things just have to be
done by hand! We'll practice some basic
stitches that can be used to beautifully handfinish bindings, facings and hems. Learn how
to neatly apply snaps and buttons, and how to
mark placement. Time permitting, instructor
will demonstrate additional stitches as
requested.
This is a continuing class for intermediate to
advanced lycra sewers. Emphasis is on knits
and stretch fabric. Pre-requisite is Basics in

How To Measure Yourself Flat **
S e r g e r J e w e l r y* *
Why do we take measurements "in the round"
when our patterns are printed flat? How do we
use our measurements to alter a flat pattern?
The answer is simple: we measure ourselves
flat! In this class you will learn a method for
taking precise body measurements that can
be directly compared to your flat pattern and
used to alter it. You will also see how to take
two critical measurements that will change the
way you fit.
This is a class to think "outside the box". If you
think sergers are just for trimming and
finishing edges, think again! In this class we
will use the cover stitch and serger stitches to
create a necklace and bracelet.

construct a useful case to hold your serging
supplies. You will learn to insert a zipper
using the cording foot, attach bias binding,

Beginning Quilting Block*
Have you ever been interested in learning
how to quilt, but don't want to invest too much
as you begin? This is the perfect class for
you! In each session we will make one quilt
block. The best part is the cutting of the fabric
pieces is already done for you. The fabric is
included in the class fee. Sign up for the first
class, and you will be hooked for the rest!
Learn whether to wash or not wash the fabric,
the importance of the grain lines, the correct
way to use a rotary cutter, how to accomplish
the perfect seam , when to press and when

Learn some good, basic quilting techniques

The Piccadilly Quilt**
Use 2 1/2 inch strips and 5 inch squares or
pick out your favorite fabric for this lovely quilt
top. You can incorporate embroidery in some
of the blocks if you wish or use some large
print fabric for a play on color. Learn how to
play with color for the 3-D drama. This is a
simple sewing style but gives very impressive
look that you will use over and over.

Make a stunning quilt by playing with colors.
In this class you will learn about color and
values; the sewing is easy. Bring your scraps
or purchase a few fat quarters. We can do
some scrap trading in class to get lots of
interesting value changes. You will make a
few 'slabs' of color (12" blocks) in the class,
and Mary-Jeanine will give you some tips on
efficient sewing and color arranging for the
blocks and for the quilt.

Finish That Quilt!*
Are you ready to complete the last steps in
finishing your quilt? Learn the different ways
to baste the layers of batting, quilt top and
backing. Hand quilt or machine quilt? Both
ways will be taught. How to choose a quilting
pattern that best compliments the quilt top.
You will also learn how to cut the binding for a
bias binding and straight binding. Learn the
trick to mitered corners in the binding. Receive
a free batting sample booklet that explains the

Modern Quilt Guild, was founded in March
2010. We enjoy monthly meetings, member
