Factory
For the past 30 years, the masterminds at Mervin have been hand-building
exceptional snowboards in Washington. Long before it was cool to care, Mervin
co-founders Mike Olson and Pete Saari knew they wanted to make their factory
a place that supported healthy lives and a healthy environment. To further
that agenda, the “EnvironMENTAL Division” headed by Norm Nelson and Mike
Olson is always seeking better materials and ways to improve production
processes for a healthier workplace that’s easy on Mother Nature. With Mervin’s
sustainability practices constantly raising the bar, no other snowboard factory
in the world compares.
1. Plastic you can recycle
Silkscreened base material can’t be recycled so we
use a sublimation process that allows us to properly
recycle all of our excess top and base material. For
a healthier factory environment, we use watercleansed grinding systems to minimize airborne
particulate levels. Since recycling was discontinued
residentially, our recycle bins are available to local
residents and employees for all types of daily
plastics, various papers, aluminum and glass. All
together we recycle over seven tons per month.

Mervin doesn’t waste odd sized wood — our finger
joiner can use what would normally be throwaway
core pieces. These cores are actually stronger at
the joint than regular wood, resulting in almost no
waste wood and poppy, powerful boards.
New Heart Cores come from a long history of
responsible practices, and a whole lot of heart. We
use Fast-Growing Farmed Wood; for years, Mervin
has devotedly used renewable, fast-growing forest
wood, locally sourced where possible, and shaped
in our very own core shop. A soil and compost
operation is conveniently located right next door
to Mervin, which is where all our saw dust ends up
so it can be recycled as soil additive. Scrap wood
is donated as kindling.
Mike and Norm run a Lib Tech biodiesel co-op
with a filling station next to the factory. This fuel
heats our factory. Plus, the factory’s electricity is
“green” power specially contracted from the local
PUD (Public Utility District).

Mervin’s ExperiMENTAL Division Leader Mike
Olson loves beans! When he’s not eating them,
he’s turning them into bio-plastic topsheets. So
boards feature an innovative, earth-friendly bioplastic top skin made from beans that features the
highest strength-to-weight ratio of any topsheet
in the industry.
We use the safest possible epoxy resin systems with
minimal VOCs (volatile organic compounds), as well
as soy-based elastomer on our sidewalls instead of
toxic ABS. And forget harmful solvents — we clean
house with citrus-based solvents instead.
Instead of silkscreening, we sublimate our graphics,
which eliminates the need for the cancer causing,
toxic automotive-lacquer gloss coats you see on
many shiny snowboard top sheets. Inks used for
printing are water based (not solvent based).

XC2 Banana Traction, xc2 btx
A new formula of C2 with a shorter Banana (rocker) between the bindings and extended, more aggressive, camber on
the tip and tail. This puts more camber under foot which increases tip/tail pressure. Extra solid pressure that gives
you more power for bigger pop, driving high speed turns or confidence bombing icy slopes, or a fresh field of powder.
Pickle Banana Traction, pbtx
Intuitive snowboarding is balance through asymmetry. Our sideways snowboard stance gives us an asymmetry that
requires us to move differently when initiating toeside and heelside turns. Pickled Banana Traction has deeper sidecut
on the heel edge, which initiates a little sooner and easier than the toeside, balancing out the lack of dexerity our heels
have compared to our toes and foward bending knees. The third of the core closest to the heel edge is softer wood for a
smoother transition over to that edge. The only difference you’ll notice is snowboarding feels easier.
C2 Banana Traction, c2 btx
Award winning technology, patented C2 Banana Traction is a blend of the best snowboard technology on the planet. The
main ingredients are Banana Technology, reverse camber only between the bindings, with a healthy dose of C2 Power
Banana, camber on the tip and tail, combined with Magne-Traction, serrated edges. It’s the perfect cocktail of progressive
technology that allows riders to shred any terrain with complete confidence. Made especially for strong riders, the C2 BTX
is poppy, smooth, and delivers end-to-end stability and predictability at high speeds. The result is a versatile snowboard
for confident riders that destroys hardpack and ice, floats in powder, and plays in the park.
EC2 Banana Traction, ec2 btx
The best of two worlds come together with EC2. We started with Banana (reverse camber) between the bindings, added
elliptical camber on the tip and tail, and mixed in the magic ingredient, Magne-Traction (serrated edges). Banana adds
more pop and quick edge-to-edge transfer. Elliptical camber is sloped like angel wings (not radial), providing not too
much or too little, but just the right amount of camber for grip and flow. It’s the ultimate blend for all-mountain riding.

Banana-Traction Plus adds a hint of elliptical camber on the tip and tail to the free riding feel of BTX, which is Banana

Proving itself year after year in magazine board tests, Patented Banana Traction Technology replaces camber with
reverse camber between the feet, and no camber from the feet out. The board’s rockered mid-section is a natural turning
arc that flattens out under the rider’s weight, providing full nose-to-tail edge contact. The flex pattern includes a slightly
stiffer nose and tail for stable landings, increased pop, and float in deep powder. Magne-Traction integrates with Banana
Technology to boost edge hold in all conditions. Together, Banana and Magne-Traction (Banana Traction) put control
where it should be, directly underfoot. The result? A fun and playful board that slays powder, handles the hardpack like
it’s on cruise control, works rails and boxes with ease, and maintains liveliness run after run.

This technology combines a traditional radial sidecut with reverse camber between the bindings and no camber on
the tip and tail. This is great technology for beginner and intermediate riders who are linking turns at slower speeds.

Asymmetric Twin (Pickle Tech)
A twin which rides the same forward or switch, but the third of the core closest to the heel edge is softer flexing wood
with a deeper sidecut. It balances out your body’s natural asymmetry.
HEEL
true Twin
The nose and tail are symmetrical, with equal length and width from the center of the board. The board rides equally
amazing both regular and switch, and excels all over the mountain and park.
directional Twin
Between the contact points the board measures a true twin, but the nose above the contact point is slightly higher and
longer than the tail. This allows the board to float in powder or choppy snow and still feel consistent when riding switch.
LN: Less Narrow Waist Widths
Slightly wider waist widths than your average women’s board, for girls who want or need a little more foot room in
a board designed for a woman’s shape and core flex. It’s also great for any freestylers looking for Cadillac turns and
stompability. Available only in Ally BTX sizes 151 and 155.

The core is the most defining factor of a snowboard. Its shape, type of
wood, and contour determine how the board will ride and respond to varying
conditions. When designing snowboards for women, lighter is always better
because it’s easier to maneuver, and makes the board more agile. We looked
for a variety of the lighest wood cores we could find and came up with three
different cores that made the grade.

laminated to five internal wood layers for totally bombproof sidewalls.

A little softer, kinder wood. Includes FSC certified wood. Light, fast growing, farmed wood
with long fibers for pop.

Get a grip with the edge hold and control that you deserve. Like a serrated breadknife,
Magne-Traction’s wavy edges cut into the snow more effectively than a straight edge. The
wavy Magne-Traction edges enable the board to grip and hold better in all conditions. Get
next level confidence and agility on ice and hard pack, as well as any situation where you
need to trust your edges — icy slopes, cat tracks, traverses, superpipe walls, kicker runways,
and early morning crust. For those who can’t get enough of the park, Magne-Traction has a
freestyle advantage — you can de-tune your edges for jibbing or rails and still have superior
edge hold all over the mountain.

cored aerospace aluminum stamped and formed for
mind reading response and unmatched lightweight. This
baseplate enables us to make one of the lightest ever.
HIGHBACKS
RX SA1 — Hyper cored highback is in ergonomic alignment
with your lower leg for increased power and control.
Highback release lever is cleverly shifted to the side
for quick reach around access. Full EVA padding wraps
over top of highback down to heel pocket for maximum
comfort. Lateral adjust for fine tuning heel side support.
