Trash and Recycling Collection
General Requirements
Specifically excluded from
trash collection: Recyclables,
Yard Waste, Construction and
Demolition, Bulky Waste,
Electronics, Mercury Bearing Wast
e
& Hazardous Waste.
Only single to four family dwellings are eligible for curbside collection
services.
All trash and recycling must be placed on the tree belt by 7am of the
scheduled collection day.
Trash must be bagged and tied in containers, no loose trash.
Containers should not be loaded in excess of 40lbs.
Recyclables must be placed along the curbside in Blue Recycling Bins or
in a container clearly marked as Recycling.
Residents who experience problems with their collection service
should contact the contracted hauler,
Republic Services at (413) 557-6700.
YARD WASTE
COLLECTION
Yard Waste collections will be during the months of April through
November as indicated on the collection schedule.
Yard waste must be placed in, 30 gallon, 2-ply kraft paper bags, not
weighing more than 40lbs.
Biodegradable plastic bags are NOT accepted.
Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, weeds, garden material,
shrub trimmings and brush or limbs up to 3” in diameter.
Limbs up to 3” in diameter must be tied in bundles, not greater than 3
feet in length, no more than 40lbs.

Bulk items will be collected
during the months of January,
March, June, July, August and
December, by appointment
only.
A maximum of 5 items per collection and 2 televisions per year
are allowed. Appointments must
be made in advance of the collection day. When scheduling your
collection, be sure to write down
your confirmation number.
Any refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or dehumidifier to be
collected must have a certificate
affixed to it, by a qualified technician, that all refrigerant has been
removed.
What will be collected as a
bulky item? Household items
such as furniture, mattresses, bed
frames and box springs, 3’ rolled
up carpeting weighing no more
than 40 lbs per roll and large
home appliances.
What will NOT be collected as a
bulky item? Construction and
demolition debris such as sheet
rock, pressure treated wood, insulation, windows, doors, shingles, siding, concrete, etc. automobile parts, hot tubs and oil
tanks. (list not all inclusive)

YARD WASTE DROP OFF GUIDELINES
Agawam residents may drop off residential Yard Waste at
Bondis Island off Route 5 in Agawam.
Delivery Hours: Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm
Sat 7am-noon
Procedure:
 Obtain yard waste passes at the Department of Public
Works at 1000 Suffield Street.
 A drivers license verifying Agawam residency and a vehicle registration are required at the time of pass pick up.
Acceptable yard waste: leaves, grass clippings, weeds,
shrubs, brush and limbs up to 3” in diameter.
Not Acceptable: tree stumps, shrubs, brush and limbs
over 3” in diameter. (additional charge will apply)
No dump trucks, commercial or business vehicles will be
allowed to enter the yard waste facility with an Agawam
Yard Waste Pass.
COMMUNITY SHREDDING EVENT
Valley Green Shredding will provide on-site mobile shredding
to securely and confidentially shred residential documents for
free.

Residents are asked to limit their confidential documents to
five standard size boxes. All three-ring binders and binder
clips should be removed. Paper clips, staples, spiral bound
notebooks are all acceptable.
Documents such as old bank statements, legal documents,
medical records, tax records, receipts, invoices, utility bills,
canceled checks and statements containing credit card numbers, birth dates, signatures, passwords and pin numbers are
all items that should be shredded to avoid identity theft. For

many dangers when not properly handled. Look for products with labels that
say caustic, toxic, corrosive, poison, flammable, warning, danger or caution.
