Friends of Music, I am completing a decade as the artistic leader of the Toledo Symphony and share with you my genuine pride in our orchestra. Our musicians share my commitment to performing music of great beauty and lasting importance, all with the highest standards. Our 71st season continues to showcase the wonderful Toledo Symphony along with an unprecedented array of extraordinary guest musicians from all over the world. Every one of these award-winning artists, many at the threshold of major careers, will be appearing for the first time in Toledo. There is, however one returning artist — the sensational violinist Joshua Bell — who comes for one special concert on January 31, 2015, the 25th anniversary of his debut with the Toledo Symphony. Next season continues our commitment to the music of our own time with Toledo premieres of music by 21st century composers including works by Plau, Kirchner, Gulda and a Toledo Symphony commission by Ann Arbor-based composer Evan Chambers. The Mozart series features first performances of piano concertos by his contemporary Andrea Luchesi, and we also complete our decade long survey of all the symphonies of Anton Bruckner presenting his 1st symphony at the beautiful Rosary Cathedral.
