The American Legion Department of Florida offers scholarship monies for: General Scholarship, Eagle Scout of the Year, Junior Shooting Sports and High School Oratorical Contest. DEADLINES: WEBSITE: DECEMBER 1 – Oratorical Contest; JANUARY 1 – Junior Shooting Sports; MARCH 1 – All others. http://www.floridalegion.org/fal-programs-main/scholarships **GE-REGAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education. Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate study only, and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program. To be eligible for this award, applicants must: demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship; • demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent); • demonstrate financial need; • be citizens of the United States of America; • be high school seniors attending high school in the United States and graduating in winter 2013 or spring 2014; and • plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2014-2015 academic year. We provide Gates Millennium Scholars with personal and professional development through our leadership programs along with academic support throughout their college career. OLLIE EDMUNDS DISTINGUISHED SCHOLARSHIP - STETSON UNIVIVERSITY Students must have strong character and integrity along with the potential to be outstanding leaders. Candidates are chosen based on a combination of their intellectual excellence, personality, and leadership. Candidates should have active co-curricular involvement, participation in athletics or physical fitness activities, discipline, integrity, character, strong written and verbal communication skills, creativity, and the potential to be well-rounded leaders and contributors in the Stetson University community. SCHOLARSHIP Arts for Life! annually awards $2,000 scholarships to 25 graduating high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in visual art, music, dance, drama or creative writing. Students who are graduating from a public or private school or a home education program in Florida in the Spring of 2014 are eligible to apply. Students must submit a completed application, a brief essay explaining "How the arts have positively influenced their life" and a portfolio of work in visual art, music, dance, drama or creative writing. College Matching Program - In addition to the program's $2,000 cash award, winners will be automatically eligible to receive a matching in-kind scholarship worth a minimum $1,000 if they attend one of the participating Florida institutions for higher education: Broward College, College of Central Florida, Flagler College, Florida College, Florida Atlantic University, Florida Institute of Technology, Jacksonville University, Nova Southeastern University, Stetson University, and University of Florida. Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale. 2. Complete all the required admissions applications material and be accepted for the 2012-2013 academic year at one of the following institutions: Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Kettering University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo or Wentworth Institute of Technology. 3. Complete the National Co-op Scholarship Program Application including a typed one-page essay (500words) describing why you have chosen to pursue a college cooperative education program. A $1000 check will be awarded to nine high school seniors in public, private or parochial schools who excel in science. One winner will be selected from each of the following counties: Orange, Osceola, Lake, Marion, Brevard, Volusia, Flagler, Seminole and Sumter. A $1,000 check will be presented at the News 13 Studios by a News 13 meteorologist. The scholarship is granted as part of News 13’s commitment to educating children about science and weather. On average, residents save $7,000-$10,000 per year. Applications are accepted year-round, but priority deadlines are March 1st for Fall and October 1st for Spring. This is a one time (non-renewable) award of $2,000.00 and will be awarded to a worthy student who is interested in getting a start in life through higher education. This award is specifically for a student who wishes to pursue their education at a Florida University, Fine Arts School, Community College, or Vo-Tech. Two winners, selected by a committee of child custody attorneys, will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to be used toward their first year of college.
