Paul Anka
tells his
amazing tale
JANE WOLLMAN RUSOFF
NYT SYNDICATE
E
ARLY rock ‘n’ roll rocketed a
cadre of swoon-worthy teen
idols to fame in the 1950s, but
none has stayed aloft longer
than singer/songwriter Paul
Anka.
The hits that Anka wrote and re-corded, including Diana (1957), You Are
My Destiny (1958), Lonely Boy (1959)
and Puppy Love’ (1960), put him on
the map. My Way (1969), the stirring
anthem he penned for Frank Sinatra,
ensured that he stayed there.
Anka has released 124 albums in
English, German, Italian and Spanish,
selling more than 42 million records
all told. He has recorded three songs
that hit No 1 on the Billboard charts:
Diana, Lonely Boy and (You’re) Having
My Baby (1974). Citing his total of 33
top-40 songs, Billboard has named him
one of the 25 most successful recording
artists of all time.
At 71 Anka still does about 100 live
performances each year, spending four
to five months touring in China, Europe
and South America as well as in the
United States and his native Canada. It
has been decades, though, since he had a
top-40 hit in the United States.
“Am I as needy of that as I was years
ago? No,’’ Anka says, speaking by tele-phone from his Los Angeles home. “Do I
need it to survive? No. I’m very realistic.
There is no music business as I knew it.’’
Once upon a time, though, Anka
was at the centre of the music business
and, indeed, the whole entertainment
world. His new autobiography, My Way
(St Martin’s Press, 2013), written with
David Dalton, is packed with revela-tions about Angie Dickinson, Michael
Jackson, John F Kennedy, Elvis Presley,
Sinatra and more.
He looks back, for example, to his
romance with the late Annette Funicello,
at the time a crazed Anka fan who was
fresh from Mouseketeer duty and soon
to star in Beach Party (1963) and a
string of similar films.
“She was ... a very, very passionate
girl,’’ Anka writes. “Having an affair with
Annette was an absolute fantasy come
true.’’
Nonetheless, it was a relationship
without a future.
“I loved Annette,’’ Anka says, “but I
wasn’t ready to get married. Ultimately
she got it that that wasn’t going to hap-pen.’’
Besides, Anka had other things to
worry about. He had established himself
as both a canny songwriter and a power-ful singer when suddenly the “British
invasion’’ hit. Musical tastes changed
virtually overnight and knocked him off
the radio. Many of his peers saw their
careers wiped out in a flash.
“I wasn’t supposed to last with what I
was up against,’’ Anka says. “I’ve abso-lutely led two lives.’’
The secret to his success was, in part,
that he had already launched a counterinvasion. As early as his first hit, Diana,
the 16-year-old Canadian of Lebanese
Christian descent was already touring
Algeria, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Eng-land, France, Japan, Spain and Sweden.
“While the British invaded the
United States,’’ he says, “I was moving
into their territory. I went to Europe
and established the foreign marketplace,
which has been very supportive of me to
this day.’’
Anka, whose new CD, Duets, features
team-ups with Celine Dion, Michael
Jackson and Willie Nelson, among other
top artistes, attributes his songs’ inter-national appeal to strong melodies and
“easy to understand’’ lyrics.
“People can relate,’’ he says. “And I
write in a minor key, which is very, very
emotional.’’
Also helping him keep his head
above water during Beatlemania’s high
tide was his second career as an author
of songs for other singers. The artistes
for whom he has written include Buddy
Holly, Tom Jones, Sinatra and Sonny
and Cher, as well as Michael Jackson
– he co-wrote Jackson’s posthumous
No 1 hit, This Is It (2009). That sus-tained him in the mid-1960s when, as he
writes, he was “performing but living on
my past.’’

His new autobiography,
My Way, written with David
Dalton, is packed with
revelations about Angie
Dickinson, Michael Jackson,
John F Kennedy, Elvis Presley,
Sinatra and more
“If I weren’t a writer, I don’t think I would have
lasted,’’ he says. “Frankly, if I weren’t a writer, I don’t
think I would have started.’’
Anka was only 15 when he wrote Diana, initially as a
poem about a neighbourhood girl four years his senior
on whom he had a serious crush. He was already a mu-sician, however, having formed a singing group called
the Bobbysoxers at 13, and it was natural for him to set
his own poem to music.
It didn’t win him the girl, but a half-century career
is a good consolation price. Anka had the song with him
when he journeyed to New York and, without even an
appointment, walked into ABC-Paramount and walked
out with a recording contract.
Diana zoomed to No 1 in England, then again in
the United States, hitting the top of the charts a month
after Anka’s 16th birthday. One triumph followed
another: At 18 he became the youngest act to play New
York’s fabled Copacabana nightclub and the youngest to
headline in Las Vegas, when Sin City was in its heyday.
Playing Vegas was a thrill for Anka, because he was
fascinated by the storied Rat Pack, led by Frank Sinatra,
Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
“Silly little teenage songs got me started,’’ he says.
“They were emotional and had a lot of heart. But that
didn’t mean that other dynamics of my personality
weren’t alive.’’
Though he never became an official member, the
brash young singer struck up a friendship with the Rat
Pack, who seemed to be amused by his eagerness and
let him hang with them.
“I was intrigued by that world,’’ Anka recalls. “I
wanted to be like those guys. I wanted to have the cool
they had. But I never became Sinatra cool or Dean Mar-tin cool. I was this kid who tried to be cool, dressing like
them and emulating their behaviour. But not their bad
behaviour – smoking, drinking, womanising – because
(my manager) was always watching me.
“I was making money (for him),’’ Anka says. “Money
was driving everything.’’
In his first two years in show business, the young
Canadian chalked up five top-20 hits. At 21 he was Os-car-nominated for writing the title song for The Longest
Day (1962), a film in which he also acted. The same
year he composed the theme music for The Tonight
Show.
It didn’t last, though. Beatlemania rocked the music
world, and by 1967 even Sinatra’s career was on the
wane.
“Frank was going to quit because, in his mind, it was
over for him,’’ Anka recalls. “The Rat Pack was fall--
Having My Baby.
Released right after abortion was legalised in the
United States and at the height of the feminist move-ment, the song generated controversy. Feminists saw it
as deliberately retrograde: The National Organisation
for Women “honoured’’ Anka with a “Keep Her in Her
Place’’ award.
“I wrote that as a love song to my wife after our
fifth daughter was born and when I noticed that a lot
of women were having children out of wedlock,’’ Anka
says. “But I wasn’t ready to hand out pamphlets ex-plaining what my songs were about every time I wrote
one.
“It’s interesting, though,’’ he says. “That one went to
No 1 after all the flak heated up. It took on a new life.’’
He may specialise in romantic love songs, but Anka
has been divorced twice. His first marriage, to former
model Anne de Zogheb, ended in 2001 after 39 years
and five daughters. Six years later he wed his personal
trainer, Anna Abery, a union that lasted only two years
before a divorce that he calls “really scary’’ in his book.
“The marriage was horrible,’’ the singer/songwriter
says somberly.
It did, however, produce his first son, Ethan, who is
now 7 and often accompanies his father on out-of-town
gigs.
“My son is a treasure in my life,’’ Anka says simply.
“He’s everything to me. My life is centered around
him.’’

ing apart, he was fed up. He was playing with electric
trains. But he needed to work.’’
Inspired by Sinatra’s adamant refusal to tailor his
act to the new wave in music, Anka wrote My Way for
his buddy. It became a huge hit, revitalised the careers
of both men and was Sinatra’s theme song for the rest
of his life.
She’s a Lady (1971), which he wrote for Tom Jones,
proved that Anka was back to stay, surging to No 2
on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Three years later Anka
himself scored his first No 1 hit in 15 years with (You’re)

AP
M
OVIE fans slipped into Ob-livion as the Tom Cruise
sci-fi thriller led Holly-wood with a $38.2 million
debut, according to studio
estimates on Sunday.
That domestic haul comes on top of
$33.7 million Oblivion added in overseas
markets, where the film began rolling out
a week earlier. Oblivion raised its over-seas total to $112 million and its world-wide receipts to $150.2 million.
Though many people on Friday were
caught up in coverage of the manhunt
for the suspect in the Boston Marathon
explosions, it seems to have had little
effect on how the film fared.
Oblivion took in $13.3 million on
opening day on Friday and $14.9 million
on Saturday. That 12 percent increase is
not unusual for big new releases, which
typically do better business on Saturday
than Friday.
While Boston was on lockdown much
of Friday, that market only accounts for
about 1 percent of the nationwide box
office, said Nikki Rocco, head of distri-bution for Universal, which released
Oblivion. The manhunt mainly affected
matinee business, with theatres reopen-ing on Friday night, when Dzhokhar
Tsarnaev was taken into custody.
“Once the guy was arrested, I think
people got back into their regular rou-tine,” Rocco said.
The previous weekend’s top film, the
Warner Bros baseball drama 42, held
up well, slipping to second-place with
$18 million in its second weekend. The
Jackie Robinson biography starring
Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford
raised its domestic total to $54.1 million
and is on its way to the $100 million
mark, said Dan Fellman, Warner’s head
of distribution.
Overseas, Paramount’s G.I. Joe: Re-taliation got a lift with $40 million, most
of it coming from a $33 million debut
in China. The action sequel has topped
$200 million internationally and $300
million worldwide.
Oblivion came in a bit higher than
industry expectations. But despite its
strong opening, Hollywood’s 2013
revenue funk continued, with overall
domestic receipts at $109 million, down
19.4 percent from the same weekend last
year, according to box-office tracker Hol-lywood.com.
A year ago, two new romances - the
comedy Think Like a Man and the dra-ma The Lucky One - combined for $56
million that weekend, while the block-buster The Hunger Games remained
strong with nearly $15 million.
“Even Tom Cruise was unable to
beat the strength of two really strong
newcomers that were devoid of stars
anywhere near in his league,” said Hol-lywood.com analyst Paul Dergarabedian.
“That tells you the difference between
last year and this year. Even when we
have a good weekend like this in 2013,
generally these weekends, they pale by
Tom Cruise in the film Oblivion.
comparison to what happened last year.”
Domestic revenues in 2013 total
$2.76 billion, down 11.2 percent from
where business was at last year, when
Hollywood took in record cash.
Business slumped a bit in summer
2012 with some high-profile duds, so
studios have a shot at gaining ground
over last year with this season’s upcom-ing blockbusters, which include Iron
Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, The
Hangover Part III and Man of Steel.
Still, the gap almost certainly will
continue to rise in the early part of the
summer season.
Disney’s Marvel Studios sequel Iron
Man 3 is expected to open with a whop-ping $125 million-plus domestically over
the first weekend in May, Dergarabedian
said. But that would fall far short of the
record-breaking $207.4 million debut for
the Marvel ensemble smash The Aveng-ers over the same weekend last year.
Even so, Cruise’s Oblivion provides a
solid action lead-in to summer. The film
stars Cruise as a repairman fixing ma-chines in the wastelands of Earth after
an alien attack.
Despite upheavals and odd behav-iour in Cruise’s personal life in the last
six or seven years, he remains one of
Hollywood’s surest box-office draws.
Universal reported that in exit polls, fans
cited Cruise as the No 1 reason they saw
the film.
“He’s a global star,” Rocco said.
“People love Tom Cruise. If you put him
in the right vehicle, they love him even
better.”
In narrower release, Rob Zombie’s
latest horror tale The Lords of Salem
flopped with $622,000 in 355 theatres,
for a dismal average of $1,752 a cinema.
That compared to an average of $10,085
in 3,783 theatres for Oblivion.
The low-budget hip-hop drama Filly
Brown opened solidly with $1.4 million
in 188 theatres, for an average of $7,250.
The film stars Gina Rodriguez and the
late Jenni Rivera in the story of a young
talent with a shot at stardom on Los
Angeles’ hip-hop scene.

‘Threatening’ Witherspoon apologises after arrest
AP
R
EESE Witherspoon is “deeply embar--
rassed” about what she said to police
officers after she and her husband were
arrested during a traffic stop in Atlanta.
The Oscar-winning actress released a
statement recently apologising for her behav-iour to police that began when her husband,
Hollywood agent Jim Toth, was arrested early
on Friday for driving under the influence of
alcohol.
“Do you know my name?” Witherspoon is
quoted as saying in a state trooper’s report.
She also said: “You’re about to find out who I
am” and “You’re about to be on national news,”
according to the report.
“I clearly had one drink too many and I am
deeply embarrassed about the things I said,”
Witherspoon said. “It was definitely a scary
situation and I was frightened for my husband,
but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the
officer who was just doing his job. The words
I used that night definitely do not reflect who
I am. I have nothing but respect for the police
and I’m very sorry for my behaviour.”
Witherspoon said she can’t comment fur-ther “out of respect” for the pending case, and

her publicist, Meredith O’Sullivan Wasson,
offered no other details.
The 37-year-old actress was arrested on
a municipal charge of disorderly conduct
early on Friday after a state trooper said she
wouldn’t stay in the car while Toth was given
a field sobriety test. She was released from jail
after the Friday morning arrest and was in
New York on Sunday night for the premiere
of her new film, Mud. She posed for cameras
on the red carpet but did not stop to talk to
reporters.
The trooper noticed the car driven by her
husband wasn’t staying in its lane early Fri-day morning, so he initiated a traffic stop. He
reported that Toth had droopy eyelids, watery,
bloodshot eyes, and his breath smelled strong-ly of alcohol.
Toth told the trooper he’d had a drink,
which Witherspoon said was consumed at a
restaurant two hours before the traffic stop, the
trooper writes.
Before the field sobriety test began, With-erspoon got out of the car, was told to get
back in and obeyed, the report said. After the
Walk the Line star got out a second time, the
trooper said he warned her that she would be
arrested if she left the car again.
As the test continued, “Mrs Witherspoon
began to hang out the window and say that she
did not believe that I was a real police officer. I
told Mrs Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be
quiet,” Trooper First Class J Pyland writes.
Toth, 42, was then placed under arrest. He
was charged with driving under the influence
and failure to maintain the lane.
At that point, the report says,
Witherspoon got out and asked the trooper
what was going on. After being told to
return to the car, she “stated that she was
a US Citizen and that she was allowed to
stand on American ground,’” the report
states.
The trooper then arrested Witherspoon.

Michael Buble uses Spanish when

Jessica Simpson wants unborn son to

ACTOR-SONGWRITER Michael
Buble says when he fights with his
wife Luisana in public, he speaks
Spanish so that nobody can
understand.
“Two languages are very
handy, femalefirst.co.uk quoted
Buble as saying.
Although Buble might think
he’s learning enough to get by,
he admitted his wife isn’t quite as
impressed with his progress.
“Luisana and I didn’t share a
language when we first met. She
didn’t speak much English, and I
Michael Buble
didn’t speak much Spanish. But
I’ve been learning it and I’m getting pretty good - although
Lu says I still sound like a caveman,” he added.
The Haven’t Met You Yet singer won’t be disagreeing with
her anytime soon, conceding she is definitely the boss in
their relationship. “Luisana is the alpha in our marriage, so
I’ve learned it’s easier to just do as she says,” he said.
ACTRESS Jessica Simpson, who is expecting her second
child, a boy, hopes he will be a “mamma’s boy”.
The actress hopes to develop a special
bond with her yet-to-be-born son, as her
daughter Maxwell, 11 months, is closer to
her father Eric Johnson, reports contact-music.com.
“Maxwell is definitely a daddy’s
girl. If he’s in the room she doesn’t
want anyone else to hold her. So
I hope my son will be a mamma’s
boy,” she said.
Simpson, 32, had put on
weight when she was pregnant
with her first child, so she is more
cautious this time.
“With my first pregnancy, I really
let go. I felt like I deserved to eat
whatever I wanted. Now I’m work-ing out three times a week. I’ve only
gained half of what I did during my
first pregnancy,” she said.

ACTRESS Rebecca Hall says she
dropped out of Cambridge University
because she wanted to take charge
of her life and gain some pride for
taking a different road.
The Iron Man 3 star was studying
English literature at the university in
Britain, but she left the course before
the final year, because she felt she
had achieved all she hoped to.
“I had reached a fork in the road
Rebecca Hall
where I thought everything I had
wanted to do at university had
been done - make great friends and do a lot of theatre and
work out what kind of grown-up I wanted to be, and I’d
got to that point,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted Hall as saying.
“Basically I thought, if I can make a choice like this
which bucks the trend, and is different and now, I know
that I’ll be able to do it for the rest of my life. I’ll feel proud
of myself taking a different road,” said Hall.
It was a risk for the 30-year-old, but she is glad she took
as it gave her a sense of purpose, making her feel authen-tic and bold for taking the chance.

Sanjay Gupta feels it is unjustified

that Kangana Ranaut, missing so

thriller.
Reportedly, the actress is unhappy with
the way she has been sidelined to favour
Priyanka Chopra and Sunny Leone, both of
whom have much-publicised item numbers
in the film.
When asked, Gupta got upset. “I also
read this morning. You all are the media
and you all have a very, very strong weapon
in your hand, which could be a source,
insider, friend, somebody from there... the
person is never named.”
“So, it’s very convenient to cook up a
story and then say, insider tells us the story,
source tells us this. Name the source,” he
added.
He was speaking at a press conference in
Mumbai.
While Kangana is the female lead, Priya-nka has an item number called Babli Bad-maash and Sunny Leone too will be seen
shaking a leg to O Laila. The third item
number Ala Re Manya has singer Sophie

The film also features actors Anil Ka-poor, Tusshar Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee and

Rumour mills are abuzz with the stories
of rift between Ekta Kapoor, the co-produc-er of Shootout at Wadala, and Kangana.
But Gupta dismissed it. “Not at all and

On the contrary, Gupta is extremely
proud of Kangana’s work in the crime

“As a matter of fact, I am extremely
proud (of Kangana), I am very happy with

She has worked very hard in the film,” said

In Shootout at Wadala, Kangana’s look
has been de-glamourised.
“For the film, she had to unlearn a lot. I
don’t think and I haven’t seen any of Kanga-na’s films, where she is completely de-glam-ourised,” said Gupta.

N a departure from the original musi--

an erotic-thriller component, Direc-tor-producer Mahesh Bhatt is slotting the
upcoming sequel Aashiqui 2 as a family

“After the successful run of Aashiqui
in 1991 and in following years due
to repeat runs at theatres and
on TV and the music ruling
the chart for years, we must
make a departure from the

Aashiqui 2 needed the

“Aashiqui was a cult

“Aashiqui 2 ushers in the glorious
golden period of cinema... the phase
of films like Abhimaan. It rekindles
the feel of the ‘70s and ‘80s -- which
celebrated middle class values -- and
seeks to bring back that kind of cin-ema. But it’s set in the contemporary

On the reason behind

When asked how and from
where he entered this field of tell-ing fiction and fantasies, Akhtar
said that he never took films
seriously but when he had to do a

would be best suited for him.
“I really didn’t think about
films that seriously when I was in
school or college. I really enjoyed
watching movies but I never ever
thought that I would be making
them or writing them. But, you do
have fantasies to be in a certain
film or to be a part of it when you
are a fan.” he said
“But that was really not an
extend that how far it went and
its really strange because of the
threat almost to be thrown out of

it felt like a very natural thing to
me, since that’s my interest that
I should do something in films,”

FILMMAKER Dibakar Banerjee says
his segment in Bombay Talkies, about

“My daughter is an influence on
my film. To a daughter, a father can do
no wrong. So you have to be this hero,
otherwise you fail your child. It is a

who is married to Richa Puranesh, said.

ENVIRONMENT
Wild weather can send
greenhouse gases spiraling
NYT SYNDICATE
C
LIMATE change has a discon-certing tendency to amplify
itself through feedback effects.
Melting sea ice exposes dark
water, allowing the ocean
to soak up more heat. Arctic warming
speeds the release of carbon dioxide
from permafrost. And, as research-ers discussed at a meeting last week
in Seefeld, Austria, climate extremes
– heatwaves, droughts and storms – can
hamper plant growth, weakening a ma-jor buffer against the rise of CO2 in the
atmosphere.
“Heatwaves and droughts will very
likely become more frequent in a warmer
climate, and ecosystems will somehow
respond,” says Philippe Ciais, a carboncycle researcher at the Laboratory of
Climate and Environmental Sciences in
Gif-sur-Yvette, France. “More storms
will add an extra dimension to the prob-lem.”
The meeting was organised by the
CARBO-Extreme project, a 3.3-million
euro ($4.5-million) collaboration of 27
groups from 12countries, funded by the
European Union. Attendees showed off
an array of tools for uncovering how
extreme events affect terrestrial carbon
cycles, including numerical models, CO2
flux measurements and field experi-ments. The challenge now, says Ciais, is
to predict how the frequency of climate
extremes will change, and to model the
intricate physiological responses – some
of which are poorly understood – of
plants and ecosystems.
Land plants create a huge carbon
“sink” as they suck CO2 out of the air to
build leaves, wood and roots. The sink
varies from year to year, but on average
it soaks up one-quarter of the annual
CO2 emissions from the burning of fos-sil fuels. And events such as droughts,
wildfires and storms are likely to “cause
a pronounced decline” in the sink, says
Markus Reichstein, a carbon-cycle
scientist at the Max Planck Institute of
Biogeochemistry in Jena, Germany, who
coordinates CARBO-Extreme.
Climate anomalies have already had a
detectable impact. Satellite observations
and data from CO2 measurement towers
suggest that extreme events reduce plant
productivity by an average of 4 percent
in southern Europe and 1 percent in
northern Europe, says Reichstein. That
lowers annual carbon uptake by 150mil
The most extreme
events can turn
forests and grass-lands from carbon
sinks to sources. In
2003, a heat wave
in Europe led to the
release of more CO2
than normal
lion tons – equivalent to more than 15
percent of Europe’s annual man-made
CO2 emissions. The most extreme events
can turn forests and grasslands from
carbon sinks to sources. In 2003 alone, a
record-breaking heat wave in Europe led
to the release of more CO2 than is nor-mally locked up over four years.
So far, scientists have detected no
increase in extreme weather events. But
they expect one. Reindert Haarsma, a
climatologist at the Royal Netherlands
Meteorological Institute in De Bilt,
forecasts a surge in hurricane-strength
storms such as 1999’s Lothar, which
raged northeastward from the Bay of
Biscay, slashing forest biomass by 16
million tons. By the end of this century,
model studies suggest, storms similar
to Lothar and another that caused huge
damage in France in 2009 will become
25times more common in Europe. The
probability of major heatwaves in Eu-rope is expected to increase up to tenfold
by mid-century.
Lack of water makes plants less capa-ble of fending off pathogens and insects.
After the 2003 heatwave, caterpillars
devastated Mediterranean oak forests
near Montpellier in France. Research-ers have presumed that this triggered a
large carbon release, but such responses
are hard to predict. Severe droughts in
2005 and 2010 in the Amazon basin
seem to have released much less CO2
than expected, says Ciais.“In some eco-systems, small disturbances can have a
large impact,” he adds. “In others, even
significant anomalies seem to cause only
little harm.”
CARBO-Extreme teams have con-ducted field experiments that simulated
drought in different climates and vegeta-tion types, from Atlantic pine forests to
alpine meadows. Unpublished results
show that in grasslands, drought mark-edly slowed photosynthesis, which stores
carbon in leaves, roots and soil. It had a
smaller effect on soil respiration, which
releases carbon, so the net result was a
decline in carbon uptake.
The experiments also showed that
plants and soils keep a “memory” of dis-turbances, says Michael Bahn, an ecolo-gist at the University of Innsbruck in
Austria who oversees a grassland experi-ment. He simulated a series of droughts,
and found that later ones had a larger
effect on net carbon release. Existing
biosphere models do not capture such
effects, which Bahn thinks might be due
to changes in soil microbes.
Such omissions could lead to a large
bias in the models. The world’s soils
contain almost 100gigatons of carbon
– twice as much as the entire atmos-phere. Just a 10 percent increase in
soil-respiration rates, says Bahn, would
release more CO2 in a year than humans
pump out.

You feel passionate about financial
matters today or about something
you own. You’re concerned
because you might be looking
for it or trying to clean it or fix
it. Why? Because it matters!
Your relationships with others
will be powerful today, primarily
because you are so powerful. You
won’t hesitate to say what you
mean and go after what you want.
Clandestine romance and secret
love affairs might take place
today. Something is hidden,
and you feel passionately about
it. (You know who you are.)
In group situations, you might
try to vehemently persuade
others to agree with you. Lighten
up. Just speak your piece, and
let them decide. (Ya think?)
You might fall passionately in love
with a boss or someone older or
richer today. This is a feeling that
really grips you! Fortunately, it will
pass. (But it will be memorable.)
You’ll love seeing beautiful
buildings, parks, boutiques,
galleries and the creative
work of others. Romance with
someone from a different
background also might flower.

This is a highly romantic,
passionate day. A new relationship
that begins now will be intense,
because your responses to
others are quite physical.
You are focused on partners and
close friends today, hopefully
for a good reason. People feel
the intense and magnetically
drawn to each other. Have fun!
You might be obsessed about
something at work today,
especially if you’re trying to
improve things or make something
more attractive. Lighten up.
Others will get the drift.
This is a classic day for love
at first sight, especially for
your sign. Eyes across a
crowded room and all that.
(Be still, my beating heart.)
You’ll enjoy making home
improvements or redecorating
today. In particular, you want to
make things look more beautiful as
well as function more smoothly.
You’re unusually persuasive
today, which makes this a great
day for those of you who sell,
teach, market and act. No one
can resist you! This also is a
powerful day for writers.

The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia
BUILDING on the terror of A Haunting in Connecticut, this horrifying tale traces a young family’s nightmarish descent
into a centuries-old Southern hell. When Andy Wyrick (Chad Michael Murray, House of Wax) moves his wife Lisa
(Abigail Spencer, TV’s Mad Men) and daughter Heidi to an historic home in Georgia, they quickly discover they are not
the house’s only inhabitants. Joined by Lisa’s free-spirited sister, Joyce (Katee Sackhoff, TV’s Battlestar Galactica), the
family soon comes face-to-face with a bone-chilling mystery born of a deranged desire...a haunting secret rising from
underground and threatening to bring down anyone in its path.
