The Polar Bear Derby is a day filled with fun, games and competition. It is a chance for dens to compete against other dens and pack can compete against other packs. A den may consist of a current den or a pack may combine scouts to make a new den. Den participation is recommended and a good size for a den is 4-8 scouts. What should I wear? Snowsuits are encouraged. Hats, gloves and boots are mandatory. No sneakers will be allowed. Registration On-line registration is required. Shark Attack Details of Events: Beach Volleyball - Using a beach ball, see how many volleys your team can get without the ball touching the ground. - Each team will have 5 minutes to get as many contiguous volleys as they can - 1 point will be awarded for each contiguous volley Splish Splash Relay - Using a sand shovel, carry small balls from the starting line to the pool and fill the pool. - Each team will have 1 minute to see how many balls they can get into the pool - 1 point will be awarded for each ball in the pool Swim Team - Each team member will put on the swimming apparel (snorkel, life jacket, flippers) and ‘swim’ to the island and back. Give the swimming apparel to the next team member until each member has completed their swim - The average time will be scored Surfing Safari - Find the hidden seashells (cardboard cutouts) throughout the event using a map and clues - When you find the seashells, use the stamp attached to stamp your map. - There will be 10 seashells to be found – some of them may be on a person! - 1 point will be awarded for each stamp on your map I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts - Each team member will take turns kicking a coconut through the obstacle course. - The coconut must be kicked (no hands allowed) - The average time will be scored Rev 1 Page 3 of 4 Surfs Up - Get your entire team across the ‘wave’ (low balance beam) without falling off while carrying a boogie board. - If you fall off, you must go back and start again. - The average time will be scored Beach Cooler Game (Indoor Game) - Each time will have 1 minute to memorize the items that are in the beach cooler - Then the cooler will be closed and the team must see if they can name all 20 items - 1 point will be given for each correctly named item in the cooler Under the Sand (Indoor Game) - What beach items you can spot inside the clear tube filled with sand - Each team will be given 1 minute to name all of the items - 1 point will be given for each correctly named item in the tube Shark Attack - How many sea creatures you can toss into the sharks mouth - Each team will be given 5 minutes to see how many they can get - 1 point will be given for each creature that gets into the sharks mouth Pineapple Punch (Archery Range) - Can you hit the pineapple? - 1 point will be given for each arrow that hits the target for your team Lifeguard Rescue - Using a sled, rescue the drowning victim - Teams must place the victim on the sled and carry him back to the lifeguard stand - The average time will be scored Surf ‘n Turf - Get the seafood on the dinner plate using a slingshot - Each team member will get a chance to see how much seafood they can get onto the plate - 1 point will be award for each piece of food that makes it onto the plate Beach Party Theme Award - A special award/ribbon will be given to the team that best displays the beach theme using props.
