COMMUNITY NIGHT I am pleased to present Willowwind’s 2015 Summer Program, “Blow Off S.T.E.A.M this Summer.” In this brochure you will find some old favorites as well as a number of new engaging classes that fit within our S.T.E.A.M theme. S.T.E.A.M stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. All of our summer classes relate to one or more of these areas. In a world with a highly competitive job market, we strive to equip students with the necessary 21st century skills that will allow them to make valuable contributions to society. Our summer program provides students with opportunities to create, collaborate, problem solve, and develop confidence, persistence, and ultimately a love of learning. Unique learning experiences, small multi-age classrooms, experienced educators, and a culture of caring are characteristics that set Willowwind summer programs apart from other programs. Summer classes at Willowwind engage students in exciting hands-on, experiential learning. Our innovative campus, including our LEED-Gold certified building, outdoor classrooms and extensive grounds provide ample opportunities for fun and unique learning throughout our summer program. Rube Goldberg was an American cartoon artist, inventor, sculptor, and engineer. In his lifetime he created many cartoons that depicted clever and intrinsic inventions that would assist in common every day tasks, such as turning on a light switch or creating a home-made alarm clock. June 8 - June 19 Brand New 1/2 Day 2-Week Course! Class ID Rube Goldberg 8:30-11:30am (Mornings Only) RG01 For the aspiring engineer! Work collaboratively, problem solve, and think critically and creatively to design a complex machine that completes a simple task. Based on the philosophy of inventor and cartoonist, Rube Goldberg (see biography above), students will spend this two week class designing overly complex machines that perform simple tasks such as watering a plant, turning a light on/off, popping a balloon, shutting a door and more! After learning about Rube Goldberg himself, his philosophy, and viewing examples of his machines, students will work together to create, test, and fine tune a large scale project. Class Tuition $280 Registration Information & Policies Registration Policies To secure your space in a class, you must pay half of the total tuition (including the registration fee and any optional B/ASP fees) at the time of registration. The total tuition must be paid in full no later than July 1 or 7 days prior to the program start date, whichever comes first. If payment is not made in full by this date, we reserve the right to cancel your registration. We process all registrations in the order they are received. We accept registrations as long as there is space available. We do not offer prorated tuition for absences or late starts. We cannot accommodate drop-ins. For each student there is a one-time per summer 2015 non-refundable registration fee. The registration fee is $15 per student for online registration and $35 per student for paper registration. Who Can Register Public, private, and home school students ages 3 through Grade 8. For preschool programs, students must be toilet-trained and at least three years old. Class Cancellation Policies All class cancellations must be processed by Willowwind staff, even if registration was processed online. 1. If you cancel your registration at least four weeks before the class begins, we will refund tuition, less a $50 cancellation fee per class. 2. If you cancel your registration less than four weeks before the class starts, no refund will be given. Any tuition paid for the cancelled class, minus the $50 cancellation fee, becomes a credit, which you may use toward another Willowwind Summer Program during Summer 2015. Any lesser tuition costs from the new class will not be refunded. 3. No credit or refund is given to any cancellations occurring within two business days of the start date of the class. 4. If tuition has not been paid in full by July 1 or 7 days prior to program start date, and no action to cancel has been taken, no refund or class credit will be issued and the registration will be terminated. 5. Cancellation by Willowwind: We reserve the right to cancel a class if enrollment is insufficient. Any tuition paid will be refunded in full. 6. We want all students to be satisfied with their experiences at Willowwind School. If after attending the first day of class, you decide that you do not want to continue, let us know before the second class and your tuition will become a credit, which you may use toward another available space in a Summer 2015 class. In this case, B/ASP fees are non-refundable and will not be credited. After the second day of class, we will not make any tuition or enrollment adjustments. Attendance We expect students to attend every day of the classes in which they enroll, except in the case of illness or emergency. If a student does miss class, regardless of the reason, tuition will not be prorated and refunds will not be issued. Behavior All students have the right to learn in a safe classroom that is free from excessive distraction. When a child’s behavior becomes a problem, the faculty and staff use a number of strategies beginning with reteaching, reinforcing and acknowledging appropriate behavior, and moving on to redirecting an individual student. If a child is unable to correct behavior or is unresponsive to teacher interventions, Willowwind reserves the right to excuse the child from summer programs and provide parents with suggestions for other summer program placement. Refunds will not be made for current camp class days not attended due to dismissal. Should the child be registered for future camps, we will refund for tuition fees paid at time of dismissal. The Before Summer Program (BSP) is from 7:30-8:30am and is $35/ week; and the After Summer Program (ASP) is from 3:30-6:00pm and is $75/ week. Registration for B/ASP occurs with class registration. 2. If you cancel your registration in B/ASP at least four weeks before the start date of the program, we will refund B/ASP fees. 3. If you cancel your registration in B/ASP less than four weeks before the start date of the program, no refund will be given. Any fees paid for B/ASP, becomes a credit, which you may use toward another Willowwind summer class during Summer 2015. 4. No credit or refund is given to any B/ASP cancellations occurring within two business days of the start date of the program. 5. If B/ASP fees have not been paid in full by July 1 or 7 days prior to the program start date, whichever comes first, and no action to cancel has been taken, then no refund or class credit will be issued and the child’s registration in B/ASP will be terminated. 6. If a student misses Before or After Summer Care, is picked up early, or dropped off late, fees will not be prorated. 7.
