Headlines:
A French official says two men holed up with a hostage near a school agreed to negotiations to
safely evacuate students, but the terror suspects say they want to die like martyrs. The men are
suspected in the attack against the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris that left 12 people
dead.
The U.S. denies doing anything to cripple North Korea's internet service following a hack of Sony
Pictures it blames on Pyongyang. While the administration has been coy about the disruption, two
senior officials say that it was not a U.S. operation. North Korea's networks are not considered
especially robust since they rely on a single provider, China United Network Communications
Group.

An Indonesian official says it's unclear whether signals picked up in the search area today are
pings from the voice and data recorders from AirAsia flight 8501. The head of search operations
says no pieces of metal were detected near where the signals originated in the Java Sea. The
crash killed all 162 people on board.
South Dakota U.S. Senator John Thune has been named chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. The Senate chose Thune yesterday to lead the committee.
Thune says he's excited to head the panel as part of Republican efforts to create jobs and improve
the U.S. economy.
Governor Dennis Daugaard has made two appointments to the South Dakota Board of Education.
Daugaard has appointed Deb Shephard and reappointed Don Kirkegaard. The nine members of
the board serve four-year terms. Kirkegaard is the superintendent of the Meade School District.
Shephard recently retired from Lake Area Tech after a 36-year career.
The state Board of Water and Natural Resources has authorized more than $7.6 million in grant
funds, loans and debt forgiveness for waste and water infrastructure proposals. The money will
fund projects aimed at improving drinking water, bettering environmental protections and enhancing wastewater treatment. The board approved more than $846,000 for grants and $6.7 million for loans.
The North Dakota Department of Health says seven people in the state have died from influenza.
The department also indicated that 99 people have been hospitalized. There have been nearly
2,900 cases reported statewide.




