I hope that the coming year will bring everyone lower scores, lower handicap and lots of tournament victories, but most importantly, camaraderie, fellowship and good sportsmanship. Have you made your New Year’s Resolutions? Are you determined to lower that handicap? Do you hope to win a “major” event at the Club? Or do you just plan on increasing your participation in Club activities? Hopefully the answer is YES to all of the above. You will be receiving your 2015 Tournament and Social Calendar shortly. In it is a wealth of information. It includes all of the Club’s social functions, member tournaments, holidays and most of the outside corporate events. Things can change, however. That is why it is important to read the monthly newsletters. Any additions or deletions of events will be included on the back calendar page of each newsletter. Your safest bet, however, is to call the Golf Shop for current activities. It just takes a minute to find out if your day of golf will go uninterrupted or to find out the current schedule for that day. BEST WINTER PUTTER 2015 could be your year to be crowned Best Winter Putter. The contest will officially start on Saturday, January 3 and conclude on Saturday, January 31, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and open to all members over the age of 23. The competition will be an aggregate 9-hole score with the lowest score over the five weeks being crowned the Best Winter Putter. Each member gets their first 9-hole round FREE and if they wish to try again (not on the same day), each successive round will be $20. There will be prizes for Best Winter Putter, Best Male Putter, Best Female Putter and most “aces”. For complete details, refer to the Rules and Regulations sheet posted in the Golf Shop. GOLF TIP OF THE MONTH: Course management―Now that your swings are fine-tuned and you are ready for that career round, here are a couple of reminders for better scoring during the winter months. With the greens firm and fast, it is always better to be below the hole than above it and likewise when hitting approach shots to the greens, it is always easier to be on the wide side of the flag rather than on the short side. In other words, if you are going to miss the green, give yourself the best opportunity for an up-and-down. THINGS TO REMEMBER IN 2015: Fix all of your ball marks and any others you might find Replace your divots or fill them with divot sand Rake your bunker after completing your shot or shots Stay OUTSIDE of the Virtual Rope System Keep those carts well away from the tees and greens (look at the extra exercise you will get) Play at a 4-hour pace and if not, let the following group play through Make sure your adjusted score is posted or have the Golf Shop post it for you Turn in a completed card (name, date, tees played, signed and attested) And most important of all, HAVE A GREAT 2015… GOOD GOLFING! Crystalaire Country Club BITS ‘N’ PIECES Crystalaire Men’s Club Here we are starting off the New Year of 2015! I hope your Christmas and New Year’s celebrations were happy and filled with the love and warmth of family and friends. from the Men’s Club President, Kevin Shankel Life changes occur when we least expect them. Routines lead us from day to day, week to week and month to month. Suddenly one day, we all may find ourselves reaching out for something that had always been there only to find..... it has slipped away. The Holidays come and lead most folks to continued and heightened happy times with friends and family. For others, friends, family and loved ones may no longer be a part of what was once the “most wonderful time of the year”. At CCC, it has always been amazing to see how times of sadness for one will lead so many others to rally and garner help, comfort and understanding when it is needed the most. 'Tis the season to be thankful for all the folks we have come to know here at CCC, who help us reflect and “share the memories” of those no longer with us. 'Tis the season for all of us to be more joyful than triumphant in times of good fortune. Be sure to carry through the spirit of this season into the next and every one beyond. Ted, Frank, Bob, Jim and Pete......It has been an honor to serve with those that I respect the most. C l u b It is nice to start out this year with news that speaks of love and kindness to others, as experienced by our members Marina and Mel McNutt. The AV Press covered a story regarding their missionary trip to the Middle East organized by their church in conjunction with Wheels for the World and Global Hope Network International. They spent 11 days there helping fit wheelchairs for disabled children and adults. The McNutts felt this was a good way for them to help as Marina is a nurse and Mel a physical therapist. They say the experience was both physically and emotionally demanding but so personally rewarding that they plan to do it again. We want to thank CCC and Rock’n Roz for a great Christmas Party. The turnout was better than ever, and of course we all had a fabulous time. The karaoke and dancing were a big hit and the Twelve Days of Christmas performance was better than ever. Don’t miss this event next year. Santa’s Brunch was another great success with a good turnout of children letting Santa know what they were wishing for and enjoying the Mickey Mouse pancakes they love so much. N well wishes go out to all those who fell victim to the various cold and e Get flu bugs during the holidays (including yours truly) and hope everyone is better and ready to start working on those New Year’s resolutions! w feeling Sincere condolences go out to Gene and Teri Mares and family on the s passing of Gene’s brother, Don. Please contact me with any information for this column. We want to hear about your travels, special family events, etc. Call me at 661-944-1368 or e-mail me at [email protected]. See you next month. From Jim Stead: A shout out to Jay Lockwood for marking trees for trimming on the golf course. Thought for the month: The trouble with the guy that talks too fast is that he often says something he hasn’t thought of yet. C.W.G.A. ACES, ACES, ACES, ACES, ACES Did your game take a backseat because of the holidays? And now cold and wind are the new excuses? That is fine, we are all in the same boat, but CWGA is kicking off 2015 with another try at GIRLS GONE WILD!! So if you have nothing going on any Tuesday or Saturday morning, come on up and sign in at the Golf Shop for games with the girls. We’ll mix and match foursomes. Nothing could be easier, just show up before 9 a.m., sign up and you have a game! Plan on having a good time. Come and support your Ladies’ Club and if you have any new ideas, contact our President Cheryl Olmstead to present them at the first meeting of the year. Happy New Year ladies! Your news reporter, Barb Dettloff Santa Claus did not bring any early Christmas presents, as there were no Hole-In-One’s to report in December at Crystalaire. That brings to a close the 2014 Hole-in-One season. There were nine Hole-In-Ones recorded for the year. All nine were by men, as the women were shut out for the first time in many years. Eight of the nine “aces” were by Crystalaire members and no one had more than one. Hole #6 was the most “aced” hole with 5, followed by Hole #11 with 3. There was one Hole-In-One on Hole # 8. The men’s and ladies’ Hole-In-One program continues to grow. For further information, contact one of the Golf Shop staff for assistance. Maybe 2015 will be YOUR year!
