WELCOME GUEST PREACHER – Alex Patchin McNeill
Alex Patchin McNeill is the Executive Director of More Light Presbyterians. He is the first openly
transgender person to head a mainline Protestant organization. He is an openly transgender man,
a life-long Presbyterian, and a nationally known educator and advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender and queer (LGBTQ) Christians. He has trained hundreds of Christians to become
community leaders through the Institute for Welcoming Resources and the Reconciling Ministries
Network. He played key roles organizing faith communities for the passage of Amendment 10A
in the PC(USA), and for marriage equality legislation in Maryland. McNeill has also campaigned
for ballot measures and legislation to promote LGBTQ rights. After helping to win ordination
equality for LGBTQ Presbyterians in 2011, he became the first openly transgender ministry
candidate from his home presbytery in Western North Carolina. His journey to ordination is
currently being chronicled in the documentary, Out of Order. Alex holds a Master’s of Divinity
from Harvard Divinity School, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina –
Chapel Hill. He currently resides just outside of Washington, DC with his wife and three dogs.

"MEAL TRAIN IS A ROLLING"
Jerry Edens will be having surgery on January 29th. He is requesting meals. Deacon Margaret
Breidenbaugh will be using Meal Train, a web-based system, to organize meals for Jerry. In addition
to Jerry’s neighbors, friends from work and the choir, the rest of our congregation may contact
Margaret to provide meals. Meals may be store-bought and do not require home cooking. Meal
Train will provide you with a calendar and dates that fit your schedule. Friendly online reminders
are also provided. See Margaret on Sunday, or email her and leave your most current contact
information (phone and email address) to set up Jerry’s Meal Train account. Thanks.

PER CAPITA – WHAT’S THAT?!
From the PCUSA website, “Per capita is a fundamental way in which all of the nearly 11,000
congregations and mid councils of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are connected and participate in
the work of the wider church.” Per capita makes it possible for Presbyterians to govern ourselves the
way we do and makes possible our effort for visible unity of the church of Jesus Christ.
Annually, an amount is determined to be needed to support functions of the General Assembly
($7.07), Synod ($3.25) and Presbytery ($18.50) totally: $28.82. Each church is assessed this amount per
member and is required to pay. We ask each member to prayerfully consider paying this amount,
over-and-above their estimate of giving, as a member of MAPC. Envelopes will be provided for this
or simply indicate on your check or pew envelope that your offering is for 2015 Per Capita. For 2014,
we received a total of $1,289.04; 29% of our share to Presbytery which is $4,573.32.
ENVELOPES AND NUMBERS, OH MY!
As we begin a new year of giving time, talents and money, the folks who count the latter are seeking
to improve our process. It would be very helpful if you could put your envelope number on the
Upper Left Corner of your check if you have given a check. If cash, please put on the outside of the
envelope.
How do you know your number? Please see the list on the table by the envelope packets at the top
of the stairs. No, you do not have to use an envelope; many do not. Putting your number on the
check will help with the data entry into our software.
Thanks for all your many gifts including this little one if you choose to utilize it!
