The 2.0 mm Plate Holding Trocar Instrument Set TECHNIQUE GUIDE Indicated for intraoral mandible 2.0 mm plate application 2.0 mm Plate Holding Trocar — Technique 1 Assemble the Plate Holder to the Trocar Handle Insert the 2.0 mm Plate Holder [397.312] into the Trocar Handle [397.310] by placing the blue tip end of the holder into the handle. Snap into place. (Pull hard to remove.) Determine angle of handle by inserting the plate holder into one of the four 90° positions at the end of the handle. 2 Attach the Removable Metal Point Advance the outer sleeve of the Plate Holder by turning the knurled ring in a clockwise direction (this protects the opening of the Plate Holder). Attach the Removable Metal Point [397.317] to the tip of the sleeve. 2 knurled ring 3 Insert the Plate Holding Trocar Make a percutaneous stab incision and insert the Plate Holding Trocar. Remove the metal point from inside the oral cavity. (Use caution when removing the sharp metal point.) 4 Attach the Cheek Retractor Blade To attach the Cheek Retractor Blade [397.313], insert the end of the Cheek Retractor between the handle and the knurled locking nut (see inset). To secure, tighten the knurled locking nut of the Trocar Handle. Plate placement can be initiated. knurled locking nut 3 5 Secure the plate to the Plate Holder To initiate this step, retract the outer sleeve by turning the knurled ring counter-clockwise. (This exposes the opening of the plate holder.) knurled ring Position the Plate Holder over the plate hole. Turn the knurled ring clockwise to secure. Determine optimal plate placement. 6 Secure the plate to the bone Place the 1.5 mm Drill Guide [397.325] through the Trocar Handle and Plate Holder. Drill with a 1.5 mm drill bit. Measure and insert the proper length screw. * Release the Plate Holder from the plate by turning the knurled ring counterclockwise. Move the Plate Holder to grasp another plate hole through the same percutaneous incision. * Do not use a screwdriver holding sleeve to insert the screw. 4 Features of the 2.0 mm Plate Holding Trocar • A transbuccal trocar which holds a 2.0 mm plate in place during percutaneous mandibular fracture fixation. • Unique design facilitates extraoral attachment and release of the Plate Holding Trocar from the 2.0 mm plate using a twisting motion. • Easy-to-use instrumentation which minimizes extensive operative exposure. • For use with the following Synthes 2.0 mm plates*: Straight Narrow Plates, 4, 6, and 8 hole [449.004–449.008], Curved Narrow Plates, 4 and 6 hole [449.014 and 449.016], Adaption Plate, 20 holes [449.020], Straight Broad Plates, 4, 6, and 8 hole [449.024– 449.028], Curved Broad Plates, 4 and 6 hole [449.025 and 449.027]. * The 2.0 mm Plate Holding Trocar can only be used with round holes.
