Victim Support ACT is an agency within the Directorate, providing rehabilitation, counselling and justice advocacy services to victims of crimes committed in the ACT. The Victims of Crime Commissioner is the head of Victim Support ACT. Victims of Crime Commissioner Executive Officer Legal Policy Officer ASO6 Directorate: Justice and Community Safety Position Title: Legal Policy Officer Agency: Victim Support ACT Position Number: 43609 Unit: Classification: ASO6 Section: Version: EVA No. Duties / Responsibilities The legal policy officer role at Victim Support ACT involves a diverse variety of duties and responsibilities. Under the limited direction of the Executive Officer to the Victims of Crime Commissioner, the legal policy officer will: 1. Work, negotiate & coordinate with criminal justice agencies, relevant government and non-government agencies in the development of partnerships and protocols. 2. Identify and investigate legal and procedural issues affecting victims of crime. 3. Contribute to the development of responses to local and national issues affecting victims of crime. 4. Undertake research for projects including law reform, to assist the Victims of Crime Commissioner in performance of his functions under the Victims of Crime Act 1994. 5. Assist the Victims of Crime Commissioner in performance of his functions as the Domestic Violence Project Coordinator (a separate appointment under the Domestic Violence Agencies Act 1986). 6. Provide secretariat support to the ACT Family Violence Intervention Program. 7. Work as part of a team within Victim Support ACT to support the delivery of services to victims of crime and promote access to their rights and entitlements. 8. Perform relevant administrative duties (including records management and website administration) as directed. A tertiary qualification in legal studies or law is mandatory 2. Experience working as a legal practitioner is highly desirable For example: o Recent experience working in a criminal court setting; o Recent experience providing legal advice to victims of crime.
