GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Due to ongoing construction, the weight room will be closed this week.

If you need some chocolate during finals this week, the Social Work Office, Room 245, has your
favorite for only $1.00. Stop by any time to get your treat!
CLUBS & ACTIVITIES

The Crucible, the spring main stage show, is changing its audition dates due to the fall musical
making the Illinois Theatre Fest. Auditions will now be held today, January 12 th from 3-6 PM,
January 13thfrom 1-4 PM, and January 14th from 1-4 PM. Be prepared to read scenes from the
script. All are welcome to audition. Have questions? See Mr. Kostro in Room 261. We all have
a little blood on our hands…

Archery Club will NOT be meeting this Monday after school.

Urban Arts Club meets tomorrow at 3:30 PM in Room 252.

For boys interested in track and field, we will have a short informational meeting today at 3:10
PM in Room 264 (the Drivers Ed classroom). Schedules and the information concerning our
season will be discussed. As a reminder, our season will start on January 20 th. Any questions?
See Coach Norman.

Pre-season conditioning for the upcoming mens’ gymnastics season begins Tuesday, January
20th at 6 AM in the gymnastics balcony. All are welcome. Questions? See Coach Amolsch in the
West PE Office.

Do you love dogs? Hinsdale South will have several pet therapy dogs visiting us in the
counseling office during Final Exam week! The Counseling Department is pleased to offer Pet
Therapy Dogs to help our students ease stress and create a positive mood. The certified therapy
dogs will be available for you to visit with on Wednesday January 14 th and Thursday, January
15th after school finals from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. You must sign up in the Counseling Office before
the event to participate. Please don’t forget to sign up if you plan to visit with the dogs as space
will be limited.

Didn’t make it to the library’s extended hours this week? Still have a few questions on your
upcoming final exams or a class project to finish? You are in luck--tutoring and snacks are still
available until 6:00 PM on Monday.


face-off in the annual Students vs. Staff Basketball Game! EVEN BETTER—we get to support St.
Baldrick’s by raising money and shaving our heads! Please email Ms. Johnson or see her in the

Don’t forget! Tonight the library is open until 6:00 PM for those who need a quiet place to
study, or a computer to work on. We also have tutors and snacks for those who need them.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, our fall musical was selected to perform at
the Illinois Theatre Festival. How cool! In order to prepare for this honor, we are performing
one last time for our Hinsdale South student body and community tonight at 7 PM in the
auditorium. Come celebrate and support the actors, technicians, and orchestra in their huge
accomplishments. This musical is hilarious and promises to make you laugh at least once.
Admission is a suggested donation of $10. See Mr. Yuska with questions.


Hornets – Need some space and a little help to prepare for finals? The Library is open for
extended hours this week until 6:00 PM Wednesday and Thursday, and next week on Monday
until 6:00 PM. We will keep you fueled with some healthy snacks and tutors will be here to help
with those last minute questions. Check the schedule posted in the library to see when the tutor
you need will be available. Make these your best final exams ever!

Attention all Junior and Senior NHS Applicants: The deadline for applications is today at 3:15
PM. Turn them in to the Guidance Department. Applications turned in after 3:15 PM on Friday
will not be considered for membership in NHS.


The Indian Prairie Public Library is hosting a Game Lock-In tomorrow night from 5:30-11:30 PM.
There will be laptops for League of Legends play as well as Xbox, PS4, and Wii for console
gaming. Register at the library or at www.ippl.info.

Don’t forget Hornets: The Hornets for Wounded Warriors Club is sponsoring tonight’s “Pack the
Place” basketball game against DGS. Shirts will be on sale during all lunch periods today and at
the door of the game to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Buy a shirt, wear it to
the game, and get in free! Students wearing shirts will also receive a ticket at the door to
compete at halftime for prizes. Come on out and support both your boys’ basketball team and
America’s veterans.

Come spend your first morning off during winter break with Hinsdale South’s speech team. Your
speech team has been rehearsing since September, has been competing statewide since early
November, and has been garnering many accolades and they are finally read to show off their
hard work. See acting, student written speeches, poetry, prose, and on-demand speaking all oat
its finest. Meet us this Monday at 9:00 AM in the Fine Arts Wing as we take you on a tour of 14
different speech events from 50 different students. See Mr. Yuska or Mr. Anderson for more
details.
ACADEMICS

Attention Juniors! Do you want to be a teacher someday? The Family and Consumer Sciences
Department offers a senior-only class called Invitation to Teach. Students intern at local
elementary schools or junior highs four days a week during 9th and 10th periods. Students help
with teaching lessons, grading papers, putting up bulletin boards, and tutoring small groups of
students. They also have an opportunity to shadow their teacher for a day and visit a Chicago
Public School. If you are interested, you must fill out an application and turn it in to Mr. Hughes
in the FACS Office by Friday, January 23 rd. Applications can be found in the FACS Office or
Guidance Office. Please contact Mrs. Hughes with any questions.

speech team has been rehearsing since September, has been competing statewide since early

you want to get your permit before 2 nd semester starts? If you answered yes, then you need to
attend a Drivers Ed meeting at 7:00 AM sharp today or tomorrow in Room 264, the Drivers Ed
classroom. At the meetings, you will be given the materials you’ll need to bring with you to the
DMV to receive your permit early. You only need to attend ONE of the dates. Please only attend
if you are sure that your parents will bring you to the DMV to take your test. If you have any
questions, please see Mr. Norman in the West PE office.


TODAY. Help offset the cost of tickets to the post-prom lake cruise by purchasing delicious
