Apply for a 2014-2015
The Builders Exchange is currently accepting nominations
for the 2015 BX Cornerstone Award.
This honor originated in 1954 as the “Man of the Year”
award, and was developed to recognize a prominent industry
professional who exemplifies outstanding service and
commitment to the local construction community.
Submitting a nomination is simple – just complete a
one-page form that will only take a few moments of your time.
If your nominee is chosen as a finalist by the BX Cornerstone
Review Committee, you will be asked to visit briefly with BX
staff members to provide additional details regarding his/her
qualifications for the award.
After the selections committee narrows the nominee list, the
Cornerstone Award winner will be selected by the BX board of
directors, and honored at the 2015 BX Annual Meeting.
For more information or to receive a nomination form,
contact Stacey Kruse (ext. 233) at the Exchange. Nomination
forms are also available online at bx.org.

of Safety Education
A current Builders Exchange staff
member has been named the new
Director of Safety Education & Events
for the association.
Paige Endicott, a Columbus
native and graduate of The Ohio State
University, had been working in a
support role in the Exchange safety
department, said Cathy Blackford, BX
executive director.
“Members of the Safety Council
of Greater Columbus (SCGC) know
Paige as a familiar face, since she has
Paige Endicott
been our staff manager of that group,”
Blackford noted. “She’s been doing a
great job here at the BX, and we believe strongly in promoting
from within whenever it works.”
Endicott grew up in Powell, attending Olentangy Liberty
High School. After college graduation, she worked in event
planning until joining the Exchange staff in March.
She will coordinate the BX safety education programs, which
kick off in 2015 with a Standard First Aid/CPR/AED class on
January 16 and an OSHA 10-Hour Training Course on January 20
and 22.
For more information or to register, contact Endicott at
ext. 236 at the Exchange or at [email protected].

THE BX FIELD LEADERSHIP
EXCELLENCE SERIES
The BX Field Leadership Excellence Series (BXFlex) is a
five-month, eight-session program designed to transform top
field force managers into high-impact leaders.
This is the first year for the program, with a class of 26 field
leaders from Exchange member firms. This is what participants
are saying about BXFlex:
Allen Leiter, superintendent
Humble Construction Co.
Years in the industry: 30
Why he’s participating: I want to be
more prepared to take the next step up
in the company.
What he’s learned and will use in his
career: The sessions on writing skills
and the DiSC Profile.
Why he would recommend BXFlex:
It’s very informational. You can learn
more – even if you think you know
everything.
For more information about the BX Field
Leadership Excellence Series contact Deb
Murphy (ext. 215) at the Exchange or email
[email protected].

$35 for employees of BX member firms
$45 for nonmembers
The BX safety department is offering the OSHA 10-Hour
Training Course on Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 20 and 22 from
8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants will learn about OSHA
compliance issues for 10 of the most common and deadly
hazards in construction, including fall protection, electrical
safety, scaffolding and trenching.
The OSHA 10-Hour Training Course is a great resource
for entry level workers and OSHA recommends updating this
certification every three to five years. Avoid any unnecessary
citations by educating your employees and by recommending
your sub-contractors to this training session.
The cost of the training is $169 for employees of BX Workers’
Comp Group firms, $209 for employees of BX member firms, and
$369 for nonmembers. Space is limited and will be filled on a
first-come, first-serve basis.
Register online at bx.org, or contact Paige Endicott (ext. 236)
at the Exchange.
BX Safety Award
Since 1995, the Builders Exchange has recognized the safety
efforts of Central Ohio construction firms. The BX Safety awards
recognize truly safety-focused companies.
There are two awards available, the BX Safety Achievement
Award and the BX Innovation Award; companies may receive
one or both of the awards. There is no pre-determined amount of
recipients in either category.
Which award could your company be recognized with?
• The BX Safety Achievement Award
To win a BX Safety Achievement Award a company must
prove its outstanding safety efforts and accomplishments
– through statistical data, jobsite performance and OSHA
history. Applicants are first judged on their injury and illness
statistics, including OSHA and workers’ compensation
rates for their specific NAICS (North American Industry
Classification System) code. Selected companies then
received an unannounced site safety audit where a team of
volunteer safety professionals evaluate safety practices in
action.
• The BX Safety Innovation Award
To win an Innovation Award, a company must submit
documentation of unique safety practices or tools that the
company has implemented. Examples of former Innovation
Award winners include a portable fall restrain system, a
ladder rung platform and an oxygen and acetylene storage
cart system, Examples of additional previous winners can be
found at bx.org.
Also consider nominating someone for the Meg DeWerth
Industry Impact Award. Created in 2004 and named in honor
of Meg DeWerth, a long-time Builders Exchange employee;
the award is given to a person, company or program that has
significantly improved the safety and health
of employees in the central Ohio
construction industry.
The applications are
available online at bx.org, or by
calling Paige Endicott (ext. 236)
at the Exchange.
