Arson, vandalism and burglaries occur
BELTON-HON EA PATH -Thieves did not take a break during
the Christmas holidays, with various
reports handled by law enforcement
officers ranging from arson to burglaries.
•An arson was reported Jan. 3
about 9 p.m. in the 800 block of
Abercrombie Road near Honea Path,
according to an Anderson County
Sheriff’s Office report.
The homeowner had gone outside
to wash eggs off his vehicle from an
earlier vandalism.
When he re-entered the home, a
smoke alarm activated in the hallway
and he saw a fire at the end of the
home in one of the bedrooms. He
extinguished the fire with a garden
hose.
The resident told deputies he did
not see anyone around the home
prior to the fire, but heard a vehicle
leave the area at a high rate of speed.
He did say that his son had been in a
disagreement over a female, but he
was unsure if that was a contributing
factor in the fire and vandalism.
The arson case was turned over to
Friendship Fire Department and the
Anderson County Fire Department
arson investigator Brian Moon.
•A burglary was reported at
Timken on Brick Mill Road between
Dec. 31 and Jan. 2. The maintenance
technician noticed a trailer containing a welder was missing.
The garage door was slightly ajar
and the latch containing a padlock
had been cut. Forensics was notified
and dispatched to the site.
The trailer and tools were worth
about $6,000, according to a sheriff’s
office report.
•A burglary was reported in the
2100 block of Cheddar Road near
Belton, having occurred sometime
between Dec. 23 and Jan. 3.
When the resident arrived home
following a trip, he found that the
rear door had been pried open. It
appeared nothing had been stolen,
but the homeowner found a piece
of the door lock on the dresser in a
bedroom.
•A burglary was reported to the
sheriff’s office which had occurred
between Jan. 1 and 2 in the 1500
block of Pinson Farm Road near
Belton.
A broken pane from an earlier
break-in had not yet been repaired,
allowing the burglar to gain entrance
to the home. About $1,250 worth of
items was stolen.
•Tossing fireworks at a bicyclist
- while a police officer was nearby landed a driver in trouble on Dec. 29.
Roger Dale Brock, 39, of George
Alewine Road in Due West, was
charged with discharging fireworks
from a vehicle, third-offense driving under suspension and was also
served with outstanding warrants.
While on patrol about 12:35 p.m.,
a Honea Path officer saw a man pull
up to a stop sign at the intersection of
Saluda and Eastview streets.
The man lit and threw a bottle
rock from the vehicle at a person
riding a bicycle. Officers stopped
the vehicle and identified the driver,
giving him tickets for two offenses.
Brock was also wanted on a warrant
for other charges including driving
under the influence. He was arrested
and taken to the Anderson County
Detention Center.
•Two hit-and-run incidents were
reported on Dec. 30 at Burger King
on East Greer Street in Honea Path.
The first was reported Dec. 30
about 1:40 p.m. Someone struck a
car and then fled the scene, based on
witnesses’ accounts.
Another hit-and-run was reported
at about 8:30 p.m. A man said that a
woman driving a Buick or Oldsmobile backed into his vehicle and left
the scene.
•A Honea Path resident was apparently the target of a scam phone
call on Jan. 3. Someone called, asked
for the person and told her they were
calling from the IRS.

reports, pick up this week’s NewsChronicle on newsstands today.
