WHO: Lung Cancer Living Room Support Group It’s overwhelming for patients and their families who have been diagnosed with cancer. The journey can include trying to deal with various treatments and options from various healthcare professionals like radiologists, pharmacists, oncologists and surgeons, to name a few. Nurse navigation has become a sub-speciality over the past few years that, frankly, has become as important to survival and well-being as all the other moving parts. The role of nurse navigators can include (1) planning and educating patients and families about their individual cancer diagnosis and treatment options, (2) supporting and navigating each patient through treatment by reinforcing education and coordinating infor- mation and care with a team of physicians and allied healthcare professionals, (3) participating in weekly cancer conferences with physicians, genetic couselors, and nurses to discuss and determine the best treatment plan for each newly diagnosed patient, (4) facilitating support groups and programs and referring patients to appropriate cancer support programs and resources in their communities, and (5) teaching about cancer prevention, screening guidelines, diagnosis, treatment options, and the importance of early detection. ALCF is honored to bring Kimberly and her vast experience to the Living Room. With too many awards and honors to list here representing her work in better patient outcomes thru Nurse Navigation, we are excited to share invaluable tools with our patients and audience worldwide. Don’t miss this Living Room and don’t fight cancer without a nurse navigator.
