DIAGNOSIS:
SUBCUTANEOUS TISSUE - PLEOMORPHIC SARCOMA
(MALIGNANT FIBROUS HISTIOCYTOMA)
CLINICAL HISTORY: F/90. Recurrence of subcutaneous mass which had previously been excised five years
earlier.
MACROSCOPIC: Bisection of this surgical specimen of skin and subcutaneous tissue shows a mass with a
firm pale cut surface.
MICROSCOPIC: The sections show a pleomorphic malignant tumour with predominantly spindle shaped
cells. There are occasional giant cells and areas of necrosis.
