The Baptism of the Lord
Focus: The fullness of God’s Spirit was upon Jesus.
The Spirit of God moved and worked in the lives of prophets
and saints. But the fullness of God’s Spirit rested upon his son,
Jesus. The power and presence of the Holy Spirt was evident in
the life of Jesus. When we open our lives to Jesus, we receive
the same Spirit that strengthened and sustained Jesus during his
life and ministry.

To those who planned, to those who practiced and rehearsed,
to those who cleaned, to those who decorated, to those who

AN ANCIENT BAPTISTERY One of the most ancient
and enduring sites for baptism in Rome is the church of San
Giovanni in Fonte. This church is in fact a baptistery, and
houses the font for the Lateran Basilica, the cathedral of Rome.
The Emperor Constantine sponsored its construction in the
year 315, and it is therefore the oldest baptistery in the world.
It is the model for nearly all later baptisteries, including perhaps the font in your own parish church-Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch C

THE WATERS OF BAPTISM
When new sod is put in, it needs constant saturation with water. Landscapers say that
this “knits” the sod to the soil. The same when a
branch is grafted onto a tree: the poultice that
joins them at the splice must be kept wet at all
times. Water is the stuff that binds the very cells of our bodies
together. No wonder religions throughout all times and cultures have used it so prominently. When Jesus stepped into the
Jordan for baptism, he “knit” himself to what had come before
him. By going to the Jordan, he made himself one with the
people of Israel who had crossed it into their Promised Land.
With John the Baptist, Christ wove himself into the prophetic
tradition that heralded the coming reign of God. He had become fully human in the waters of Mary’s womb, and by partaking in the rite of the baptism of repentance, Jesus identified
himself with our sinful, frail humanity. It is through the waters
of baptism that Christ continues to graft new members onto
his Body, the Church; through these waters we are cleansed
from sin and filled with the promise of grace, given our destiny for eternal life. For us, as for Jesus, it is also the waters of
baptism that inaugurate our mission to proclaim the Good
News. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
As a way to continue to deepen our sense of
Stewardship and to thank our parishioners
who generously serve in our parish, a “Steward of the Week”
is announced each week. We realize that we cannot adequately
thank every single parishioner who generously gives of his or
her time, talent, and treasure, but by thanking one person each
week, we are expressing our gratitude for all of you.
Remember:IC Parish Prayer Ministry for
Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. This involves
taking home the priest’s chalice box that is provided by the
parish and using it as a center piece for your prayers for vocations during the week. The chalice box can be picked up after
attending Sunday Mass and returned the next weekend. If interested contact the church office @835-4323 or email Clarene
Hoyt at [email protected]

Guide Book & Directory
In order to help us know more about our IC Church Parish and
to have an annually updated church directory, we have
contracted with Guide Book Publishing to produce
“Guide Book and Directory”. This book will be directly
mailed to every registered household in our parish and is being
provided at no cost to our church.
If you would like to be included in the Directory and receive a
copy of it, please be sure you are a registered member of
Immaculate Conception Parish. Registration forms are available in the church vestibule & at the church office.
We also ask that you let the church office know of any
changes, additions, or deletions that may have occurred in
YOUR family over the past year.
Have you moved, changed phone numbers or had a change in
a family member’s status? Please contact the church office at
501-835-4323, if you have any changes to make in YOUR
family’s information before the new Guide Book and
Directory is published.
If you do not want your phone number and/or address
listed in the publication, please contact the church office
before January 30th.
The Guide Book & Directory is and shall remain the property of the
church and is intended for the private use of the members of this
congregation only. Use of this book by anyone for business purposes
or for telephone or mail solicitations is strictly forbidden.
Advertising Opportunity-Guide Book & Directory
The parish Guide Book & Directory is the Who, What, Where,
When, Why and How of our parish. The book is being provided
at no cost to our Church, including the mailing to each
registered family and is being subsidized by local businesses
that advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and
would like to find out about advertising in our book, please
call the church office at 501-835-4323.
Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families
would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a nonadvertiser. It “will pay” to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory.
