Artist, Barbara Craig will illustrate how she develops her work to produce spontaneous, loose acrylic landscapes. Barbara will show her sketchbooks of source material; pencil, pen, colour sketches and photographs and demonstrate how a painting progresses from this vital ‘first hand’ information to a finished painting injected with her own personality. The album was also nominated for a Choice Music Prize that year. 2009 saw David return with his second solo offering ‘The Victory Dance’. Both of these albums were written and recorded between stints in the hectic Bell X1 touring schedule. Similarly, Dave’s new project, ‘Join Me in the Pines’ was written and recorded over a year and half while on and off the road. JMITP is a return to the somewhat isolated creative process under which his debut album was made. This time around the process benefits from a newly built home studio, (which was tried and tested on the demos for Bell X1’s “Chop Chop” album). Once again Geraghty displays his musical skills on the new album by playing almost all of the instruments, although it was enhanced by some great talents from the traditional, folk and classical worlds. Clare Finglass, who appeared on Dave’s first two albums, again lends her voice to make one half of the backing vocal duo. The other half being Dave’s Mammy. “Because apart from being amazing, she works for free”. Join Me In The Pines released their debut single ‘Joy Is A Lion’ in early 2014 to two sell out shows in Dublin’s Unitarian Church and Coughlan's in Cork. An evening of French food and film, with our Cottage Café serving classic French dishes and wine in advance of our screening of the hilarious French comedy, 'Me, Myself & Mum'. A clever adaptation of Guillaume Gallienne’s stage play, the writer and actor plays himself from a child to a teenager to a young man as he charts his awkward life with a domineering mother. In drag, he also plays his own mother, creating sensational two-handed scenes by himself. Gallienne’s life is presented in a series of fast-paced and funny vignettes that detail the most embarrassing moments of his life, with a great supporting cast and a script full of clever misdirection. See it because it won Best Film and Best Actor at the French Cesar awards, see it for the novelty of a man playing himself and his mother, see it because it's laugh-out-loud funny or see it because it's a great story. Just see it! Director: Guillaume Gallienne, Duration: 85 mins. Language: French Cert:18 Based on a graphic novel by the film director’s wife, We are the Best! is about three young misfits growing up in early '80s Stockholm. Pixie-ish, mohawk-sporting Klara and her best friend Bobo are 13-year-old rebels looking for a cause. Despite having no instruments or musical talent, the two put all their energy into forming an all-girl punk band, recruiting their shy, classical guitar-playing schoolmate Hedvig as the third wheel. Neglected or taken for granted at home and school, the three girls react by making themselves un-ignorable, and when they’re mocked for looking different, they demand centre stage. Impressed by their performances, their school music teachers offer them a spot at a Christmas concert. What in the world could three, smart, middle-class, 13-year-old girls growing up in Stockholm in 1982 have to rebel against? Well, as Marlon Brando once memorably shrugged: “whaddaya got?” Director: Lukas Moodysson, Duration: 101 minutes Language: Swedish (with English subtitles), Cert: 15A* *Films classified 15A have been deemed appropriate for viewers of fifteen and over.
