The grand prize includes a cash award of $2,500 plus a trip for the winner and two family members to New York City, for the awards ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations. Courtesy Photo Mr. And Mrs. Nicholas Harpold ALLIANCE — Tara Bastron, daughter of Tana and Dan Fillis of Alliance and the late Terry Bastron, was married to Nicholas Harpold, son of Connie and Ivan Harpold of Gering, on Sept. 2, in an evening double ring service at the Alliance Methodist Church, with Rev. Doug Griger officiating. The bride was given in marriage by her stepfather, Dan Fillis, and her grandfathers Ron Meter and Alvin Bastron. Tatum Bastron of Chadron, twin sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. Maslynn Yardley of Alliance, niece of the bride, was the flower girl. Cameron Harpold of Scottsbluff, brother of the groom, was the ring bearer. Ivan Harpold, father of the groom, served as best man. Ushers were Gus Wilkinson, cousin of the bride, and Jay Johnson, brother of the bride. Ron and Ruthe Meter, grandfather and step-grandmother of the bride, attended the guest book. Jade Johnson, cousin of the bride, and Becca Dobry, friend of the couple were personal attendants. Candle lighters were Kayla and Tyler Harris, cousins of the bride. A dinner and dance reception at the Eagles followed the ceremony, with Esther Bastron, grandmother of the bride, Penny Benson, aunt of the bride, and Kayla Harris, cousin of the bride as servers. The scripture reader was Tiffany Naylor, cousin of the groom. Cynthia Horn was the organist and Deb Williams was the soloist. The bride is a 2001 graduate of Alliance High School and holds a Bachelor of Science and Nursing degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She works in the surgical unit at Regional West Medical Center at Scottsbluff. The groom is a 1998 graduate of Scottsbluff High School. He is employed as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad. Girl Scouts, Coming Events OGALLALA — Guiding Star Girl Scout Council will host a Junior Jubilee at Bayard this month focusing on financial sensibility. Also in November, Guiding Star Girl Scout Council will host its annual dinner-theater trip to Denver for a performance of "Phantom." Girl Scouting provides a wide variety of girl-planned and centered activities from those that occur in troop meetings to many councilsponsored events and trips. Spring events will soon be announced. They will kick off with a celebration of Girl Scouting's 95th Anniversary with a food drive service project at Girl Scout Nights at NPCC's and WNCC's Women's basketball games. The daylong event was hosted by Guiding Star Girl Scout Council, with 41 girls and 13 adults from the Western Nebraska communities of Alliance, Curtis, Gothenburg, Maxwell, North Platte, and Wallace attending. Margaret “Sooky” Marks of Mullen served as the event's director, with ninth-graders Lauren Boyer, Kasey Brown, and Kelsey Porath helping to organize the event as the project to complete their Girl Scout Silver Award. The theme of this Junior Jubilee focused on the theater arts and earning the Junior Girl Scout Theater badge. Those attending from Alliance were Saige Benton, Davina Berg, April Garret, Bethany Grant, Elena Reza, Sara Schleicher, Jaycie Sward, Olivia Vogel, Marti Schleicher and Dorothy Berg.
