Tuner Photography 214 User Settings: U1 and U2 Modes Some Nikon camera models have a user settings feature that allows you assign frequently-­‐used camera setting to the U1 and U2 exposure mode positions. This feature enables the photographer to customize the camera settings to various photographic situations such as landscape, nature, portrait, flash, causal, events, etc. This worksheet outlines all the steps for setting up the user settings and all settings that can be assigned to U1 and U2. Note: Setting up U1 & 2 is an optional feature. 1. Select the exposure mode that you’d like to use with the exposure mode dial (do not select U1 or U2). Programmed Auto, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual 2. Select and set the following camera settings: ü If you selected Programmed Auto set the Flexible Program settings ü If you selected Aperture Priority set the f/stop ü If you selected Shutter Priority set the shutter speed ü If you selected Manual set the shutter speed and f/stop ü Flash Mode (if applicable) ü Flash Compensation (if applicable) ü Autofocus select mode: AF-­‐S, AF-­‐C, AF-­‐A ü Autofocus area mode: AF-­‐S single or Auto AF-­‐C Single, d 9, d 21, d 51, 3D, Auto AF-­‐A Single, d 9, d 21, d 51, 3D, Auto ü Focus Point position in the viewfinder ü Auto Bracketing Settings (if applicable) 3. Navigate to the Set Up Menu > Save User Settings > Select Save to U1 or Save to U2 > Save Settings > OK. • This completes the set up for one of the two User Settings. To set up the other user setting simply repeat the steps outlined in this tutorial except change step 5 to the other User Setting to save. • Your camera is now set up to utilize the User Settings. When you go out to take photographs rotate the exposure mode dial to either U1 or U2 and all the settings will be active. • If you want to reset U1 & U2 go to the Set Up Menu > Reset User Settings > select > Reset U2 or Reset U2 > Reset > OK. © Copyright 2014 Tuner Photography All Rights Reservations 4
