3. What do the teenagers on Scilly say about living in a small community? Watch
the programme and take notes.
Discuss in class:






In the programme the policeman says: “It is a bit like living in a fish bowl,
everyone knows everyone.” What do you think about this? Is it good or bad?
Why?
Tom says: “You can’t keep anything a secret!” What does he mean? What do you
think?
When is it good to live in a small community?
When is it bad to live in a small community?
Is your home environment similar to Scilly or is it different? Can you give any
examples?
Amy says: “I want to be on a date with someone I don’t know everything about
already.” What does she mean? Can you relate to this?
B. DEBATE- Living in a big city or on a small island ?
What is positive and negative about living on an island and living in a big city?
Work in groups of four. Two of you want to live on an island and two of you want to live
in a big city. First you need to agree who is supporting city life and who is in favour of
living on an island. Prepare by writing down all the arguments that you can think of to
support your opinion. Use examples from the programme!
C. WRITE AN ESSAY - What makes a good friend?
Write an essay about friendship. If you need some inspiration you may search on the
Internet and read about friendship first. Try to Google the phrase: What makes a good
friend? - see what you find!
