Resident Recipe – This is where you can let some of your cooking
secrets out to the public! All that is required are the ingredients and
preparation advice, but a photo is always nice too! This really spices
up things a bit from the ordinary mac & cheese.
Yard of the Month – If you have an outstanding yard or garden or know a neighbor who does, we want to know about it.
All you have to do is snap a picture and email it to us. Please
include names and the address so we can give you the proper
credit for all your hard work.

Since this magazine is about you and your neighbors, we want and need your involvement. We are
looking for several types of articles to be submitted each month. Please take a few minutes to
acquaint yourself with the types of articles we normally include in the publication. If you have
any other article or story suggestions, please email me.
If you or a family member would like to be featured for any of the stories, just email me at Karen.
[email protected], and I will send you the simple details of submitting the information.
Pictures – WE LOVE PICTURES!!!
This includes pictures of parties, graduations, family events, kids playing, holiday
gatherings, etc. One of the best parts about
your new publication is the involvement
from residents. Pictures are an easy way to
help support the look of the newsletter as
well as bring smiles to your fellow residents.
Digital photographs with high-quality
capability are the way to go here; the more
pixels the better! Simply send an attachment of the pictures in an email to
[email protected].
Neighborhood News – This section features any activity going on in the neighborhood or surrounding area such as parades,
block parties, barbecues, neighborhood
clean-ups, school picnics, fundraisers, pool
parties, or golf events. We want to let you
know what is going on and what has happened with these social events!
Classifieds – Do you have something
that is for sale and would like to get
rid of it?? Just send an email to Karen.
[email protected] with your contact
info and description of the item.
Kids to Kids – Make your kid the rock star
of the neighborhood as we profile a junior
member of the community each month.
Family Spotlight – This is where we get
to spotlight one of the neighborhood
families each month. Have you always
wished you knew your neighbors better?
Well, here is a great way to get to know
them. Each family is able to tell us whatever they would like, but some popular
questions to answer include: How long
have you lived in the neighborhood?
Where is your hometown? What’s your
education? What are your hobbies and
interests? What is your career?
Precious Pets – Here is an award winner! If you have a pet and want them to
be famous, just get them in the Precious
Pets section. Pets are our pride and joy so
let us know who they, and you, are! Past
famous animals have been turtles, rabbits,
birds, horses, dogs, cats, a pig, a hawk and
much more, so have fun with this one.
Athlete Spotlight – Whether you are 4 or 40, a ballerina or a
football player, this section is for you! Sports are a big part of
most people’s lives and we would like to highlight some great
athletes from the neighborhood.
New Arrivals – This is a new section designed to welcome
new babies into the neighborhood as well as congratulate
those proud parents. Please include basic birth information
as well as those baby photos!!
Kids’ Corner – Send in your child’s poem or artwork! Our
goal is to help your neighborhood have the best newsletter
possible. We always keep your needs in mind, so if you know
of anyone, or if you want to fill one of these articles yourself
just make sure you let us know.
Living Spaces – If you have decorated a room in your house and
would like to showcase it with the neighbors, please let us know!
Recognize Your Kids – Parents, do you want another way
to recognize or congratulate your kids about any sport, academic, or other activity achievement? Use your newsletter.
This should include pictures along with what they achieved.
Examples include: Black Belt, honor roll, straight A’s, scholarships, state champs, volunteer work, graduation, music, theatre, or just wish them Happy Birthday.
Travel Tales – If you or anyone you know has gone on a vacation and would like to share their experience, then this is the
place to be. This gives your friends and neighbors the chance to
feel your experience and see if it would be a good fit for their
own vacation! Pictures can be included as well.
Volunteer Spotlight – We want to recognize the hardworking
volunteers of the neighborhood. This is a chance to let others
know about your passion for an organization. Giving back to
the community is a big deal and we want to recognize you for it!

Notes
Neighborhood
By Catherine Haley
Dear Neighbors,
The Ardsley Park Chatham Crescent
Neighborhood Association Board of
Directors is thrilled to be included in this
inaugural issue of Ardsley Living magazine. This is a unique forum for our neighborhood to express ourselves and come
together. As residents of this wonderful,
historic neighborhood we should all be
proud of everything happening here.
Some of the main goals of both this new
magazine, and the Ardsley Park Chatham
Crescent Neighborhood Association, is
to increase awareness of events, new local
businesses, and any issues which may be
uniquely concerning to us in the Ardsley Park/Chatham Crescent area. The
APCCNA also sponsors and organizes
many events throughout the year, many of
which are free and open to all residents. If
you have not already attended one of these
great events, check out our Annual Oyster
Roast next month! You can find more info
on this event listed on the advertisement.
The APCCNA is 100% supported by
membership dues and the generosity of
our neighbors. We maintain a shoe-string
budget, and try to stretch it as far as possible. Each year we throw several events,
including, but certainly not limited to:
Music in the Park concert series
We invite mainly local bands and entertainers to come out and entertain the
community. And, weather willing, everyone brings a picnic and enjoys the music
in one of our lovely parks, and hopefully
meets a new neighbor or two!
Seasonal Movie Nights
A family-friendly movie screened outside,
usually in Teidemann Park. Great for
kids and adults alike!
The Annual Oyster Roast
Our only event that you have to pay for,
but it’s definitely worth it! Once you're in
its all free…music, beverage (of the adult
and regular variety!), and of course oysters
and BBQ! Tickets range from $25 for
members to $35 for non-members.
Holiday Party
Santa, Trolley Rides to see the lights in
the neighborhood, snacks, and festivities…a seriously fun evening for all!
These events are a hit every year, and we
hope to keep doing them for many years
to come. In addition to the events that
we oversee, there is much more behind
the scenes. We have board members who
January
constantly monitor zoning issues, criminal
activity, real estate sales trends, legislative
issues, and just about anything else that
affects our community. We also are very
closely tied to the Garden Club, some of
the truly unsung heroes of our neighborhood. The members of the Garden Club
have been making our parks, lanes, and
sidewalks beautiful for years, in addition
to running the Annual Tour of Homes.
We also distribute a newsletter to our
members via email, but be sure to keep an
eye out for portions of our newsletter in
upcoming issues of this magazine.
The APCCNA Board is very excited to
work in conjunction with N2 Publishing
to reach a larger number of our neighbors, because as of right now less than
1/3 of households in the community
are members. Please take a look at our
membership application at the bottom of
the next page. Yearly dues are only $35/
household! It gives you direct access to
everything happening in your neighborhood, as well as invitations to all of our
events. Every membership counts, and
helps us do more for our community!
If you have any questions, or if you would
like to join, please contact [email protected], or feel free
to contact me directly at caeisenmann@
gmail.com. Again, please consider filling out the membership application. Our
main goal is to make our neighborhood
even better and to continue to foster the
feeling of community that makes Ardsley
Park/Chatham Crescent the best neighborhood in Savannah!
Thank you in advance for helping to
make our community great!

Meet the Hetzels!
C
ody and AJ Hetzel live on the
400 block of E. 50th Street
with their two dogs, Mikimoto
(Carolina Dingo) and The Commodore (American bulldog).
Cody and AJ own and operate The
Mint Green Tag Sale Company, a
full-service estate sale business which
keeps them really busy. They are
brave enough to tackle anyone’s attic
even in the Savannah summers!
When it comes to music, they like an eclectic mix; everything
from Muddy Waters to Dolly Parton.
Being small business owners, they have a busy lifestyle and are
childfree by choice, though they do enjoy spending time with
their niece and nephews.
Get to know your neighbors better by having your family featured in the next available issue! Email us at [email protected].
Some of their favorite activities include
watching NFL Football, traveling, leadership development and
networking with fellow entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Cody is a graduate of Leadership Savannah, and AJ is a graduate of Leadership Southeast Georgia as well as Step-Up Savannah's Neighborhood Leadership Academy.
Mikimoto and The Commodore walk Cody and AJ daily at
McCauley Park down the street from their house. Such good
puppies!
Since they have such a busy schedule these foodies love to eat out a
lot! Some of their favorite restaurants are Green Truck Pub, Moon
River Brewery, and Huc-A-Poo's. Because their schedules are jam
packed with all the business and civic activities they are involved in,
family dinner staples include frozen pizza and take-out.
When they aren’t working, they love cruising and are loyal
Jacksonville Jaguars fans! Don't laugh; they'll be good one
day. Currently their favorite TV shows include Boardwalk
Empire and Hell on Wheels.

Both Alston and Isabel hope to dance with a professional ballet company upon completion of high
school. Alston, who is already attending Columbia
University, would like to major in English. Isabel
also hopes to simultaneously dance for a professional ballet company and go to college.
Alston and Isabel have been dancing since the age of
three. These days, ballet takes up most of their time,
but they both served as acolytes at Christ Church
Episcopal in Savannah when they were younger.
Both girls are avid readers and enjoy fashion.
Their maternal grandmother suggested that Alston audition for the Nutcracker when she was three years old
and Alston was a natural from the beginning. She loved
performing right from the start and loved ballet. Isabel
followed in her footsteps when she was old enough to
begin ballet, and also had a natural affinity for ballet.
Young
Achievers
For the past two summers, Isabel has attended The
School of American Ballet’s summer intensive program
for five weeks in NYC. She has also placed in the
top three at the regional level of the Youth America
Grand Prix (YAGP), the world’s largest ballet scholarship competition. She has qualified twice to compete
at the finals of the YAGP in NYC. Out of thousands
of young dancers competing, she was one of nineteen
twelve-year-olds from around the word and one of only
six American twelve-year-olds to qualify to compete in
the finals of the prestigious competition.
Meet Alston and Isabel Macgill!

Hey kids – do you want to be the superstar of the neighborhood? All you have to do is ask your parents to
email [email protected] and answer some questions in order to be featured in the next available issue!
We live in the house that our father, Frank Macgill, lived in
while he was growing up in Savannah. We bought the house
from his mother, renovated, and moved in. Alston was three
years old and Isabel was just a few weeks old.
The Macgill family members include Frank and Mary-Margaret
Macgill, (married 18 years) and Alston and Isabel Macgill.
We have a large, lazy, eleven-year-old orange tabby cat named
Gwinnett (after Button Gwinnett, one of the Georgia Representatives who signed The Declaration of Independence) and
Wisp, a year-and-a-half-old tortoise shell cat. She is named
after Will o’ the Wisp, a ballet from which excerpts are performed by the New York City Ballet.
Isabel, who is thirteen years old, is a freshman in high school at
Carlisle High School in Carlisle, PA. When she still lived in
Savannah full-time, she attended Esther F. Garrison School of
Visual and Performing Arts. She left home at eleven to seek
pre-professional ballet training. She lived with a ballet teacher
outside Atlanta during the week and came home to Savannah
on weekends. Isabel now attends Central Pennsylvania Youth
Ballet in Carlisle, PA. Many consider this one of the nation’s
best schools for classical ballet training.
Alston (seventeen years old – she just turned 17 in September)
attended Oglethorpe Charter Middle School in Savannah and
is now a freshman at Columbia University, in New York City.
She has lived away from home, attending ballet boarding school
since she was twelve years old. She currently attends The School
of American Ballet, at Lincoln Center in New York City. This
is the ballet school from which the New York City Ballet draws
its members. The New York City Ballet is widely accepted to be
the preeminent ballet company in America.

Alston: “In ballet, I think it is so hard to
say what exactly makes another dancer
unique or special, so it's even harder to
say of myself ! I would definitely say that
I've put in many hours of hard work and
dedication to get to where I am now.”

ABOUT LUFBURROW REALTY CO, LLC
A Tradition of Trust
Alston, who is in her fourth year at
The School of American Ballet (SAB),
was honored to dance the lead role of
Odette, the white swan of the Swan
Lake ballet. This performance was in
May of 2014 at the school’s annual
workshop performance at Lincoln
Center. It was the 50th Anniversary
of the SAB’s workshop performances
and therefore, Alston’s performance was
filmed by Live from Lincoln Center
and will air on PBS this winter.
Alston: “One amazing experience I've
had through ballet is getting to perform
Odette from Swan Lake in the School
of American Ballet's annual Workshop. I
performed a pas de deux (step of two) with
a great partner on stage at Lincoln Center
in New York City. It was such a special
opportunity to be selected to perform a
lead role, and it was also incredibly fun!

The girls on keeping balance and who
they admire:
Alston: “Balance is hard to find, but I
think its key. I would not be able to only
dance all day, no matter how much I love
it. I go to school part time at Columbia
University, and taking fewer courses
makes the workload easier to manage on
top of my ballet schedule. I am also sure
to make time for my friends and myself.”
Isabel: “I try to have a life outside of
dance, even if it means just doing one
thing with my friends every day.”
Alston: “I admire all of my ballet teachers, Veronica Moretti Niebuhr in particular. She's been my teacher and mentor for
as long as I can remember. Veronica has
always pushed me to be my best and want
"more," from my dancing and myself.
She's instilled in me such a strong work
ethic and she showed me by example
what a passion for dance looks like. “
Isabel: “My first ballet teacher, Veronica
Moretti Niebuhr, was an inspiration and
driving force behind my love for ballet.”

Meet Rory – The “Princess of 50th” Street!
By Leah Bell
Hi! My name is Rory and I am a Tricolor
Cavalier King Charles and I am the definition of “Princess.”
The Club has been in existence for many
years. While not listed in the 1971 - 73
Savannah Area Council of Garden Clubs,
Inc. book, it was re-organized in 1973 under
the leadership of Mrs. Shelby Myrick, Sr.
I celebrated by 2nd birthday in October!
I am owned and loved by Leah Bell. She
begged her parents for almost a year until I
was finally delivered as a Christmas present
in 2012. I arrived in Atlanta via Delta Cargo.
I was named after Rory Gilmore, who is a
favorite T.V. character of Leah’s. I can also be
called “Snory Rory” since I tend to breathe
deep when I sleep. I am very talented as well,
I can make the leap into my crate for car trips
without any assistance and I travel just about
everywhere with Leah.
During my house breaking time, Leah ran
out of puppy diapers and I to borrow her
underwear. Very fancy.
Leah has been asked if I am spoiled. She
prefers the term “well-loved.” I am a very
happy dog either way!
Do you have a pet and would like to share his/her story? Then email [email protected] to have them featured in the next available issue! Dogs, cats, horses,
fish, and any other type of animals are welcome!
The members meet monthly in one another's
homes or in a local church from September through May, enjoying
fellowship, gardening information and service. Our objectives are:
To promote interest in the beauty and charm of the Ardsley
Park Area.
To further the education of the members in gardening, landscape
design, civic improvement and conservation of natural resources.
Citizens join by being sponsored by a member and attending
two meetings.
The Club is affiliated with the Georgia State Garden Club
whose mission is: Beautification, Conservation and Education.
In turn, we are also part of the National Garden Clubs of
America with a membership of over 200,000. Their mission is:
Education, Resources, and Participation.
Each year, The Club joins with the Historic Savannah Foundation and Christ Church Anglican to welcome visitors from all
over the country during their house and garden tour. The funds
raised by this event are put back into the neighborhood. Previous projects have included erecting the beautiful period light
fixtures in our many parks, replacing park benches, installing
a pet/people fountain in Tiedeman Park, reconstructing and
repairing the pillars at Washington and Bull, Washington and
Waters, and Abercorn and Victory. We have also contributed
time and funds to further the Victory Drive Project.

YCLE
OF THE MONTH
21
if you would like to have your motorcycle, car or boat featured in next month’s publication, please email
Karen. [email protected]
Meet Jerry Orlikowski
What type/year/model is you
Motorcycle? Why did you choose that
particular bike?
2013 Harley-Davidson CVO Road
King (110th Year Anniversary Limited
Number Model)
I choose this bike because it is a limited
issue bike with a 110 Screaming Eagle
engine.
How long have you been riding and
what got you started?
I started riding dirt bikes in the 1970s
while living in Michigan. When we
moved to Savannah in 2009 and the
weather was so much nicer and I was now
retired, I decided to take a rider course
and purchase a street bike.
Do you ride alone or with friends/spouse?
My wife Barbara rides with me occasionally – mostly we go out to breakfast
at the Squat & Gabble over in SC. I
have two friends that like to ride and
we try to do a 100 +/- mile weekly ride
that includes breakfast or lunch.
What has been your favorite trip while
riding?
We have made two trips to ride the Smoky
Mountains in Northern GA and SC. The
most memorable and exciting ride I have
done is “The Tail of the Dragon” at Deal’s
Gap. I have included a picture of the t-shirt.
That ride is famous in the motorcycle world
and “The Tree of Shame” is located there
for all the crashed parts of those that failed
to successfully make that ride.
Do you belong to any motorcycle clubs?
No but would love to meet other riders in
our neighborhood.
Why do you love riding a motorcycle?
Just like most other riders – for the
freedom and exhilaration it provides.
And because I still have the ability and
balance to ride at 73.
Resident Recipe
Any safety tips you would like to share?
Always, always be alert and watchful of the
cars and trucks that share the road with you.
When riding in a group or with a friend
use one of the rider to rider communication
systems that are available. The cost is well
worth it. Take rider courses and do not ride
above what you believe your skill level is.

returning to its neighborly roots, Savannah
Arts Academy occupying the formerly closed
Savannah High School, the area has become
the charming neighborhood once again.
HISTORY Ardsley
OF
By Stathy Stathopoulos
Before the evolution and modernization of malls, shopping centers and the one stop shopping stores, there were
the neighborhood convenience stores. Transportation was in its infancy and folks relied on public transportation
or simply walked everywhere. Small businesses were located in the heart of neighborhoods which provided the
day-to-day necessities and were the lifeline for the folks in neighborhoods.
This wonderful old building located on
the corner of 48th and Habersham Street
is now home to Yia Yia’s Kitchen. This
building has housed a variety services
for folks in the neighborhood for nearly
a century. It was built sometime in the
early twenties and has been a staple in the
Ardsley Park neighborhood since.
Based on stories my father Atha Stathopoulos shared about this building, my
Great Uncle Efstathios Stathopoulos
who emigrated from Greece was the
catalyst to the buildings location. The
first businesses housed were Well’s Pharmacy on the corner, Atlantic & Pacific
Grocery Store (better known as A&P
grocery store) in the middle and the end
was a barber shop. Over the years, A&P
moved to several locations including 39th
& Price then before closing their doors at
the corner of Abercorn & Victory.
Many businesses have served the community over the years at this location; Phar-
macies, grocery, barber shops, convenience
stores, church offices, a jewelry store, beauty solon, pet groomer, financial/investment
firm, a real estate company and caterer.
The most prominent and memorable businesses that I recall (you may as well) operating in this building were Oliver Drugs
on the corner and Little “J” in the middle
store. Owners of Oliver Drugs, Dr. & Mrs.
Woody Oliver, lived above the stores for
around 30 or so years. The Little “J” was a
convenience store run by Johnny Constantine and was a very popular hangout for
the Savannah High School and Charles
Ellis School students. My own children
have the fondest memories of their Papou
(Greek for grandfather) taking them after
church on Sundays for slushies there.
During the early to middle 1920s, Savannah’s city limits ended somewhere between
50th & 54th Street. Along Habersham
Street ran a trolley car from the end of
the city to the heart of downtown Savan-
nah. Ardsley Park was part of the original
Southside until Savannah expanded its city
limits to Stephenson Avenue and eventually
to the Bull River by the Savannah Mall.
When you drive or walk around Ardsley
Park, Baldwin Park, Daffin Park and
surrounding areas, you will find many
buildings that are still standing and
operated by small businesses. This is
a testament of a time when folks were
neighbors and small businesses were a
big part of life in the neighborhoods.
I recall the stories my father shared with
me and witnessing the changes I have seen
growing up around the Ardsley Park and
Baldwin Park area, it is funny how things
have changed but have now come back
full circle. Savannah High School was the
most prominent high school in Savannah, a fixture in Ardsley Park and where
many folks graduated from. The school
later closed and the neighborhood was is
decline. With rejuvenation having taken
place over the years and Ardsley Park
This building, owned by my family since it
was built, has played a major role in the Ardsley Park/Chatham Crescent providing many
services and necessities as a staple within the
neighborhood. My goal is to continue the
legacy of all the small businesses that have
once provided for the Ardsley Park neighbors
and all folks of Savannah.
Savannah has become very diverse with ethnicities and different cultures, and the emergence
of specialty food stores throughout Savannah,
however there was the absences of real authentic Greek, Mediterranean and European foods.
To me, Ardsley Park with its wonderful folks
and other surrounding neighbors exemplifies
the true essence of what neighborhoods and
small businesses were and have always been
about. That is why, we decided to open Yia Yia’s Kitchen in our Ardsley Park building and hopefully bring something special to the neighborhood.
Yia Yia’s Kitchen is an authentic Greek, Mediterranean and European bakery deli
& grocery store business. We definitely want to thank everyone in Ardsley Park
and Savannah for embracing and welcoming Yia Yia’s Kitchen to the neighborhood. Everyone is always invited and welcomed to visit Yia Yia’s Kitchen on the
corner of 48th and Habersham St.

RUTH’S CHRIS STEAKHOUSE
Ardsley Living hosted its first social event
at upscale Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse,
November 3rd. Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse
is located at 111 W. Bay Street. It is the
largest luxury steakhouse in the United
States and is open for dinner to the public
as well as private dining managed by Randi Hempel, Sales and Marketing Manager.
We had some fantastic fare! The beef
skewers were the biggest hit. Each bite was
perfectly cooked and deliciously seasoned.
USDA prime steak seared at 1800° Fahrenheit with just a touch of butter…..yum.
Nobody does steak like Ruth’s Chris!
Other favorites were the stuffed mushrooms and chilled asparagus with spicy dipping sauce. Our bartenders were so attentive and very talented at entertaining, creating drinks ordered off the vintage-inspired
cocktail selection. If you love wine, Ruth’s
Chris is the place to go. The wine cellar
boasts over 200 different types of wines,
many available by the glass, and will nicely
accompany and entrée you wish; steak,
shrimp, chicken, fish, lamb or lobster.
Ruth’s Chris uses only the freshest and
finest ingredients, like USDA Prime
Our party was in the Red Piano Lounge
and it was cozy and elegant and a great
place to make some new connections.
Ruth’s Chris is a great place for a group
event or gathering or special occasions.
Exactly what you would expect from an
upscale restaurant such as Ruth’s Chris.
All of the residents gave it 5 stars and are
looking forward to another visit!
Fun Fact: How did they get the name? Chris
Steak House was founded on February 27,
1927 by New Orleans entrepreneur Chris
Matulich. It seated 60 people, and had no
parking lot. In 1965, divorced single mother
Ruth Fertel, realizing she needed to earn
more money to send her teenage sons to
college, mortgaged her house to purchase
the restaurant, On her first day, May 24,
1965, she sold 35 steaks at $5 each.
Fertel personally took a hand in every part
of the business. She had to teach herself
how to butcher steak, and despite being
just five-foot-two and 110-pounds, would
saw up 30-pound short loins by hand until
she could afford an electric band saw. She
staffed her restaurant with single mothers, saying that they were hard workers
and reliable. For many years, Chris' Steak
House was the only upscale restaurant in
New Orleans with an all-female wait staff.
In early 1976, shortly after signing a
new ten-year lease on the restaurant, a
fire destroyed the building. Fertel had
recently acquired a second property
nearby to rent out as party space. Within
seven days, she had relocated the restaurant to its new location a few blocks
29
away and re-opened it, expanding to 160
seats in the process. The sales agreement
with Matulich prevented her from using
the original name at any other address,
so she named the new restaurant Ruth's
Chris Steak House in order to keep some
continuity with the previous location. She
admitted later to Fortune Magazine, "I've
always hated the name, but we've always
managed to work around it."
Ardsley Living would like to thank
Randi and the Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse
staff for a great evening!

WOMEN MUST KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT
FROM SOCIAL SECURITY
Everyone needs to be aware of the financial resources
they will have available in retirement. But if you’re a
woman, you must be particularly diligent, for a variety
of reasons. And that means you’ll need to know just
what to expect from Social Security.
Why should you, as a woman, pay extra attention to Social
Security? For one thing, women often take time off from their
careers to care for children and older parents, so they may accumulate less money in employer-sponsored retirement accounts,
such as 401(k) plans. And women still live several years longer
than men, according to the Census Bureau.
Clearly, then, you need to get the most you can from Social Security. To do so, you will need to consider at least three key factors:
This article was written by Edward Jones for use by your local Edward Jones Financial Advisor.
Will You Get the Most
from Your
Social Security Benefits?
Deciding when to take your social security benefits is one
of the most important retirement decisions you’ll ever
make. It will likely be an essential component of your
retirement income strategy, so it’s important to determine
what factors will determine your benefit amount. Your
informed decisions on timing, spousal benefits and other
factors can make a significant difference on the lifetime
benefits you receive.
Lean about your social security options
and the effect they have on your overall
retirement income strategy.

the top benefits of
AGE — You can start
taking retirement benefits as early as 62, but your
benefits may be reduced by up to 30% unless
you wait until your “full retirement age,” which is likely 66 or
67. If you delay taking benefits until 70, your monthly benefits
may be up to a third larger than if you started collecting Social
Security at your full retirement age. You’ll need to weigh a variety of factors, such as family longevity, income from employersponsored retirement plans and your anticipated financial needs,
in determining when you should start taking Social Security.
Grass-Fed
food
Article Source: www.healthguidance.org
When thinking about nutrition you can
get pretty deep thinking about all the
factors that ultimately result in how
healthy your diet is and how much you're
going to benefit from it. The rabbit hole
goes as deep as you want it to and if you
aren't careful you can get lost in a sea of
health advice and quackery.
EMPLOYMENT — If you work while receiving Social Security
benefits before you reach full retirement age, your benefits will
be reduced by $1 for every $2 you earn over an annual limit,
which generally increases each year. In the year you reach full
retirement age, your benefits will be reduced by $1 for every $3
you earn over the limit before your birthday. But once you reach
full retirement age, your benefits will no longer be adjusted for
earned income.
MARITAL STATUS — As a spouse, you can generally receive Social
Security payments based on your own earnings record or collect
a spousal benefit of up to 50% of your husband's Social Security
benefit. The benefit will be reduced if you start taking it before
your full retirement age. To start collecting Social Security spousal benefits, you must be at least 62 years old and your husband
must also have filed for his own benefits.
No matter how much Social Security you ultimately receive,
it’s almost certainly not going to be enough to provide all the
income you’ll need. So during your working years, try to contribute as much as you can to your IRA and your 401(k) or
other employer-sponsored retirement plan. At the same time,
look for other investment opportunities. And when you reach
retirement, create a withdrawal strategy that allows you to
stretch out the income you receive from your investments for as
long as you can.
By saving and investing as much as possible during your working years, maximizing your Social Security payments and carefully managing your financial assets when you’re retired, you can
help improve your chances of enjoying the retirement lifestyle
you deserve.

For example, you might spend a lot of
time thinking about what you eat, but
how much time do you spend thinking
about what that ate?
Why Grass-Fed?
When a cow eats, this provides it with
the raw materials its body uses to convert
into tissues. Literally cows 'are what they
eat', and thus when you eat them, you get
more or less nutritional value based on
what they had been fed.
When it comes to selecting a cow's diet,
farmers will pick one of two options. The
first is grass, and the second is grains.
And the general consensus is that those
cows fed with grass will benefit you more
in terms of nutrition.
Look at it this way: cows evolved eating grass and wouldn't likely have had
much access to grains of any kind in the
wild. As such, grass will naturally contain all of the things necessary to promote optimal health, and that means
that those cows will be better for your
health in turn.
The Health Benefits of Grass-Fed Beef
Cows that eat grass will have a higher
content of omega 3 fatty acid as compared
with cows fed with grains. Specifically,
grass-fed beef contains roughly 2-5 times
more omega 3 than grain-fed which could
help to reduce blood pressure, arthritis,
depression and asthma while also supporting healthy brain function.
The content of saturated fat in grass-fed
beef is also superior. Grass-fed contains
higher levels of stearic acid with lower
amounts of palmitic and myristic acid.
All you need to know is that this is marginally better for cholesterol.
Grass-fed beef is also higher in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Carotenoids
for instance (a precursor to vitamin A)
are found in high quantities in grass and
not at all in grains. Thus grass-fed beef
will contain more carotenoids in their
tissue which means you'll get more carotenoids when you eat them.
Appearance
Did you know that you can actually tell
whether a steak came from grass-fed or
grain-fed beef just by looking at it? This
proves just how true it is that 'you are
what you eat' and it makes for a good
party trick when eating out.
The carotenoids in grass for instance are
partly what give it its color, which is why
a cow that has eaten lots of grass will
actually result in a slightly yellower steak.
This makes it appear also slightly lighter
though you might have to see two sideby-side in order to tell.
It's also true that grass-fed steak tends
to have a slightly healthier looking glaze
on top – you can literally see that the
steak is healthier.
