Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
January 18, 2015
In the written scroll it is prescribed for me,
to do Your Will, O my God, is my delight, and Your law is within my heart!”
Dear Parish Family,
Like all families as the years
pass the torch is passed from
one generation to the next. It is in
this light that we as a parish wish
to say thank you to express our
profound gratitude to Deacon L
Ferris Bell for his years of
dedicated service. As many of
you know Dcn. Ferris,
accompanied by his son-in-law,
Bob Ward went to visit his daughter Audrey Ward in
Lancaster, PA for the holidays. While he was visiting and
two days before his 88th birthday Dcn. Ferris suffered
several strokes. He did not suffer any permanent damage
and spent several weeks in a care facility for rehabilitation.
He also received a pace maker that has resulted in a
steady heart rate and more energy. Dcn. Ferris now
resides with his daughter and son-in-law in Pennsylvania.
Deacon Ferris was ordained a Permanent Deacon on
May 28, 1988. Deacon Ferris was the first deacon to serve
St .Gregory the Great Parish alongside his beloved wife
Glenna Bell. Glenna was a talented musician and was our
first music director playing the piano and organ. Glenna
passed away on Dcn. Ferris’s birthday November 26,
2003. In his years at St. Gregory the Great Dcn. Ferris
ministered to those parishioners most in need of God’s
Grace; the sick and the homebound. The son of a
protestant preacher he loved to preach and teach the faith.
If you would like to contact Dcn. Ferris or send him a
card he can be reached at:

Stewardship Bulletin Reflection
1 Sm 3: 3B-10, 19; Ps 40: 2, 4, 7-10; 1 Cor 6: 13C-15A, 17-20; Jn 1: 35-42
A popular hymn used in many Catholic churches is Here I am Lord.
That hymn is based in part on our first reading from the Book of Samuel. The Lord wants us to respond just the way Samuel does in the reading. God calls each of us to discipleship through lives of stewardship . .
. That is not always easy and it can be uncomfortable at times. Eli instructs Samuel to respond “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.”
Samuel does so and “the Lord was with him.”
Our challenge is first to hear God’s call. It is there always, but we
must listen for it. Then we need to respond to that call, and we need to
respond in ways that show we recognize that the call is to service and
the call is for us to be disciples . . . God calls each of us by name. We
need to hear that as Samuel did, and we need to respond as Samuel
did, “Here I am Lord. I come to do your will.”
Ps 40: 8-9
Pray with the Bishops to End Abortion
9 Days for life: January 17– 25.
Your prayers matter. Your sacrifices make a difference!
On January 22 our nation will mark the 42nd anniversary of Roe
v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal
throughout the U.S. Since that tragic decision, more than 56
million children's lives have been lost to abortion, and many
suffer that loss -- often in silence. Join thousands of Catholics
across the country coming together in prayer for a "culture of life" from
Saturday, January 17 - Sunday, January 25! If you’re starting after
January 17, it’s okay!

Considering a Catholic Education for your child?
Tour our Campus- Meet our Teachers- Shop the Book Fair
In two weeks we will join with Catholic schools
across the nation in the 41st annual celebration of
Catholic Schools Week. This year’s theme is “Catholic
Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and
Service.” The 2015 theme encompasses several
concepts that are at the heart of Catholic education. Not only are
schools communities themselves, they are part of larger communities
of home, church, city, and nation. Faith, knowledge, and service are
integral components of a Catholic education, which set Catholic
schools apart from other educational options. We hope you can spend
some time with us on Sunday, January 25 at our annual Open House &
Book Fair. This is a unique opportunity to visit the classrooms, meet the
teachers, students and families at our parish school. All are welcome!
In fulfillment of our mission and commitment to the whole child, our
school is delighted to offer a variety of after-school enrichment
programs this semester. Young Engineers®- LEGO CHALLENGE
offers theoretical knowledge and practical implementation in Science,
Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) basics
through the use of motorized LEGO® bricks. We are also offering a
Public Speaking/Debate Class as an after school enrichment program.
Partnering with the Rose Debate Institute, our students will learn about
the finer points of public speaking to include delivery, gestures, haptics,
body language, and monologue. Piano, voice, guitar, Cheer, Monart®,
and after school sports are also offered this semester.
Please keep our eighth grade students in your prayers as they
continue to prepare to take the High School Placement Tests this
month.

Our Lady of Angels
Please remember to bring
your canned goods and foods donations
to Mass each Sunday, to help
Our Lady of Angels. May God
Bless your generosity abundantly
always!
Also, please note that the Sister Parish Outreach
Ministry will NOT be holding our annual rummage sale
due to the Parish Hall construction schedule. We are
planning to hold a fundraiser later in the year. Thank you
for your continued support for our ministry, which benefits
the struggling families of our sister parish. They are so
very grateful for all that our generous parish provides.
Sunday Nursery
Are you looking for childcare
during the 9 A.M. or 11 A.M. Mass?
Look no further! St. Gregory the Great has a
parent-run nursery on Sundays for children
ages 1-5. One parent and 1 or 2 teens entertain your children

2015 March for the Right to Life
The March for Life began as a small demonstration and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that
has followed on this somber anniversary every year since 1973 is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time,
abortion.
