January 2015
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope everyone has enjoyed a restful
vacation and a Happy New Year! For
those of you traveling, I wish you a safe
journey to your destination.
Sometimes family vacations occur when
school is in session, resulting in students
being absent. In those circumstances,
parents often have questions as to what is
expected in terms of lost instructional
time. I hope that the following considerations will be helpful:
The instruction and learning that occurs
on a daily basis in the classroom is central to our mission. The tasks that are
assigned and completed during class
generally cannot be duplicated through
outside activities or assignments.
Classroom interactions, and the learning
that occurs through them, form the basis
for homework assignments. It is difficult
to anticipate how these interactions will
affect homework assignments when a
child is absent for an extended period.
Said another way, teachers plan assignments in advance but will regularly make
changes in response to a class’s particular instructional needs. As a result, during the course of several days of instruction, assignments may change dramatically.
depending on the nature of the assignments and work missed. Students are expected to make up all
assignments within a reasonable
timeframe, and teachers will make
appropriate efforts to support them
on their behalf. Our teachers continue to be committed to the success of
all of our students.
Parents should make every effort to
plan family vacations during school
recesses. In the event that that is not
possible, it is important to recognize
that it is the parents’ responsibility
and their children’s responsibility to
make up missed work and assignments.
Thank you for your cooperation and
ongoing support.
Sincerely,
Dennis DesRosiers

Procedure For Reporting An
Absence / Tardy
Absences from school for any reason should be reported by phone on the day of absence and each successive day the child is
out of school. Please call the Health & Attendance Office at 336-3030 before 9 a.m. to report your child absent. Please leave
your child’s name, his/her teacher’s name and the reason they are not attending. Please keep your child home from school
until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. When your child returns to school
a written note is required by law.
If your child will be late for school for any reason, please also notify the Health & Attendance Office at 336-3030 prior to 9
a.m. When your child arrives at school, a written note is required.
This procedure is used to make sure we know where your child is at all times. Calling the Attendance Line prior to 9
a.m. will help eliminate calls to parents. Also, we are required to have a written excuse on file for all student absences, tardiness or early dismissals as part of their permanent record.
Rogers Ice-skating club is coming!
It will run on five consecutive Tuesdays starting on February 24, 2015, and
runs to March 24, 2015.
The cost is $25.00. This includes all five skating sessions, skate rental and bus transportation to Lakeshore Hockey Arena and back to Rogers.
Information packets and permission slips will be handed out in homeroom on Monday,
January 26, 2015 . If your student is interested in joining, complete per mission slips
along with check or cash must be handed in by Thursday, January 29, 2015 by
9:00 a.m. (No permission slips or money will be accepted after 11:00 a.m.).
To maintain safety for our students, please do not park in the bus loop on skating
days:
Tuesday, February 24, March 3, March 10, March 17 and March 24, 2015.
Thank you!
Mrs. DeNinnis
Any questions or concerns please call Mrs. DeNinnis at 336-3075.
