This Australia Day sit back and relax with a snag and a beer and take a
look back at the Aussie cultural icon - triple j.
The story of triple j is the story of a recalcitrant Australian teenager
growing up, adapting to, and impacting upon a very different world to
the one in which it was born. From the station's anarchic beginnings in
1975 as Sydney's alternative radio station, Double J, to its restructuring
and controversial rebranding as it went national as triple j in the 90s, to
its role in unearthing new talent and staging major music events for the nation's youth.
We also look back at the station's first female DJs Gayle Austin and Keri Phillips; the controversial radio
documentary Ins and Outs of Love; at Fuck the Police - the song that shut down the station due to its
explicit lyrics and themes; Jen Oldershaw's disastrous interview with Nirvana; and the debate about triple
j's playlist as the station continues to field criticism for what it plays and what it doesn't.
This tale of triple j is told by a stellar line-up of the larger-than-life characters - DJs, managers, producers,
comedy duos, and music stars from the 70s to now. We hear behind-the-scenes anecdotes from Roy &
HG, Jono & Dano, Gotye, Missy Higgins, Daniel Johns, Wil Anderson, Adam Spencer, Myf Warhurst, Hilltop
Hoods, Peter Garrett, Mikey Robins, Helen Razer plus many more, who share their stories of what it was
like working at this iconic station.
With a pumping soundtrack evoking the mood of each decade, Sounds Like Teen Spirit explores how one
small radio station became the finger on the pulse of a burgeoning Australian youth culture and
revolutionalised the cultural landscape for a new generation.

Follows the lives of sister and brother, Hannah and Dan, who share a flat
as they look to lead easy lives and end up causing utter chaos.
In the third episode, Hannah's best friend from university, Sadie, has
returned from travelling and Hannah could not be more excited. Dan,
however, couldn't care less - he's planning to watch all the Liam Neeson
films back to back, or as he calls it, ‘The Liam Neeson Seeson’.
But Sadie has a surprise for Hannah - she's engaged. Her fiancé Rich is funny, charming and full of
anecdotes about his time as a vet tending to animals in exotic faraway countries. Hannah, naturally, hates
him and so decides to remind Sadie how good her life was before she met Rich - when she was hanging
out with her at uni.
Rich offers Dan a receptionist's job at his vet practice but Dan gets overly involved in the animals'
wellbeing, taking matters into his own hands.

Story Club is a comedy show with a difference. Think stand-up, but
sitting down. Then add a narrative. Sophisticated and hilarious, Story
Club brings together Australia's finest raconteurs -including stand-up
comics, novelists, journalists, commentators, poets and musicians - to
create an event that is both funny and unexpected.
Hand-picked from the live event of the same name, each episode of
Story Club features two stories that are sometimes alarming and
ultimately revealing - but are always entertaining and always true.
Created by Zoë Norton Lodge and Ben Jenkins and held at the Giant Dwarf Theatre, the live event is a
themed storytelling night where some of Australia's best storytellers gather in front of an audience to
reveal their funniest stories, darkest moments and their shameful secrets, all while sitting in a stupidly
ornate chair and reading from an awkwardly large book.
During series one, the storytellers will share stories about coming out, staging one's own death, mistaken
identity and accidental assault, cousin love, what it means to be Australia's favourite bastard and what
happens when you revisit your travel diaries from 50 years ago.
As well as stories about drunken Santas and fraudulent Jamie Olivers, there are tales of sexy mishaps with
cleaners, terrifyingly experimental coppers, grandmas with axes to grind and geriatrics arm wrestling for
beer.
The stories are vulnerable, they're confronting and they're damn funny.
Episode four: Wednesday, January 28 at 10.00pm
Necessity is the mother of invention when David Cunningham begins to explore his early inklings of
homosexuality in a terrifying pre-digital world. Childhood was rough for Alex Lee too, who once had to
take off her Geography teacher's pants.

A modern comedy in an ancient setting, Plebs follows three desperate
young men from the suburbs as they try to get laid, hold down jobs and
climb the social ladder in the big city - a city that happens to be Ancient
Rome.
The show focuses on Marcus (Tom Rosenthal), Stylax (Joel Fry) and their
lazy slave with an attitude problem, Grumio (Ryan Sampson). There's
also the boys' ruthless boss, Flavia - an expert manipulator with a
private life that's the stuff of legend.
Unlikely to be immortalised in the annals or memorialised in a frieze, Marcus, Stylax and Grumio are
essentially just a bunch of Plebs.
And whether they're wearing togas, or skinny jeans, desperate young men in any period of history are
essentially cut from the same cloth...
This week, to endear himself to Cynthia, Marcus befriends a mangy cat which he's rescued from the
courtyard. Stylax is suffering from a disturbing itch and visits a sexual health clinic where he falls for an
attractive nurse.
