Pastoral Ponderings
What a wonderful and joyous Christmas Season it has been. It began, for me, with watching our children perform a very special and meaningful Christmas play, and I would like to offer a big “thank you” to Rebekah
Bouye, Sharon Witherell, and all those that helped make this event so special and wonderful. Next, we celebrated the coming Christ child through the gifts and talents of our music department. Our choirs, both the
young and more experienced, and both hand bell choirs, all did a magnificent job. Through your performance, you guided our hearts and minds to rejoice with the Holy Family at the manger. Thank you again to all
our choirs, our hand bell ringers, and all of our music and arts directors and volunteers. My hope is that all of
you experienced the wonder and magic of this Christmas season.
But, as we look forward, we are encountered with a new season called Epiphany. So what exactly is
“Epiphany?” According to www.christianity.about.com, the following is a description of what Epiphany day
means:
Epiphany, also known as "Three Kings Day" and "Twelfth Day," is a Christian holiday commemorated on January 6. It falls on the twelfth day after Christmas, and for some denominations signals the conclusion of the twelve days of the Christmas season. Though many different
cultural and denominational customs are practiced, in general, the feast celebrates the manifestation of God in the form of human flesh through Jesus Christ, his Son.
The word epiphany means “manifestation” or “revelation" and is commonly linked in Western
Christianity with the visit of the wise men (Magi) to the Christ child. Through the Magi, Christ
revealed himself to the gentiles. In Eastern Christianity, Epiphany puts emphasis on the baptism of Jesus by John, with Christ revealing himself to the world as God's own Son. Likewise,
on Epiphany some denominations commemorate Jesus' miracle of turning water into wine, signifying the manifestation of Christ's divinity as well.
Unlike Christmas, where we focus on the human side of Emanuel (God in the flesh), the season of Epiphany
focuses our hearts and minds around the divine side of the man called Jesus. {Please remember that Jesus is
both 100% man, and 100% divine.} Epiphany is a season that can be as short as two weeks, or as long as
eight weeks; depending on the place of Easter Day. Within this season of celebration lies two very important
festivals: The Baptism of our Lord Day – which is the first Sunday after the Epiphany on January 6, and
Transfiguration Day – which falls on the last Sunday of Epiphany right before Ash Wednesday.
For the Church, this season is about light; the coming light of the world that no darkness could ever overcome. It is about understanding our call from God to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world in our
own communities, and it is about the continuing revelation of God to this hurting world.
As we approach Epiphany, my prayer is that you may have many opportunities to be this light, and may you
shine brightly for this dark world to see. May God continue to reveal Himself to you through His Son Jesus,
and may you be transfigured by His glorious and magnificent light.
And may you always remember your call and charge at your baptism. “Let your light shine before others,
so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Wade

On behalf of the West Columbia Police Department, I would like
to extend my sincere Thank You for your generous donation of
$750 towards our Department’s 18th Annual Food Drive. It is
because of people like yourselves that the West Columbia Police
Department can make a positive impact on the citizens we serve
and protect through are many community programs. Your donation will help go towards a needy family within our city so they
can also enjoy a special Thanksgiving Dinner with a little extra
food. So many of our children only eat school lunches, so we are
giving a little extra this year to make sure they will have something to eat every day they are not at school.

We thank you all for our welcome and for your years of prayerful
support. It was a joy to worship with you all. Thank you very
much for the check from the church, too. We know you continue
to support ELCA Global Missionaries and we thank you. It was
fun to meet so many in your congregation. We keep you all in our
thoughts and prayer always. Thank you, Thank you!
Love and Peace,
Janey & Ted Zimmerman
Sincere thanks to all who sent cards, prayed for me and visited
me while I was in the hospital and in Agape. I am so blessed to
have such a wonderful church family for my friends. Bless you
all.

The staff at Mt. Tabor would like to express their sincere gratitude for the Christmas bo‐
nuses that were given out this past holiday season! Words cannot begin to express how much your thoughtfulness meant to each of us! May God bless Mt. Tabor in a mighty way this New Year! We would also like to extend a special thank you to those who took the time to bring us individual gifts– be it baked goods, fruit, greeting cards… each gift meant so much to us all ! “Serving for Jesus’ Sake”
