The Parish Eucharist “Cana Sunday” St Matthew’s, Perry Beeches 2015 The Introit The Lord be with you And also with you At the Crib Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, but little Lord Jesus no crying he makes. I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky, and stay by my side until morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay close by me for ever, and love me I pray. Bless all the dear children in thy tender care, and fit us for heaven to live with thee there. Hymn 757 One more step Prayer for Today Almighty God, in Christ you make all things new: transform the poverty of our nature by the riches of your grace, and in the renewal of our lives make known your heavenly glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 2 The Gospel John 1.35 - 2.11 John was standing with Andrew and another of his disciples. They saw Jesus and John exclaimed, John B: Behold the Lamb of God! So the disciples followed Jesus. Jesus: What are you looking for? Andrew: Rabbi, where are you staying? Jesus: Come and see. They came and stayed with him that day. Andrew went and got his brother Simon Andrew: We have found the Messiah He brought Simon to Jesus Jesus: Simon son of John, you are to be called Peter The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip Jesus: Follow me. Philip went and got Nathanael Philip: We have found the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. Nathanael: Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip: Come and see Jesus saw Nathanael coming Jesus: Behold a true, honest Israelite Nathanael: How do you know about me? Jesus: I saw you under the fig tree. Nathanael: Rabbi you are the Son of God! King of Israel! Jesus: Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these. Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man. Refrain The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ Now standing there were six stone water-jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, ‘Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.’ So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, ‘Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.’ Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. 4 Offertory Hymn 104 Songs of thankfulness & praise During which the collection is taken, and bread & wine are brought to the altar The Great Thanksgiving & Communion The Lord be with you And also with you Lift up your hearts We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give thanks and praise The priest gives thanks for God’s glory and goodness Holy, holy, holy, God of angel hosts Glory, glory, glory fills the universe Blessed is he who leaps from heav’n to earth Jesus, our “hosanna” Holy, holy Lord We recall Jesus’s Last Supper 5 Great is the mystery of faith: Child of Bethlehem and Man of Galilee Healer, Master, Friend and Lamb of Calvary Host of our Mass, Companion on the Way Risen from the dead, alive with us for ay The prayer concludes: Amen!
