THOUGHTS IN A ROW
On Monday we observe the MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. holiday. We are still learning lessons about non-violence, and putting
aside our prejudices as we work for a more loving, tolerant and supportive world. There will be a Mass in the chapel of the
Parish Center at 9:00 AM, Monday.
This whole week is a time for PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY. We unite with all Christians who reflect the prayer of Jesus
that “…they all be one…” We also pray with those who aren’t Christian and join with them in our common desire for peace and
justice. Our world seems to continue to find ways of creating discord and war. Some of it flows from poverty and the misuse of
wealth. Keep praying.
This Thursday, January 22, is the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that we continue to fight. We continue to pray for
the legal protection of our unborn. Since we believe in the dignity of all human life and the beauty of all God’s creation, we show
due respect for everything that exists.

where he is staying, etc., and commit themselves to Jesus. What
Christian practice of discipleship has deepened my faith and
commitment, leading me to a sense of God with and in me?

Simon and Andrew drop what they are doing to follow Jesus and
become “fishers of men.” Where am I in my journey as a disciple of

In Memoriam
Let us keep members of our parish in our thoughts and prayers
especially Evelyn Norgaard, mother of Neil Norgaard, and
Richard Kocon who have recently died. Let the grace of our
prayers enfold the families and friends of these parishioners as
they mourn the loss of their loved ones.

2015 CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL
“Be Imitators of Christ.”
The 2015 Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) is underway. The
Board of Directors of the Catholic Services Appeal Foundation
thanks all who contributed in 2014 to this organization that is
raising funds to support CSA funded ministries.
The Appeal funds services that no one parish or individual can
do alone and these services must go on despite these troubled
times in our archdiocese. It is important to know that contributions to the Catholic Services Appeal are being used for the
benefit of designated ministries of the Appeal. Please visit the

Many of our parishioners will soon receive or have already
received a mailing from the Catholic Services Appeal Foundation requesting your support of the 2015 Catholic Services Appeal. Please respond generously. When you give to the Catholic
Services Appeal you provide food and shelter, education, spiritual support, and sacraments to individuals who are in need,
disabled, imprisoned, hospitalized, or in nursing homes.
This year, the theme of the Appeal is: “Be Imitators of Christ”.

the funded ministries to reach out and demonstrate Christ’s love
to many, many people in need. Funds given to the Catholic

SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR EBOLA
At each Mass this weekend, January 17 & 18, we are all invited
to give to a special offering which will support those affected
by the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. These funds will be used
by Catholic Relief Services and other various partners to meet
the most urgent needs facing people in West Africa who have
been exposed to the disease. Checks may be made payable to
the Church of St. Timothy, and marked “Ebola”.

FAITH FORMATION & ENRICHMENT
EARLY CATHOLIC FAMILY LIFE
The winter session of our Early Catholic Family Life program
will begin Thursday, February 19, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. This
is a seven week program. ECFL was developed in 2000 and
patterned after the highly successful Minnesota ECFE (Early
Childhood Family Education) program. ECFL is a parentchild program that assists parents of children, birth to age five,
with the tools they need to teach their children the Catholic
faith. We ask that you pre-register for the program. If you are
interested, or have any questions, call Robbie Raaen at the Parish Office. There is no charge for the program.
LENT: INFORM, REFORM, TRANSFORM
Jesus went out into the desert; we can go out on a limb! For a
new way of being informed, reformed, and transformed by the
Scriptures, join a Lenten Faith-Sharing group to focus on the
Sunday Mass readings written in contemporary American English. Our resource, This Transforming Word, is just $10 and
contains the readings, commentary, and reflection questions for
every Sunday in the cycle B church year (and can be used for
every cycle B through 2024)!
Lots of options for being in a group: (1) revive your Lenten
group from last year; (2) be in—or form—a new group, (3)
incorporate this resource with your existing GoodNewsPeople
group, or (4) read and discuss informally with a friend. And, if
you are unable to be in a group, but would like to use this book
on your own, we would be happy to order a book for you—just
indicate that when you sign up. Lenten Groups kick-off with a
large group meeting for everyone on the morning of Sunday,
February 15th, right after the 8:30 a.m. Mass in room 224.
Be sure to sign up by February 1st by stopping by or calling

The Catholic Women’s Conference “A Heart Drawn by Love: Sent
on Fire” will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the Church of
the Epiphany in Coon Rapids, 8:00 am - 2:00 p.m. Experience a day of

With fundraising we are hoping to spend very little per teen
to go.
• Keep February 7th open as we will go to NET Ministries
LIFELINE in West St. Paul. There will be Mass, a speaker,
and snacks. It is a great Saturday event with over 1000 teens
from the archdiocese coming and afterwards we can get
something to eat at Applebee's.
• We have a high school retreat upon us! February 20-22nd we
will have a high school retreat in Osceola Wisconsin. We
will be partnering up with John the Baptist in New Brighton
and have a weekend retreat. Cost is normally $99 dollars but
we will only charge $60 a teen. This includes transportation,
meals, and a place to sleep. For more info contact

FR. GEORGE KOLATH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
High School Seniors - If you are interested in applying for the Father
George Kolath Memorial Scholarship, there will be a brief, but helpful,
meeting on Wednesday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 221 at the
parish center. Parents are also invited to attend. Applications will be on
hand and you can also download them from our website
www.churchofsttimothy.com.
Graduating high school seniors who are a registered member of St.
Tim’s and a confirmed Catholic with a minimum of 40 hours community/parish volunteer service (beyond those required for Confirmation)
during high school years are eligible. Applicants must also be involved
in some service ministry at St. Tim’s and provide 2 letters of recommendation – with at least one from a person knowledgeable about your
parish service. An official sealed high school transcript is also needed
with the application. Scholarships are usually awarded to 3 or 4 deserving graduating seniors planning to pursue further education next year—
one of them could be you! The application deadline is April 1, 2015 –
but now is the time to start working on that application form! Please

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH
Wouldn’t it be fun to jump around like crazy? Yes!! – Join
us for a chance to do that at Zero Gravity on Wednesday,
January 21, 6:00-7:30 p.m. in Mounds View. Join other St.
Tim’s youth for an hour of jumping, followed by a 30 minute
cool down with pizza and cupcakes. Cost is $10.
Turn in a signed permission slip, the fee & a Zero Gravity
waiver (on our website or fill it out on Zero Gravity’s website.
Due in the office by Monday, Jan. 19. Participants must
provide their own transportation to and from Zero Gravity.

CANCER HOME COLLECTION
THIS WEEKEND, JANUARY 17 & 18
Our Lady of Peace Home, located in St. Paul, is a home operated by the Franciscan Health Community for adult incurable
cancer patients who cannot afford to pay for their care. Nothing
is accepted from the patients or their families. Our Lady of
Peace Home receives no payment for the services provided and
relies solely upon the generosity of donors to continue its ministry. Every year, the Council of Women appeals to the generosity of St. Tim’s parishioners for food donations; bedding:
single bed size afghans & quilts; toiletries: deodorant, shave
cream, disposable razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash,
body wash, lotion, lip balm, nail polish, hairstyling products
(gel, spray, mousse, etc.), brushes, & combs; candy: wrapped
Snickers, Milky Way, M&Ms, & similar type candy, hard candy, & soft chewy candy; miscellaneous: slippers, socks, ink
pens, small note pads/Post-it notes, organizers/trays (small) for
patients to use to organize small personal belongings, zip lock
bags, & headphones; paper supplies: toilet paper, facial tissues, napkins, & paper towels; activity books (adults): crossword, word find, Sudoku, & mind challenge types. The weekend of January 17 and 18, these items may be placed in the
boxes at the doors of the church. Cash donations are also being
collected by Women’s Council members at the doors of the
church.

What a generous spirit of sharing you, the parishioners of St. Tim’s
showed for our Christmas baskets program, reaching out to others
in need during this Christmas holiday time to help 193 families
receive food, gifts and blankets. About 1000 cards were taken
from the trees, families were sponsored and cash and miscellaneous items were donated to the baskets – as well as numerous volunteers who helped put all the pieces together. THANKS TO
ALL WHO SUPPORTED THIS PROGRAM!!!
Special blessings and gratitude to Mary Joan Geist, Teena
Badzinski, Nancy Downey, Lucy Witte, Kathy Petron, and Diane
Ochocki who walked this journey with me and spent countless
hours with love, compassion, commitment, and just plain hard
work, and the Blanketiers who made 255 blankets to give to the
children of the families. Then there were those who came out in
the early morning hours to transport food from Cub, others who
accepted, sorted, and wrapped presents, carried the bags of presents to the gym, packed food baskets, and helped with the distribution and delivery of the baskets.
