observations and actions based on both contextual awareness and theological convictions. The
workshop also offers an overview of alternative approaches that respond to diverse ministry
settings.
What has holiness to do with the Triune God? And what does the Triune God have to do with
the mission of the Church of the Nazarene? This workshop looks at the way in which our
fundamental Wesleyan beliefs about God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - provide the basis for our
engagement in world mission at home and abroad. Sponsored by NTS.
The drive to be a success by the standards of the world often crowds out the qualities of
goodness, virtue, and faithfulness that should define Christian leadership. In today’s church,
successful leadership is often judged by what works, while persistent faithfulness takes a back
seat. In their pursuit of this warped vision, church leaders end up embracing a narrative that
runs counter to the sacrificial call of the gospel. Subverting that false narrative is the subject of
this session. Sponsored by NTS.

Having moved from the pastorate to university administration, I am rethinking how I would lead
a congregation to be effective disciples in their workplaces. Join me as we think about living out
our faith by the way we work.
The Good News of Jesus is that in Christ, all of us are to find real family. In this workshop Diana
Garland will draw on biblical narrative and social scientific research to reveal what makes a real
family, and the role of the church has in forming and strengthening families in today’s
challenging world.
The theme of God’s call to his people to be holy is well known. God’s concern for the poor, the
alien, and other marginalized peoples is also well known. What is less known is how these two
themes interconnect within the Scriptures. This workshop will explore that interconnection.
Sponsored by NTS.
Why are so many 20- and 30-something Christians disappearing from the church? They are told
how much the church wants young people, yet there is growing suspicion among young
believers about who is in and who is out of the scope of Christian orthodoxy. Through this
suspicion, a rift between the generations has emerged. In the face of frustration, of being cut
out because they don t seem to fit, young believers often take their gifts and leave the church.
This book helps those who feel displaced by this generational collision find a sense of place and
welcome with a church that is still becoming all that God wants it to be. Sponsored by NTS.

Weakness is a theme throughout the Bible. What is revealed in scriptures is that God is drawn to
human weaknesses rather than strengths. This workshop tracks the story of weakness in the life

Corporate prayer is at the heart of overcoming weakness and the main mechanism to draw
God's presence and power.
Church leaders everywhere are asking how they can engage emerging adults in the life of the
church. If our response to this consists of being attractional, hosting events, and having every
age group represented in a church building setting we have missed the point. Invitation to God's
mission, depth of relationship, and flexibility with the flow of life are essential.

Description
For years, conversations have been focused on the tendency of young adults to leave the
church. Hope for changing these statistics is rooted within the challenging commission of Jesus:
make disciples. Using data from a recent study in a local church context, several years of

seminar will focus on the movement forward.
Youth ministers discovering a new era of brain research often encounter a major, controversial
view concerning neuroscience and adolescence suggesting youth prove unable to make logical,
