Aleina of India proved too good for Maria Taleb of Bahrain and sealed the title 6-0, 6-0. In the 16 years and under boys, Rahul Jaideep and Qassim Obaidan claimed the title beating Mohammed Dhaif and Yousif Dhaif in an intense final which went the distance. Rahul and Qassim rallied from a set down and had to dig deep into their reserves of energy before clinching the title 3-6, 7-6, 13-11. DOUBLE TREAT! n BTC president Khamis Muqla with the winners and runners-up of yesterday’s finals l Shaikh Hamad and Al Kooheji race to victories n The winners with officials SHAIKH Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Hussain Al Kooheji kept their perfect records intact yesterday when they claimed yet another double victories in their respective championships at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC). Shaikh Hamad won both races in the BIC 2,000cc Challenge to extend his winning streak to a flawless eight in a row. Al Kooheji, meanwhile, followed suit with his own double in the BMR 600 Championship, stretching his unbeaten run to four races. Both series were held in Sakhir as part of BIC’s National Racing Festival. It was organised by BIC in cooperation with Bahrain Motor Federation and Circuit Racing Club. Shaikh Hamad had a slow start to the day in the BIC 2,000cc Challenge, which was holding the fourth round of the 2014-2015 season. Abdulaziz Ashkanani, driving a Honda S2000, topped free practice with a best lap of one minute 18.877seconds. Hussain Karimi then steered his Honda CRX to winning pole position with a best lap of 1min 18.841secs, But Shaikh Hamad was not going to be outdone, and he quickly raised his level as the field headed to the pair of 15-lap sprints. Power After starting from third on the grid, the former champion managed to power to the front a few laps into the race and held on strong to take the chequered flag in a winning time of 19mins 58.574secs. Raed Himmo in a Honda CRX was third, 27.120secs off the pace. Alex Longden driving a BMW 3 Series finished fourth (+40.664secs), Abdulrahman Ghuloom in a Honda CIVIC was fifth (+59.684secs) and Tim Birkin rounded out the final classification in his Honda Integra in sixth (+2 laps). Ashkanani was not classified having only completed seven laps. Karimi clocked Race One’s fastest lap of 1min 18.805secs. In Race Two, Shaikh Hamad once again started from the middle of the field but it did not take him too long before moving up to the front. Shaikh Hamad won in 20mins 02.970secs for a much narrow gap of 0.136secs ahead of Karimi. Longden was third, 29.692s behind the winner. Birkin (+56.223secs), Ghuloom (+58.156secs), Ashkanani (+1 lap) and Himmo (4 laps) completed the finishing order. Meanwhile, there was just as much exciting action in the BMR 600 – the newly launched one-make series featuring Honda Hornet 600cc motorbikes. Hussain Al Aswad began the day on top after registering a best lap of 1min 16.067secs during free practice. He improved on his time to gain pole position in qualifying with a fastest lap of 1min 15.995secs. Al Kooheji started alongside Al Aswad. Issa claims Grand Prix title ALI Issa claimed the Grand Prix title in the Khalid bin Hamad Showjumping Championship, held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman and Bahrain Athletics Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa at the Military Sports Association Field in Al Raffah. Chairman of Showjumping Committee at Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and Platinum Stables manager Adnan Al Alawi crowned the winners of all categories. Issa claimed the Grand Prix title on Bascal in a time of 89.01 seconds. Sami Ghazwan was second on Fairuz in 79.19 seconds with four faults while Eyad Ahmed on Barilo was third in 83.34 seconds with four faults. Tawfiq Al Qattan on Ted was fourth in 84.83 seconds and four faults. In the juniors ‘A’ category, Mayoof Al Rumaihi finished first on Granis in 30.48 seconds. Hussain Mohammed Dadallah was second on Al Kooheji won Race One in 15mins 18.058secs. Alaswad finished 8.064secs back, while Saleh Alkandari was third, 8.170secs from first. Faisal Ali (+8.547secs), Chris Rabie (+25.209secs) and Abdulghaffar Albastaki (+39.108s) completed the top six of the 12 finishers. Ali had the race’s best lap time of 1min 15.661secs. Al Kooheji secured his double in 13mins 54.724secs. Al Aswad was second with a 2.094secs gap, and Alkandari third, 6.234secs behind. Ali (+10.055secs), Rabie (+35.934secs) and John Beddall (+36.392secs) finished fourth through sixth, respectively. Al Kooheji registered the best lap of 1min 15.145secs, which is the fastest of the season thus far. He was followed by Jassim Mohammed on Al Yabis in 26.07 seconds while Basil Al Dosari on Doori was third in 27.60 and Abbas Yousif fourth on Argentina in 28.60 seconds. In the Adults ‘B’ category, Sami Ghazwan on Fayrooz claimed first place prize in 40.14 seconds. Basil Al Dosari on Doori was second in 44.71 seconds and Mohammed Jassim on Al Yabis third in 47.74 seconds. Abbas Al Ghuraifi on Champion was fourth in 49.38 seconds. n The winners with officials n The Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Khalifa and general secretary Feras Al Halwachi visited former General Organisation for Youth and Sports president Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and Bahrain Tennis Association president and chairman of Women’s Committee at Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa and presented them with invitations to attend BVA’s 40th anniversary ceremony to be held on January 20 at the BVA Sports Hall in Isa Town. The event is organised by BBSA, sponsored by Bapco and will be held at Al Najma Club in Juffair. More than 60 players are taking part in the league which concludes on February 8. The organising committee said 38 players will take part in snooker and 30 in billiards. Bapco have earmarked $8,000 as prize money.
