Many historic neighborhoods & monuments were destroyed during WWII, but since the reunification & after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, historic areas have been completely revamped. Berlin is once again one of the greatest European cities, the third largest European city with population of about 3.5 million. You will view the most important sights & attractions of the city like Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag Building, present seat of the Parliament, Berlin Wall, Check-Point Charlie, Alexanderplatz with a TV tower, Museum Island, Holocaust memorial, Berliner Dom Cathedral, Kurfürstendamm avenue etc. You also have leisure time in downtown Berlin. Friday, August 14: Leave for Poland, city of Gdansk. Stop enroute in the largest harbor city of the country, in Szczecin. It belongs to the most wonderful Polish cities especially thanks to magnificent architecture. A local guide will conduct your tour of Waly Chrobrego, amazing complex of viewing terraces on the riverside of Oder River, Pomeranian Dukes´ Castle from the 12th century, Harbour Gate, part of the original fortification system from 1727 and more. After the tour we leave Szczecin & have lunch at Gdansk. Check-in our hotel. Saturday, August 15: Tour of Gdansk, the biggest city on the Polish coast with over 1000 years of history. Most of best-known monuments of Gdansk are placed in the area of Main City. During our tour you will see the City Hall with Carillon – musical instrument made with bells, which play several melodies during the day, the Long Market – the most famous street of Gdansk, remains of medieval fortifications. The building of PolishPost is a place where one of the most glorious episodes during WWII. had place – Westerplatte is recognized as a place where the war has begun. Another sight to see is a Lighthouse in New Port – from here the shot of a German battleship was fired which signaled to start of the attack on Poland which started WWII. And we must not miss one of the most famous places in Poland or even in Europe, the Shipyard – it is a symbolical place of the collapse of communism. Free time for individual to stroll & enjoying the city on your own. Sunday, August 16: Leave for Warsaw in the morning, the capital of Poland. Tour of the city in the afternoon during which you can admire the most important sights such as the Old Town with Royal Castle, Sigmund´s Column or Monument of Mermaid which is linked to the legend about the beginning of the city. Monday, August 17: Depart to Krakow in the morning, the south of Poland. Stop enroute in Czestochowa which is usually associated with Jasna Gora Monastery which is the biggest Marian sanctuary in the country. For the majority of Poles, it is an important pilgrimage destination & a place where the Virgin Mary appeared. The icon known as Black Madonna of Czestochowa crowned in 1656 as the queen & Protector of Poland is credited with many miracles. We will continue on the way to Krakow, formerly the capital of Poland. Check-in our hotel. Tuesday, August 18: Leave for Wieliczka for a guided tour of beautifully carved salt mine which includes some 205 miles of underground galleries on nine levels. The immense salt deposit was first mined around 1290. There are a number of chapels & chambers decorated with sculptures carved in salt. Back to Krakow to enjoy the tour of Old Town which was miraculously untouched by the Germans during the WWII, & the beauty of this city is listed by UNESCO as one of Poland’s twelve most significant historic sites. You will see the Church of our Lady, Main Square with famous Cloth hall & the largest market place in Krakow, where you will have a chance to buy some souvenirs - all kinds of polish gifts including amber jewelry, lace & wooden carved items. Wednesday, August 19: Depart to the Czech Republic, stop enroute, Wadowice, Poland to visit the birthplace of Pope John Paul II. You will tour the church where he was baptized & museum devoted to his memory. We then drive to Oswietim – Auschwitz to tour the (most complete concentration camp left intact with the victim’s shoes, glasses, suitcases, ovens etc.) (It is the most complete existing extermination camp remaining in Europe that I have witnessed. For example Dachau Concentration Camp north of Munich is a replica with only the building foundations left and only one Memorial Building remaining. Jim Slovak’s comment.) The horrific extermination of millions of human beings is depicted here. The camp received deportees from all over Europe & symbolizes the Nazi’s attempt to wipe out all Jews and gypsies. Arrive in the Czech Republic, central part of Moravia, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, the heart of Vallachia region, check-in our hotel. Thursday, August 20: You will experience one of the most popular tourist destination in this part of the country – the Wallachian Open-Air-Museum. The buildings are more than 100 years old stand here all originally furnished. Tour the Mill valley with the real examples of how people used to live in the mountains with the help of water power. We will tour Texas museum in Frenštát devoted to those who emigrated from this region to mostly Texas for better life. Next will be the Primary School Exhibition in the premises of the former Kozlovicke bailiff’s house, it was inspired by the fact that in the original wooden cottage that used to stand at this very location, the so-called Trivial School was opened in 1785, where three basic subjects were taught: writing, counting and religion. Finish the day with enjoyable evening party at Koliba Vlcina - Moravian wine, music and grilled chicken - “Everyone´s favourite place “quaint”! You will always remember Vlčina. Do not miss the party!! Friday, August 21: Leave for Prague, the capital of the country. Stop enroute for a tour of Punkva Caves which are one of the most popular caves in the Moravian Karst. You will certainly enjoy a romantic water cruise on the underground River Punkva and also the view of the Macocha Abyss. Continue on to Prague after lunch. Check- in our hotel in Prague. Saturday, August 22: In the morning, take a guided walking tour of Prague beginning with Prague Castle & then on to St. Vitus Cathedral, Hradcany quarter, & the Church of Our Lady Victorious which houses the famous wax statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague. We will walk across the famous 14th century Charles Bridge & continue on to Old Town Square to see the Astronomical clock. After lunch, we will end the tour at Wenceslas Square, which has historically been the sight of many events including the 1989 Velvet Revolution demonstrations. You will have free time for individual sightseeing and great shopping at the numerous stores lining the square. In the evening enjoy the boat cruise on Vltava River including a buffet dinner!
