Foot-March from Tank to tank
Areca nut is the prominent crop of Channagiri taluk. Continued
drought compelled farmers to dig tube wells beyond 1000 ft deep
but could see no water! Farmers were in desperation. Noticing
the plight of farmers, His Holiness Sri Taralabalu Jagadguru Dr.
Shivamurthy Shivacharya Mahaswamji took up the matter with
the Govt. and succeeded in getting Ubrani-Amrutapura Lift
Irrigation Project (150 Crores) sanctioned and implemented. As
a result of this project and also by the Grace of God, all the tanks
are filled to their brim and overflowing. In order to express their
profound respects and gratitude to the Swamiji, the farmers of
the Taluk are celebrating the Taralabalu Hunnime Mahotsava.
The Swamiji, along with the villagers and political leaders, will
hold a Paadayatra (Foot-March) – every day from one tank to
another and offer ‘Baagina’ - a unique traditional and religious
ceremony of thanking the Goddess of water. On 27th January
Sri Rajendra Singh a renowned water conservationist from
Rajasthan will join the Swamiji in this foot march.
TARALABALU HUNNIME
A number of saints and seers in the past have done their best,
contributed their might, and established the religious centres for the
betterment of mankind. They lived the life of austerity and went about
preaching as to how every one can also be virtuous and can attain
salvation. They guided how to remain faithful to God and one’s own
self and thereby avoid hazards they faced. These spiritual masters
established certain traditions for safe journey in the voyage of life.
They have made this much loved earth more lovely. And this will be a
continued process. Religion is both power and glory of man to enable
him to live a peaceful life in the society. Without this binding-force, man
goes astray and there will be no harmony in the society.
Sri Taralabalu Jagadguru Brihanmath is a well known religious
centre in Karnataka . `Taralabalu’ means ‘long live, my son’. These
are the words used by `Vishwabandhu Marulasiddha’ the founder of
this peetha, while blessing his follower Telagubalu Siddaiah by making
him to occupy the pontifical seat. Vishwabandhu Marulasiddha fought
against ignorance, blind belief and the barren traditions prevalent in
12th century. `Long live my son’ is not only meant to a single individual
but also to the whole of mankind. This peetha is 8th century old and Sri
Marulasiddha was an enlightened contemporary of Sri Basaveshwara.
In order to commemorate this day Taralabalu Hunnime Mahothsava is
celebrated in different places of the country annually on the full moon
day. This celebration is on the lines of national integration, universal
brotherhood and to teach the mankind that all religions are one and
have the common purpose of making man to cultivate the values of life
in every walk of everyday life.
Taralabalu Hunnime Mahothsava is being celebrated in Channagiri
this year in the presence of Sri Taralabalu Jagadguru Dr. Shivamurthy
Shivacharya Mahaswamiji from 26th January to 3rd February 2015.

m A man with instable mind should not begin any task/work.
m One should practice what one preaches. Words and deeds
should resemble each other. It is a shame to utter saintly words
and do barbaric acts.
m Man’s intelligence has increased and thinking ability has
enhanced, but unfortunately his heart is not blooming!
m The education system must be changed. Otherwise, there is no
hope for world peace. Children should be given three types of
education -- Professional, Spiritual and formal (Mundane).
m No country would ever flourish if the leaders are selfish, lethargic
and dishonest.
m He who does not work or earn his livelihood has no right to eat.
He is a traitor of the country.
m No one can do any harm to the person who has earned God’s
grace. Similarly, no one can save the person who has lost God’s
grace.
m Nowhere in the world do we see such caste discrimination as in
our country. The deadly enemy of mankind is man himself!
m Do not say that there is no God. Say that you are blind and do
not have those eyes which can see God!
