Ches got in an accident this past winter. The other driver ran a stop sign and
T-boned his car. Luckily Ches was not seriously injured, but his car was a
wreck. He went to Healey’s Auto Body Shop at Bonaventure and Empire Avenue, St. John’s and Greg Healey made his car look brand new. Greg says increased traffic has resulted in more car accidents and more repairs.
Father-Daughter Update
Hey there, I’m Catherine (the cute one with my dad in the picture below). I’m
the Marketing and Communications
Manager at Ches Crosbie Barristers
AND Ches’ daughter. Working for your
dad makes for an interesting dynamic at
the office. I’m going to give funny newsletter updates about what it’s like to
work with my dad, like how annoying it
is when we travel together for work
and he makes us almost miss the flight
EVERY TIME. Stay tuned.
Our Newest Team Member and her
Delicious Shortbread Recipe!
Introducing Shannon Sharpe, our newest member of the
Ches Crosbie Barristers team. Shannon has been a legal
assistant with Ches Crosbie Barristers since September
2013 and she assists lawyer Pamela Taylor in her case
files. In her spare time, Shannon spends time with her
husband and three children. She also runs, having completed her first race this summer.
Baking season is upon us and it turns out that Shannon
makes delicious shortbread cookies. If you’ve been trying to find an easy and tasty shortbread recipe to make
this fall and winter, look no further.
1 cup of floor
½ cup of icing sugar
½ cup of corn starch
¾ cup of butter
Mix all the dry ingredients first, then mix the butter into
the dry ingredients. Roll the dough into one inch balls
and flatten them with a fork, or cut them into desired
shapes. Place the cookies on a greased cookie sheet one inch apart and bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes
or until the bottoms are lightly golden brown. Let cool and Enjoy!
This is Shannon with her husband and three children.
Ches’ Hunting Trip
Ches went on his annual moose hunting trip at the beginning of October. They didn’t get a moose this
time, but they did get a few good pictures. These are pictures of Ches and his moose hunting gang.

Recent Moose Class Action Developments
A lot has happened recently with the Moose
Class Action. There was a court hearing September 30th, during which government applied to limit the class period from 10 years
to 2 years. If the government is successful in
their application, class members like Ben
Bellows whose moose-vehicle collisions
occurred before January 11, 2009 will be excluded from the action. Ches argued that the
negligence of government was not reasonably
discoverable in that 2 year time period and
the class period should be 10 years. Justice
Valerie Marshall is expected to give her
decision in December or sooner.

Also, on October 1st Ches revealed statistics
from a scientifically reliable survey showing public support for settling the Moose Class Action: 9 in 10
people on the island of Newfoundland say the moose-vehicle collision problem should be a priority with
government, and 8 in 10 Newfoundlanders agree with the proposal to continue building fences to keep
moose off problem highway areas. Trial is scheduled to start January 13, 2014. The Moose Class Action
has received a lot of media attention recently and Ben Bellows has done an excellent job of representing plaintiffs.
Cute Kittens from Hell
Hi, it’s Catherine again. I’d like you to meet
my 6 month-old kittens, Shy and Adventure.
I recently adopted these fun-loving brothers
from the St. John’s animal shelter Heavenly
Creatures. I absolutely adore them, but you
wouldn’t BELIEVE the trouble they get into.
They look all innocent in the picture, but
they’re devils. So far, they’ve ruined my
couches, clawed up my living room curtains,
torn holes in my shower curtain, chewed up
my iPhone charger, and either lost or eaten
two earrings (different sets)! Now do you
believe me?!?! But don't get me wrong… I
couldn’t live without them.
