[FRANCO VAIRANI]
[ADAM MEKIES]
[RANDALL STEVENS]
Franco Vairani is co-founder of Squared Design Lab, a
studio specializing in multidisciplinary design, producing
work across the fields of architecture, industrial design,
online interactivity, and film. They have been serving
as design and visualization consultants for a number
of designers including Gehry Partners, Diller Scofidio
& Renfro, Michael Maltzan Architecture, Peter Walker
Architects, officeDA, Michael Arad, Philips Design, Kyu
Sung Woo Architects, and others.
Adam Mekies is an associate landscape designer and
planner in Design Workshop's Aspen office. Adam grew up
in Iowa City, Iowa and received his undergraduate degree
in landscape architecture from Iowa State University with
an emphasis in urban design and digital technology.
Randall Stevens is the Founder and CEO of Archvision,
inc. Randall founded the company in 1991 after graduating
from the University of Kentucky, School of Architecture.
In 2009, Dr. Vairani received his PhD in the Design
and Computation program at the MIT Department of
Architecture, under the supervision of the renowned Prof.
William J. Mitchell. He was involved in a wide range
of design activities at MIT, from architecture to urban
interventions, online projects, as well as industrial,
graphic and animated applications.
In addition to his doctoral degree, Dr. Vairani also holds
a Master of Science in Architecture Studies from the
Department of Architecture at MIT and a professional
degree in Architecture from the Universidad Catolica de
Cordoba in Argentina.
Adam's original background in construction as an Iowa
DOT and concrete contractor has given him a unique
perspective and understanding of grading, drainage,
and the implications of design technology on the built
environment. This experience has been reflected in his
work with advanced drainage and topography analysis in
flooding and disaster recovery projects throughout Iowa
and other mid-west communities.
Through his work with Design Workshop, Adam has
developed and implemented numerous new standards and
three dimensional work flows within the Design Modeling
Systems of the firm. His work has spanned a wide range
of urban planning efforts, master planned resorts, flood
mitigation and recovery, urban corridor development,
construction grading and drainage simulation, multi. and
single family residential design, and urban mixed-use
development.
ArchVision initially focused on providing advanced 3D
visualization services to architecture and engineering
firms. In the late 90's Randall successfully led the
company in its transformation to developing software
built around the field of Image-Based Rendering (IBR) and
launched the software technology Rich Photorealistic
Content (RPC) currently being used by customers in 120
countries.
Randall developed business partnerships with leading
vendors of design visualization solutions, including
Autodesk, Bentley Systems, Robert McNeel & Associates,
Maxon, Lightworks, Informatix and SGI. Currently,
Randall is guiding ArchVision to expand the reach of RPC
as a content publishing platform by providing a variety
of content, publishing and management solutions for
manufacturers and the design industry
