CHILD DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROGRAMS
Paradise Valley High School Vocational Preschool
North Canyon High School Vocational Preschool
Located on two high school campuses, “Vocational” Preschools are designed to serve the
community and train high school students in child care and development. Both preschools
are open to toilet-trained children ages 3- to 5-years-old. While enrollment is on a first-come,
first-served basis, the school director makes every effort to structure a group of children from
a variety of ages.
High school students working in the preschools have responsibilities similar to private
preschool programs and include: planning/teaching lessons, observations, set-up/clean-up,
and parent contact. They also become familiar with regulations of the Arizona Department
of Health Services.
Children enrolled in these preschools participate in a wide variety of activities designed to meet
their special interests and needs in a safe and healthy environment. Activities are planned to
encourage each child’s growth in four areas of development: intellectual, emotional, physical,
and social.
The preschool portion of the vocational program runs during the fall and spring semesters of
the district’s academic year. Preschool students attend three-mornings-per-week. For additional information, including program fees, please contact the individual site directors. See the back cover for contact information.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PRESCHOOL
SUN Kids Preschool Program (Serving Unique Needs)
SUN Kids Preschool provides special education services for 3- to 5-year-old children with
special/unique needs who are not yet eligible for kindergarten. All children must be screened
prior to placement in the program. Screening appointments are available year round.
Preschoolers who are developing at an expected rate are accepted as peer models (“Peer
Pals”) and pay tuition of $130 per month. “Peer Pals” must have the ability to be strong
language and behavior models for our students with special/unique needs.
SUN Kids Preschool provides experiences to enhance learning in all developmental areas with
emphasis on meeting each child’s individual needs. Social-emotional readiness is an important
indicator in future school and work place success. Our language-based program provides
a foundation for support of future literacy skills. These foundations teach preschoolers the
“ready to learn” skills necessary to acquire future academic concepts.
Half-day sessions (AM and PM) meet Monday through Thursday. For more information about
SUN Kids Preschool or to schedule a screening appointment please call (602) 449-2650.
