The Team competition will be a written-oral contest. 2. Each team will be provided with stapled pieces of paper on which the team answer will be written. Before the start, the name of the school or whatever means of identification has been decided is to be written on each sheet. Part I – The 10 – Fifteen Second Questions: In this section, questions are to be solved mentally. There will be no writing anywhere, neither on paper, the table, their palms, etc. . 3. The quiz master will read the problem twice. After the second reading, he/she says GO. The timing then begins. 4. Any member of the team may write the answer. Each team will only have one answer which may be a joint answer. Answers must be complete with units when this is necessary. However, if the questions include the unit, it need not be given. Examples: a. A rectangle is 10 cm. by 8 cm. What is the area? The answer must include the unit as it is not included in the question. b. A rectangle is 10 cm. by 8 cm. By how many square centimeters is it larger than a square of sides 8 cm2? The answer is “16”. It need not include the unit. However, if it is still included, the answer is still correct. 5. When the time ends, the TIME KEEPER gives the “STOP” signal. All must stop writing. 6. Proctors immediately collect all answers, finish or unfinished, and give them to the chairperson of the board of Judges, who separates the correct answers from the wrong answers. He/she then announces the correct answer and the teams that got the correct answers. 7. Each correct answer merits 2 points. 8. Scorer records the correct answer obtained by the each team, both in the score sheet and score board. 9. In case there is a question, it must be directed to the chairperson of the board of judges before the next question. It may be made only by a contestant. The DECISION of the board of judges is final. Part II. The 5 – Thirty Second Questions: In this section, each team-contestant will be given scratch paper on which to solve the problems. Solving on scratch paper may begin as soon as the quiz master starts reading the problem. 10. The other rules for part I hold except that for writing. 11. Each question is for 30 seconds from the time the signal is given. 12. Each question merits 3 points. Part III. The 5 - One Minute Questions: In this section, rules I and II holds except that each team-contestants will be provided with the strip of paper on which the problems is printed so that they may refer to it again. 13. Each question is for 1 minute from the time the signal is given. 14. Each 1 minute question merits 5 points. 15. At the end of Part III, the scorer sum up all the sub-scores per sections to get the over-all team score. The teams are rank according to their scores. Additional scores for breaking a tie are not included. 16. TIE - BREAKING: In case of a tie among any of the teams vying for the first three places, a set of three (3) questions will be given to break the tie. If the tie is not broken, “do-or-die” questions will be given. In this type, any team who has an answer gives it to the judges as soon as it written. The other teams should continue writing as the problem may be continued until an answer is obtained. The judges may decide to change it if they think no team may get the answer. 17. The top three teams will be declared the Division Winners and be awarded with medals provided they obtained the required “hurdle rate” of at least 25 points out of a perfect score of 60 points. Certificates will be given to all participants, their coaches, the judges and all those who helped. Special certificates will be given also to the schools with winning teams. For both elementary and secondary levels, the top team for grade 6 and Fourth Year qualify to take part in the Regional Finals. 18. JUDGES: There will be a least three (3) judges. The three will agree on who will be the chairperson for a particular grade/year level contest. The chairperson will be responsible for overseeing the conduct of their particular grade/year level contest. Any questions raised by a contestant should be addressed to the chairperson. Hence, this should be announced before the starts of the contest. The chairperson decides with concurrence of the other two judges. During the contest, the judges will divide to work as follows: a. The chairperson will be watching the contestants and the staff to see that the contest is done according to the rules. b. One of the other judges will see to it that the question is read properly and the timer and scorers are accurate and consistent. c. The third judge will see to it that the slips of paper to be given in the third part are cut and given to him/her arranged properly. He/she givens these to the proctors at the same time. This judge will receive the answer from the proctors, separates the correct answer from the wrong answers and hands the correct answer to the chairperson who reads the teams with correct answers. d. All the judges will try to see that all the questions are properly printed and would-be answers are correct. Answers shall be appreciated in all possible ways depending on what the problem/question is asked for Example: Express 1 323 as a product of its prime factors? The expected answer is neither 3 x 3 x 3 x 7 x 7 or 33 x 72. But if the question says: Express 1323 as a product of its prime factors in exponential form, only the latter should be appreciated. 19. QUIZ MASTER: While waiting to begin, review the questions to see to it that there is no word/number that is not clear. Decide where to put the pauses in the reading so that the problem will be understood well. Pronounce GO with emphasis after reading the question for the second time. Begin reading only if there is no question. 20. TIMER / TIME KEEPER: Begin the timing exactly at the GO signal. Make sure that stop watch is properly set. 21. PROCTORS: Be alert to collect the answers as soon as the timer says stop. Help the quiz master see to it that no contestant who wants to ask question is overlooked.
