make plans to attend!
Parish Breakfast Service Project
On Sunday, February 15th, the 7th and 8th Grade Classes will help to cleanup and reset tables at the Parish Family Breakfast. Workers are needed from 8:00AM to 11:00AM or 10:00AM to 1:00PM. All 7th and 8th grade students are welcome
and encouraged to come and help. Sign-ups will take place at Religious Education Classes on Sunday, January 18th.
Souper Good News
The Souper Bowl of Caring is fast approaching. Led by our Youth Group members, we will join with an anticipated
15,000 congregations representing all fifty states and fifty different denominations in giving one dollar each leaving
Mass on Super Bowl Sunday.
Please come prepared to “play” in the Souper Bowl of Caring on the weekend of January 31st & February 1st. Every dollar donated will be sent to a local organization serving the hungry of our area. Why not attach your dollar to a can of
soup and drop it in one of our “soup pots” on that weekend?
THE BIBLE, THE CATHOLIC FAITH and MORE: Discussion sessions meet on the first and third Thursdays
of the month in the Parish Center from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.
Facilitated by Mike Abdalla
Catch Our Spirit… Celebrate Our Catholic Schools
As families register their students for the upcoming school year, consider becoming an Academic Angel!
Your contribution is an investment in a child’s future…the outcomes speak for themselves. Our schools offer an instructional environment that challenges the mind, while inspiring and strengthening the spirit. Please consider supporting our
students for the 2015-16 school year; you can designate the gift as a memorial or in honor of someone special, select a
particular school to receive it, or let us put it where it is needed most. Contributions can be sent to the Diocese of Scranton Scholarship Foundation, 300 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton PA 18503.
Catholic Schools Week
January 25-31, 2015
Celebrate Catholic Schools Week by attending one of our Catholic School Open Houses! You are invited to come and
experience our communities of faith and academic excellence. From Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade, our students
live their faith, challenge their minds, serve their communities, and build lifelong friendships. For specifics about the
Open Houses or for more information about our Diocesan Catholic Schools, including tuition assistance opportunities,
please visit www.DioceseofScranton.org/CatholicSchools.

THROUGH SCRIPTURE WE KNOW GOD CALLS US TO SERVE OTHERS.
WE ARE A PARISH COMMUNITY COMMITTED TO HELPING THOSE IN NEED.

From the Social Concerns Committee…
During the holidays, the Social Concerns Committee was able to provide some Christmas
Cheer to our Home Bound Parishioners as well as the Nursing Homes located within our
Parish. Our Home-Bound Residents received a beautiful Poinsettia as well as a handmade
Lap Cover or other Gift. The Nursing Homes Recreation Department was gifted $100 to
treat the Residents to a party and/or movies, etc. The Residents greatly appreciate your
thoughtfulness to them by sharing the Christmas Spirit. Thank you to the Committee
Members who generously gave of themselves on a rainy Christmas Eve morning to gift
our Parishioners with your presents!!
The Greatest Gift
Do you have a family member or neighbor who cannot leave their home to attend Mass
and receive the Blessed Sacrament? Our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are
here to serve your loved ones by bringing them the gift of Christ Himself, the greatest gift
that can be given. If you know of someone we should be serving, please contact Vince
Klingler at 570-205-5716 or [email protected] for arrangements.

Congratulations to Madison Margaret O’Malley who will be baptized this weekend at Divine Mercy. Madison Margaret is the daughter of Brian and Jennifer Jasinski O’Malley.
She was born on November 3, 2014. May the Lord bless Madison Margaret and her family
on this most special occasion!
This is Catholic Schools Week, jointly sponsored by the National Catholic Educational
Association (NCEA) and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. To learn more
about this celebration visit ncea.org/news/CatholicSchoolsWeek.asp.
I found these words from C.S. Lewis and I will share them with you on this third Sunday
in Ordinary Time. “Fallen man is not simply an imperfect creature who needs improvement: he is a rebel who must lay down his arms. Laying down your arms, surrendering,
saying you are sorry, realizing that you have been on the wrong track and getting ready to
start life over again from the ground floor is the only way out of a hole. This process of
surrender, this movement of full speed astern, is what Christian call repentance.”
Have a great week!
