About our community…
Our suburban community is nestled between the cities of Elkhart and Goshen in Northern Indiana. Unlike other school corporations in our county, our district is not located in a town. We don’t have a mayor of Concord or a town council. Our
school district is the heart of our community. The members of the Concord community including school board, staff, and
community share a common commitment to build a culture of excellence as articulated in our mission and decision-making.
Our area has a diversified economy based on manufacturing, services, and agriculture. The area is particularly known for
its production of recreational vehicles and the necessary suppliers, and the entrepreneurial spirit necessary to respond to
the swift changes in the manufacturing industry.
About our schools…
Our schools are as diverse as the community we live in. While we maintain a focus on our students’ achievement, our students also continue to enjoy opportunities for art, music, physical education, and technology education. We are proud of
the broad scope of services we deliver to our students including the deaf/HH program for Elkhart County, the 14th largest
English learner population in Indiana, high ability programming, and alternative opportunities for students in grades 3-9.
We also partner with area schools to offer alternative opportunities for students in grades 10-12 as well as dual credit opportunities at the Elkhart Area Career Center. Our high school also offers many Advanced Placement and dual credit options. Students benefit from media center visits as well as school counseling supports. Additional opportunities exist for
participation many activities beyond the school day including athletics, music, speech, theater, and other club activities.

The Concord Community School Corporation will expect the applicant to be a dedicated and respected educational leader. He/She must be an energetic and dynamic leader with high moral and ethical
standards along with personal integrity. The applicant must have the ability to analyze the school
corporation’s programs and create well-defined recommendations and expectations. The applicant
needs the background skills and abilities to continue a tradition in academic excellence with a strong
community commitment. In addition to a valid Indiana superintendent’s license or proof of eligibility from the state licensing board and a combination of teaching and administrative leadership experience at the central office and/or building level, the following criteria have been identified as of particular importance to the successful operation of Concord Community Schools.

Proven experience with administering ever-changing public education trends.

Commitment to academic excellence for all students while closing or narrowing gaps in achievement.

A strong background in K-12 curriculum, instruction, and assessment and understands the significant role
technology plays in the area of classroom instruction.

The ability to create and implement a positive vision for the future success of the school district while engaging the school board, administration, teachers, support staff, and community towards that vision.

The ability to manage district resources and knowledge of sound fiscal procedures involved with budget
and finance that also promote transparency, accountability, and student achievement.

An extensive working knowledge of effective employee selection and evaluation as well as collective bargaining.

Strong oral, written, and technical communication skills to be visible and openly accessible to all stakeholders thus presenting a positive image of the district.

Exceptional management skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and maintain positive morale.


JOB TITLE: Superintendent

School Board
POSITION PURPOSE:
Directs and coordinates activities concerned with administration of the
school system in accordance with board of education standards and State laws by performing the
following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential function satisfactorily.
1. Formulates plans and policies for educational program and submits them to school
board for approval.
2. Administers program for selection of school sites, construction building, and provision of
equipment and supplies.
3. Directs preparation and presentation of school budget and determines amount of school
bond issues required to finance educational programs.
4. Addresses community and civic groups to enlist their support.
5. Interprets program and policies of school system to school personnel, to individuals and
community groups and to governmental agencies.
6. Coordinates work of school system with related activities of other school districts and
agencies.
7. Insures that laws applying to attendance of children at school are enforced.
8. Supervises examining, appointing, training, and promotion of teaching personnel
9. Performs general supervision over personnel services, curriculum development, and
business administration.
10. Attends and participates in all meetings of the Board and its committees, except when
own employment or salary is under consideration.
11. Makes all administrative decisions within the school necessary to the proper function of
the school district.
12. Formulates school objectives, policies; plans, and programs; and prepares (or causes to
be prepared) and presents facts and explanations necessary to assist the Board in its
duty of legislation for schools.

13. Files, or causes to be filed, all reports required by the state and the school code.
14. Recommending new or revised school board policies to the Board for possible adoption.
15. Determining school facility needs and making recommendation on new construction and
remodeling projects.
16. Enforce the rules and regulations of the Board, submit for adoption by the Board the
annual school calendar make a continuous study of the development and needs of the
schools and propose reports to the Board on the condition and development of the
schools. He/she shall also acquaint the public with the activities and needs of the
schools.
17. Directly supervises and evaluates the following administrators:
 Assistant Superintendent
 Business Manager
 Director of Elementary Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment
 Director of Secondary Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment

18. Demonstrates knowledge of developments and trends in K-12 education.
19. Ensures collaborative meetings are conducted as necessary for the discussion of
matters concerning the improvement and welfare of the schools and educational
programs
20. Establishes and maintains a program of public relations to keep the public well informed
of the activities and needs of the school district.
21. Strive toward the highest standards of personal conduct.
22. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Board.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises school principals, directors, managers,
and employees within the school organization. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance
with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and
training employees; planning, assigning, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education.
2. Skills in human relations.
3. Ability to plan and organize; good work habits.
4. Ability to effectively present oral and written information and respond to questions from
administrators, teachers, school staff, and patrons.
5. Proven instructional leadership.
6. Other qualifications that the School Board may require.
