Since 1944, International Heifer Project has helped more than 18.5 million
families in more than 125 countries. The impact of each gift is then
multiplied as recipients agree to pass on the gift by giving one or more of their animals’ offspring to
another in need. As a mission project, the children’s Sunday school classes have asked the entire
congregation to help fill the Ark. Our goal is to raise $5000 so that we can
purchase two each of fifteen different animals. In the month of May, we
had such a great response to the calendar giving campaign. One small
bank didn’t look very significant, but when we combined all the banks, we
began to see the difference we are making. Thank you to all of those who
participated in the calendar giving campaign. With everyone’s help, we
raised $913.75. Combining the calendar giving, the aluminum can recycling
money and some very special donations, we are now half way to our goal. The kids are very excited
to hear that we have all 15 animals on the ark, but we need two of each kind! So, we are asking that
everyone keep bringing in your aluminum to recycle (collection boxes are located at each of the
entrances). Please remember to separate your cans from other recycling/garbage prior to dropping
them off at the church. If you have a bank that you would still like to donate, please bring it in.
With everyone’s help, we can make a difference and fill the Ark!

Report on the 2015 Annual Conference
Held at Grove City College - June 11-14, 2015
by Evelyn LeFebvre - Lay Delegate
The Theme for the Annual Conference this year
was 'Excellence in Leadership' Each of the District
Superintendents highlighted the good work being
done by pastors in their districts. They further
affirmed that there are no Disciplinary charges
pending against any of the pastors. Bishop Bickerton
affirmed each of the Superintendent's character and
integrity. He personally thanked them for the hard
work and continuing to be united in a common
purpose and respecting each other's abilities to work
toward that purpose and to share as they minister
together as a cabinet. It was noted that the Prayer
Center in Breen Student Union was open daily from
7 am to 11 pm for prayer.
Opening Worship --Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton
led the opening services centered on the theme
'Reaching Higher'. Bishop Bickerton introduced Mike
McCurry from the Baltimore/Washington Annual
Conference. McCurry spoke on behalf of the
Executive Committee of the United Methodist
Church's Global Health Initiative. He thanked and
praised the Annual Conference for not only pledging
$1.8 million but also for actually raising $2.1 million
for this project. As a denomination, we have
reached 88% or $67 million of our $75 million dollar
goal. Greg Cox responded to McCurry's address of
gratitude and challenged the Annual Conference to
give once again to this cause. An offering of
$91,059.53 was received for Imagine No More
Malaria.
Bishop Bickerton brought God's word to the body,
based on Colossians 3:1-17 entitled 'Leading from
Within’. He stated that 'a leader that leads from
within takes their lead from Christ and nurtures a
relationship with Christ that strengthens the thread
of faith and constantly acknowledges that this
relationship with Jesus is a new way of living and a
new way of leading.’ The Sacrament of Holy
Communion was celebrated by the body.
Clergy and Laity voted for delegates to General
Conference in May 2016 in Portland, OR and
Jurisdictional Conference in July of 2016 in
Lancaster, PA
Dr. Paul McNulty, President of Grove City College
greeted the members at the Annual Conference. Ed
Bailey, United Methodist Foundation Director
described how the UMF helps churches fund various
ministries through grants, endowments, capital
projects and investments.
Commissioning Service - - Bishop Jonathan
Holston of the South Carolina United Methodist
Conference brought the message, 'What's Love Got
to Do With It?' He declared that we can become so
heavenly bound that we are no earthly good. A
second response to the question is 'Love is more
Powerful Than Hate'. Finally, the ultimate answer to
the question: 'What's Love Got To Do With It?' 'It's
Everything'. Following the sermon David Andrew
Bell, Jr., John Darin Mize, Benjamin Andrew Phipps
(son of Pastor John and Anne Phipps) and Jack Lee
Tickle III were commissioned as Provisional Elders.
The Annual Conference gathered for a Memorial
Service to celebrate the lives of those who have
served faithfully through the years and now share
the Triumph of Christ. Rev. Keith McGarvey gave the
message 'Unbound.'
The Shoe Collection numbers were given by
Bishop Bickerton: 1,470 bags of shoes with a total of
36,570 pairs.
Ordination - The conference gathered for a
service of Reaffirmation of Baptism, Ordination and
Holy Communion. The Bishop's message was
'Leading with Purpose.' Recognized as an Associate
Member - Wade Barto.
Receiving ordination as Elders were: Alison M.
Berkey, Gary L. Hilton, Anthony R. C. Hita and Scott
Shaffer. Following the ordination, Bishop Bickerton
adjourned the Conference.

From Ed Rhodes, Steve & Kim Gallagher, Dave & Tonya Brown and their families with
love:
We are overwhelmed by the love you showered on our family throughout Barb's illness
and the difficult days following. We were truly blessed by all of Pastor Brad's visits to our
homes and the hospital and for conducting such a meaningful funeral service. Debbie
Cochenour's gift of music touched our hearts. A special thank you to Margaret
Gillingham, Cindy Daniels and Curt Scott for their assistance with organizing the service.
We greatly appreciated the delicious funeral luncheon by the United Methodist Women (So many names, but we
thank you all!), and also to Dan Pflugh. We treasure your friendship, thoughtfulness and most of all your prayers on
our behalf. Thank You!
From Shirley Neel: To the Congregation of Concord U.M. Church.
I want to thank you for all the support you have given me and my family over the past year. Your thoughts, concerns and
prayers help Harvey to be with us an extra year. We wouldn't have had that without your many prayers. I also want to thank
you for all the support you have given Brad and Robin since they arrived at Concord UMC. I know they will miss all of you when
they move to their new church.
From Marcie Young:
Jon and I would like everyone to know how we appreciated the meals sent over and the beautiful prayer shawl during
my recent knee surgery. We couldn't have asked for a more caring church family to help in a time of need. Thank
you all so much.

SHOES GALORE! -- Concord did some fancy footwork this year and collected a whopping 486 pairs of shoes; that's 143 more
pairs than last year. The generous donations raised money for ministries to the homeless and those with disabilities in western
Pennsylvania. In addition, the shoes will be shipped to developing nations where families will be taught to repair them and sell
them at a cost the people in their communities can afford. So families will be able to make a living from the donated shoes. Many
thanks to Lori Wright, Craig Falk and Bruce & Kristin McKelvey for banding and bagging the shoes, and to Pastor Brad for
delivering them all to conference.
MOREHEAD CITY, HERE WE COME! -- Our Concord family has been wonderfully
supportive of the mission team headed to North Carolina and now we would appreciate your prayer
support. We will leave Sunday, July 19, and return July 25. While there, we will lead a Vacation Bible
School, do yard work for elderly and disabled residents; and do beach evangelism. Team members are:
Derek Pettner, Esther Taylor, Lisa, Zach and Kira Labon, Amy McKoy, and John, Marcia and Christian
Cater.
SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM -- A crew from Concord is spending Monday evenings helping feed
hungry children in the Walnut Ridge area of Ellwood City. In addition to providing food for their bodies,
we also are providing food for their souls through crafts, games, songs, stories, etc. Many thanks to the
more than 20 adults and youths who are involved in this ministry.
WE WANT YOUR TRASH -- Just a reminder that Concord offers many opportunities to recycle
your trash to benefit various ministries: We collect used stamps to provide money for Sunday school materials for children in
Central and South America; the collection bins in the parking lot are for old clothes (even holey ones), shoes, belts, and purses,
which are recycled to raise funds to help our Concord kids go to church camp; we save Labels for Education from a variety of
grocery products to help people in Appalachia; and we recycle aluminum cans to raise money for Heifer International's efforts to
feed the hungry. Instead of throwing these items away, please take a few seconds to donate them to help others.
TEE-OFF FOR TIGER PAUSE -- Tiger Pause Youth Ministry is organizing a golf outing on Saturday,
Aug. 15 at Fox Run Golf Course, 4240 River Road in North Sewickley Township. Cost is $75 per person and $300
per team and that covers green fees, cart, morning refreshments, hot dogs & beverages at turn and dinner. The
