ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE SCHOOL 1331 N. MAIN STREET ELKHART, IN 46514 OFFICE: 574-264-4855 AFTERCARE: 574-361-4848 WEBSITE: STSELKHART.COM January 21, 2015 From the Principal’s Desk……………… Dear STS Families, As you know, this Sunday marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. Our students will be leading the ministries at the 11:30 Mass and we look forward to beginning our week of celebration in church. Our annual open house will be held immediately following Mass from 12:302:30. Last week, a parent shared with me that some families from our own parish haven’t visited St. Thomas School because they haven’t been invited to do so, needless to say, Fr. Jason and I will be working to correct that issue. Today, you will receive a flyer for the open house and I would encourage you to copy it and share it with any family that you feel would benefit from visiting our school. Our goal is to provide a tour and information to at least 100 new families. Please spread the word about our fantastic school and parish! Along with an excellent, highly qualified and dedicated faculty and staff, our school is blessed with incredible families. Our children are the best of the best, and you, our families provide amazing support for our school by volunteering, organizing events, actively engaging and participating in programs and organizations, demonstrating respect for our staff and by financially supporting the needs of the school. Jesus, my Savior, thank You for the blessing of my Catholic education. Thank You, too, for the gift of Your Holy Spirit who dwells within me always and who helps me live my faith. Let me not be bashful about spreading my “wings of faith.” Allow me to openly share the good news of Jesus in my daily words and actions. May I have the grace and courage to choose what is right and give witness to Your love always. Amen. One of our programs that provide significant financial support is SCRIP. Because of your loyal dedication to supporting the program, St. Thomas has been able to purchase new lunch tables, classroom desks and two new Promethean boards, totaling more than $20,000 just this year! Like any Catholic school, finances are always tight and as we look to expand curricular offerings, upgrade technologies and improve our facilities, programs like this are vital. If you have not yet tried the SCRIP program, I would encourage you to learn more. Usually, volunteers are set up in the gathering space at church each week after Mass, and they will be glad to answer any questions that you might have. This semester, the SCRIP program will aid in providing tuition reimbursement as well as helping with the playground project. Please help us by participating in the program. I would like to highlight one of our outstanding teachers this week. This year’s recipient of the Light of Learning Award is Ms. Christine Fox. She will be honored for her Christ-like excellence at a special luncheon during Catholic Schools Week. This will be the third time that Miss Fox has received this award. Please congratulate her on her award and thank her for loving the children at St. Thomas! This week we have continued our prayer focus, especially finding the light in others. The journey has lead us to discovering the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. We will be using Paul’s letter to the Galatians, specifically Chapter 5 as our guide as we continue to pray, Veni, Sancte Spiritus (Come, Holy Spirit). Peace, John Wiggans Principal Reminders…..
