Message from the President
Unicamp is a magical place that has grown
since 1969 from a Unitarian Universalist
children’s summer camp to a three-season
camp and conference centre boasting
programming for all ages. Unicamp continues
to mature from year to year and season to
season. This is not just a camp or a conference
centre but a rich and diverse Community that encourages many types of interaction.
Unicamp has three weeks of children’s camp and three weeks of family camp
along with programming for youth, naturalists, hikers, Sacred Circle dancers,
musicians, artists, writers, explorers of Unitarian Universalism and people who
want to worship in the beauty of nature. Camp is also heavily utilized outside our
regular season with many off-season rentals. You can easily immerse yourself in
fellowship, in program and in nature. You can enjoy the pond with its rich plants
and animals or simply be in the quiet, and enjoy our interconnected web.
Unicamp is very much like a conversation with a close loved one that continues from
season to season. It is welcoming and, most importantly, accepting of all people.
Past President Ellen Papenburg said it well, “Unicamp is a Unitarian community
that adheres to the seven principles of Unitarianism, and this comes with a lot of
responsibility. Unicampers are people agreeing to agree and disagree.”
The Unicamp board and senior staff have spent a great deal of time updating
everything from policies and literature to staffing models and communication.
We have tried to improve physical accommodation and group spaces but the
permanent structures are in need of more than just a patch-up. This will be the
year that decisions will be made and fundraising will be taken up a notch to start
the process of rebuilding.
If it takes a community to raise a child what does it take to raise a community? The
answer is You. We need each and every Unicamper to commit their presence, time,
energy, and funds to help Unicamp mature in its 50th year. If you are interested in
being part of raising this community please let us know, through our web site or
administration, how you would like to help.
Unicamp is the dearest place in the world to me. I have been a camper, staff,
facilitator, board member, artist-in-residence, and seasonal for more than thirty
years. The current board and staff are a remarkable group of dedicated Unicampers
and I am proud to be among them and their amazing energy.
Peace and Good Making to you.

and washrooms in the dining hall and spiritual centre. You supply your own
bedding, pillows and towels. Drinking water is available in all washrooms, at the

Unicamp is located in Dufferin County, just north of Shelburne, Ontario, within the
UNESCO Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve. It boasts 50 beautiful, peaceful
acres of meadows, coniferous and deciduous forests, marshes, streams, caves and
two beaches on a 2.5-acre spring fed pond that is always safe for swimming. This
is a magical place to relax, explore, meet new people and reconnect with self,
community and nature.
At Unicamp we acknowledge that each of us has special qualities and talents to
share. Unicamp is based on a long tradition of cooperation and caring in a relaxed
and respectful environment. Campers are asked to help with chores such as tidying
