the Souper Bowl of Caring will be held. This year marks the 25th anniversary for this ministry, started by a youth group in Texas, dedicated in the
fight against hunger and poverty nation wide. To date this ministry has collected more than $100 million, all of which is given to charity. Following
morning worship please plan to support this important ministry by staying
for a delicious lunch of homemade soups, salad, bread, desserts and drinks.
One hundred percent of the money collected will be donated to the Outreach

Welcome to St. Michael Church
n a world polluted by noise, we should be able to expect the privilege of
silence for meditation and preparation as we enter the space set aside for
our public worship. In that spirit, we ask you for silence and offer the devotional aids below for your use as you await the start of the service and during the prelude.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Everlasting God, we bless you that you have brought us to the mountaintop
and fed us with the life and light of your Son. Send us in his name from this
place to bring light into dark corners, healing where lives are torn, and nourishment to every hungry heart, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and
Lord.

Prayers Before Worship
O Lord God almighty, we remember on this day your mighty grace which
turned the heart of a great enemy of our Lord Jesus Christ. You brought Paul
from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to faith in Jesus. For the
conversion of the Apostle Paul by the visitation of Jesus we thank you.

O God, as you called Saul, the persecutor of the Church, to be the Apostle
Paul, who proclaimed the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, grant that
we may always hear your call of us. May we be true to your calling and
count everything as loss for the gain of knowing Christ Jesus as our Savior.

in God's way.

COMMUNION
Communion is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ's love. To receive
communion the assembly follows the choir, approaching the altar rail by the
center aisle in two rows. Individuals fill in at the next open spot at the rail on
their side of the aisle. You may kneel or stand. The pastor will come around and
place the host (bread) in your hand, an assisting minister will have the wine.
You may receive the wine either by common cup, or from the pouring chalice.
To receive from the pouring chalice take a glass from the tray at the front of the
center aisle. After you use the glass you may place it in the tray on the window
sill as you return to your seat by the side aisle.

Acts 9:1–22
Meanwhile Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of
the Lord, went to the high priest 2and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any who belonged to the Way, men
or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3Now as he was going
along and approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed
around him. 4He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul,
Saul, why do you persecute me?" 5He asked, "Who are you, Lord?" The
reply came, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 6But get up and enter
the city, and you will be told what you are to do." 7The men who were traveling with him stood speechless because they heard the voice but saw no
one. 8Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could
see nothing; so they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.

for he is an instrument whom I have chosen to bring my name before Gentiles and kings and before the people of Israel; 16I myself will show him how
much he must suffer for the sake of my name." 17So Ananias went and entered the house. He laid his hands on Saul and said, "Brother Saul, the Lord
Jesus, who appeared to you on your way here, has sent me so that you may
regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." 18And immediately
something like scales fell from his eyes, and his sight was restored. Then he
got up and was baptized, 19and after taking some food, he regained his
strength.
For several days he was with the disciples in Damascus, 20and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying, "He is the Son of
God." 21All who heard him were amazed and said, "Is not this the man who
made havoc in Jerusalem among those who invoked this name? And has he
not come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief
priests?" 22Saul became increasingly more powerful and confounded the
Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus was the Messiah.

Saint Paul writes:
