JCPS Prepares for Annual Comprehensive School Survey
(Louisville, KY) January 28, 2015 — The Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) District will conduct their annual
Comprehensive School Survey (CSS) from February 2 – March 13, 2015. The CSS is provided annually to all staff, all
parents, and students in grades 4–12 for the purpose of collecting data concerning academic indicators, school
community, service, environment, safety, and employee job satisfaction.
Students in grades 4–12 will complete the CSS at school during the school day. All parents/guardians who have
registered for Parent Portal will receive an e-mail with a link directing them to the Data Management
Survey Tool (DMST) where they can complete the survey. Parents who do not have computer access or an e-mail
account will be provided with a paper-and-pencil survey. Schools are being asked to provide parents with access to the
school’s computer lab to complete their survey online. Parents are encouraged to complete the CSS to ensure that their
feedback are part of the district’s decision-making process.
JCPS employees with district e-mail accounts will receive an e-mail that contains a link to the staff surveys on the DMST.
Employees who do not have a district e-mail account and/or a computer will be provided access to DMST to complete
their survey. Utilizing the DMST will allow parents and staff to complete their surveys in a faster, more efficient manner.
We want to assure you these surveys are completely anonymous.
The CSS is a valuable district resource in identifying specific needs and successfully crafting strategies to ensure student
success. The district uses the annual CSS data for a variety of purposes including:
• Comprehensive District Improvement Plan (CDIP) development;
• Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) development;
• Strategic planning, policy making, and benchmarking processes; and
• Formative evaluation of programs, projects, innovations, and grants.
The Jefferson County Board of Education mandated the CSS be conducted on an annual basis, beginning with the 1996–
97 school year. The CSS supports the Board’s goals of (1) increased learning, (2) graduation and beyond, (3) stakeholder
involvement/engagement, and (4) safe, resourced, supported, and equipped schools.

Dress Code for Dances
Our staff is happy to volunteer personal time to provide activities such as the dances students enjoy so much. However,
in recent years the length of some of the female students’ skirts have continued to climb, making it very difficult to
monitor our ticket lines of students coming into the dance as we deal with dress code. In light of this, we are clarifying
the dress code for the events and need your help in making sure in advance that clothing is appropriate:




Dresses must be no more than 1 inch above the top of the kneecap (measurement will be taken at the
end line of the main fabric of the dress, not at the end of any sheer material enhancing the dress)
Slits must be no more than 1 inch above the top of the kneecap
Dresses must be complete with no cut outs or sheer material that expose the stomach or sides
Dresses must not have plunging necklines or backs that are cut out below the natural waist
Attire for those not wearing dresses, must include:





Collared or Tuxedo Shirt
Tie
Dress Pants
Dress Shoes
Suit or Tuxedo Jacket
Students will not be allowed to wear jeans, tennis shoes, or baseball caps.
Students must be dressed appropriately to be admitted and must remain in dress code for the duration of
the event. Ticket prices will not be refunded if a student is not dressed appropriately and has to be turned
away or removed from the event.
We realize that many of the local retailers provide a large selection of evening and party dresses, but our events are not
“club events” or “private party” events. They are for high school age students. We appreciate in advance your assistance
in ensuring students are dressed appropriately for these events.
