We are...
Our sincerest thanks for the parents for
serving at the Hospitality following the
celebration.
As you know this week we continue to celebrate Catholic Schools
following our Open House. A lot of work happens behind the
scenes in preparation for the open house so we wish to extend our
heartfelt thanks to our students to producing such impressive work
for all to admire, our marketing team for preparing the collateral
flyers for those interested in our schools and of course the parents
and teachers for giving up their time to ensure we had a successful
showing of school.
Good News Awards
The Gospel Value for
January is: Perseverance
Congratulations to the following students who were
recognized for practicing
Perseverance on Jan. 23.
Thanks everyone for pitching in to open our doors to guests, families and friends.
We extend our thanks to our Sports Council
members for the countless hours they put toward
this years Annual Crab Feed.
From the antipasti, through dessert, the night
was filled with delectable food, music and energetic conversation.
Thanks to those who were able to attend. The event grossed $13,500.00

ATTENTION PARENTS & GUARDIANS
Dear Parents,
We have had numerous complaints about the double parking during the
dismissal period. These complaints are being taken seriously and, after
consulting our police contact, several changes will need to be made immediately.
Pick up and drop off reminder
3
 We have a white zone that needs to be enforced. There is no parking in




the white zone between 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. This zone is for drop off and
pick up only. Drivers need to be able to move forwards towards the
Elizabeth Street gate as is done in the morning drop off.
There should be no double parking next to this white zone.
Diamond Street is a wider street and double parking here will be better
as the flow of traffic can continue on both sides.
There will be police presence beginning this Friday and cars will be ticketed if left unattended, parked in the white zone or double-parked next
to the white zone.
Parents, if you enter the white zone and your child is not there, you will
need to go around the block. You cannot sit and wait for your child.
We will practice this on Thursday, but, again, we need to follow these
guidelines.
Things parents need to consider:
 If you have two or more children to pick up, please know you will also
need to go around the block if one of your children is not in front. It
would be better if you could find parking.
 If you are picking up an older grade student, please come during the latter part of dismissal; older grades are dismissed 10 minutes later.
 There is a lot of socializing among the families at dismissal; again it is
better if you find parking as no car can be left unattended.
Parents, please be patient with staff when they need to ask you to drive on.
Traffic duty is difficult in itself. We want to establish good relationships
between the school and our neighbors. By following traffic and parking
rules, these good relationships are the result.

AUCTION UPDATES AND NEWS!!!
Welcome to Auction Season!!
The 2015 Auction will be held on March 21, 2015.
It will once again be held at the SOMArts Gallery in South of Market.
This year’s theme will be:
See How Our Garden Grows…
The Donation Committee is just beginning to assemble - but we need help from everyone. Please watch for donation news and the forms in the bulletin or in your child's
folder in the next few weeks. We would love all parents to consider reaching out to
the places they frequent to request donations. This is a team effort and if we all reach
out, we'll have some terrific items! Also – think big!! Don’t just ask for a bottle of
wine…ask for a case! Don’t ask for a single ticket – but for a package of four for the
whole family. This is how we are going to raise the most funds.
What is next?
Volunteer Task Assignment
We have begun slating in committee leads and working on the volunteer position
spreadsheet. If you were a lead last year, or if you have held the same position for a
number of years (e.g., class liaison for art project), then please let us know by emailing [email protected] and referencing “Auction Volunteer”
in the title of the email.
Finally, a bit of clarity.
There are always questions about volunteer hours for the auction. The volunteer
commitment is very different for this auction than it is for the festival (which requires
constant manning of the booths, etc). For this auction, you will sign up for a particular
job or task. This job may take 4 hours or it may take 18 depending on your interest,
availability, etc. Either way – if you complete the task, then you get the credit.
It is that simple. Do the work and you are good to go.
Please let us know if you have questions on this.
Thank you again for your participation in 2014 and looking ahead to 2015. We had an
extremely successful auction last year and we hope you see that it has an impact!
We look forward to another successful year!

Rest, Restore, & Spread
Kindness
This week I am featuring restorative poses that you AND your child
can do at home!
It's important to take time to let yourself and your child rest and restore their body.
A rested body thinks more clearly and promotes positive thinking and actions. One
of our first classes of 2015 was a Restorative Yoga class where kids had the
opportunity to work with a partner in learning restorative poses that help rest and
relax the body.
Read the poses below to learn how to recreate this at home for yourself and your
child!
Namaste,
Ms. Vanessa
3 Restorative Yoga Poses to do at Home
Lower Back Release Pose
How to: Roll the yoga mat about a 1/3
of the way up. This will be dependent
on the height of your child. Have your
child lay on the unrolled part of the
mat with the back of their knees
placed directly over the rolled mat. .
Place an eye pillow over the eyes to
encourage them shut. Use lavender oil
to gently massage the hands, fingers,
and forearms.
Benefits: By having the knees slightly
bent over the roll of the mat, this
encourages the lower back to release
and relax. A sore back can be caused
from many things but one may be from
long periods of sitting down such as in
a school desk or work desk.
Massaging the hands spreads
kindness and encourages empathy.
Heart Opener Pose
How to: Roll the yoga mat about a 1/3
of the way down. This will be
dependent on the height of your child.
Have your child lay on the unrolled
part of the mat with their shoulder
blades directly over the rolled mat with
the edge of the mat lined up with their
underarms. Use lavender oil to gently
massage the head and hair.
Benefits: By having the shoulder
blades laid over the roll of the mat, this
encourages the chest and front of the
shoulders to open. This can help with
improving posture in the upper back.
Legs up the wall Pose
How to: Sit with your right hip against
the wall and knees bent. Roll onto
your back with your bottom touching
the wall. Straighten your legs up the
wall. Relax the arms on your thighs,
belly, or sides.
Benefits: This pose restores tired feet
& legs, improves digestion, stretches
the back of the body, relieves
backaches, and calms anxiety.
Pose of the Month!

How to: Lay on your belly and place
your forearms on the floor with your
elbows aligned under your shoulders
and palms facing down. Bring the
head and chest up for a gentle back
bend. Draw the shoulders down the
back to create space between the
shoulders and the ears. Breath here
for 5 breaths, Repeat 3 times. Kids
can make roaring sounds like a lion,
stick out their tongue, and open their
eyes wide!
Benefits: This stretches the spine,
belly and lungs along with relieving
stress and fatigue.
